Switch Modifiers Question

Lets say I set the 1, 2, and 3 keys as control Switches. To help understand, lets say 1 represents Views routine, 2 represents Flight CTL routine, and 3 represents HOTAS routine.

So, do you have to turn a switch off (hit it again) before you activate another switch? I mean, after pressing 1, will pressing 2 turn 'off' the 1 switch (override it) or will the config now be expecting a 1+ 2 + key/button and give me nothing at all since I hadn't mapped anything like that?

Thanks.

The last SP mission track used to be automatically saved to: C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Temp\DCS Warthog\LastMissionTrack.trk

Has this changed in recent patches? I can't see anything there now, showing hidden files and searching for *.trk only shows my tracks in C:\Users\<user>\Saved Games\DCS Warthog\Tracks.

Any ideas where I can find it?

Ok with regards to your takeoff. your rotation speed depending on load should be between 125 and 150 knots IAS. Make sure your flaps are set to take off (middle position).

Nose wheel steering should be switched off after +50 knots is achieved.

Did you press your take off trim button next to the SAS switches?

I generally ease back on my stick slightly to take the strain off the nose wheel after NWS is switched off.

If your still having problems please post a short track and we will possibly spot something you need to change or work on:)

Hope this helps

You a silent hunter fan?

Yeah, SH4 not 5. you? I dont know how to replay the training mission tracks(ones in the flight school, sorta speak).

Is it the briefing?

Trick question for experienced pilots

If I get a damaged engine due to sam launch, should I turn off the fuel pump to that engine? And when shall I dispense the foamy stuff, before or after I turn off the fuel boost pump to that engine? And would the crossfeed deliver the damaged engine fuel to the undamaged engine store? I know this will cause a wing overload.

When I TMS up long to designate SPI, where can I look to confirm that has happened? I dont really see a change on my TGP or HUD, maybe something on my TAD I am missing?

Thanks!

The lower left of the HUD shows what sensor is SOI

The wedding cake symbol on the TAD indicates the location of the SPI (it will overlap either the current steerpoint, the current TGP location or the currently hooked symbol depending on which Sensor is SOI when you designate SPI)

Hi everyone, I have a question that I cannot find answer to. Two, in fact (while I'm at it) :-)

If I contact airport for Inbound, they reply with heading and some number, which I believe is distance. Is it distance from my current position? And how can I measure how many miles have I flown? Or am I supposed to use some other means to navigate to that point?

Now for the second question that came to my mind just now: I have noticed that after I switch CDU into NAV mode and select DIVERT -> Airport of choice, it will also change the waypoint set on HUD (there are lot of airport waypoints). How can I get the original set of waypoints back on HUD (mission waypoints that is)?

Thanks for answer!

This is gunna sound pretty dumb. But I've been gone away for quite some time so I never saw the release of this. I did buy the BETA, but now i'm not to sure if I should Redownload or just put the patch...on the BETA...I've searched and haven't found an actual answer. So should I just go off and download the latest version or should i just patch it to the most recent? Thanks in Advance!

Redownload. The patches do not work with the beta versions.

How to active the little pilot's head movements that i saw in some videos when you love the aircraft ?

1: You can apply "G's affect pilot's head movement" in the settings menu.

2: If that's not what you referring to, you might be noticing Track IR.

So, that setting only affects the head of the 3D-model pilot that is sitting in the cockpit (wich you see in the outside camera), is that right?

I always thought it affects the 1st person view of the pilot/player so set this setting to off from the first sim-start. :)

another question about the STEAM version (wich i own). Will it be possible to choose another language when other international versions of DCS: A-10C will be released in the future.

In other words - will i be able to set the language to german or russian for example, like it is possible in nearly every game available on STEAM?

Hey guys!

I am at the point where I can operate the aircraft fully and use all weapons systems but not with the efficiency and speed required for combat. I've tried a few missions but I always get shot down because I don't recognize which vehicles have AA guns and I don't have enough Mavericks or bombs to take the whole collection of vehicles out. What are some ways I can better recognize these types of vehicles? Does anyone have any good missions that will help me get better and have more practice before I start the campaign and harder missions? The training missions get redundant after awhile. Thanks!

You shouldn't normally be getting close enough that AA guns are much of an issue. Your cannon outranges all of them (even the Shilka) so if you're engaging targets in an area that might be hot, fire at longer ranges (2 - 1.5 miles) and then break off before you get much closer. You can even take out Tunguskas with your cannon, provided they've run out of missiles.

I think there's a tendency when you're learning to go in close with the gun, especially since most training missions are against targets which can't shoot back (trucks). Not getting shot out of the sky is helpful when learning, but it can also instil unhelpful habits which you then need to break. So, if you've been doing the "up close and personal" method, you might want to spend some time re-learning guns engagement while keeping your distance.

Only if you're sure the area is clear and you won't be shot at should you go in closer than 1 mile (and even that's kind of pushing your luck a bit). The extra accuracy you gain isn't worth the added risk. Line up your target, fire a short burst when you're under 2.0 miles, and then turn away before they can return effective fire.

Once you're comfortably taking out soft targets (like trucks) with the cannon from > 1.5 miles, I'd try doing the same against lightly armored targets. I think the instant action missions have suitable targets for this. BMPs in particular are very dangerous at close ranges, and can withstand a bit more damage than a truck, but are still very killable with your cannon while staying outside of their effective range.

What are some ways I can better recognize these types of vehicles?
It's pretty much just practice and familiarity. Ideally the mission briefings will give you some clues about what you're up against, so you know what to be looking for. You could spend some time with the encyclopedia, and some people have useful threat charts which includes imagery which might help with recognition. You might also want to check out the mission editor - the best way to learn to spot and fight particular threats is to actually do it, and the mission editor lets you set up simple engagements very easily.

Also, some of the campaign missions are pretty tough for a newcomer. Have you tried some of the easier single missions, like Smerch Hunt and that one where you attack the insurgent camp, the name of which completely eludes me at the moment (edit: Hideout). They're much better introductions to 'real' missions than the campaigns, IMO.

In the case of tankbusting, don't bother if you can't go in closer than that. You need a good angle and a burst from 0.7 through to 0.4 to take out a modern MBT. Clean out threats first, and possibly initiate a pre-emptive flare program on the runin.

Thanks for the replies! All of the advice is quite useful!

I haven't even started that mission or the campaign, just the basic Weapons Training or Shooting Gallery missions (I think that it is called that).

Problems with gun reticle:

Hi Guys!

1. I sometimes have problems with disappearing gun reticle at distances lower than approx. 2 miles from designated target. Works well when i am turning in and stabilizing the plane, but when i get in shoot range it simply disappears...

2. In addition to this i yesterday had both engines stopped (2 times :) while i was diving 35° from 12000 ft towards the target (throttle@idle). i am not shure if such a maneuver is not possible with the A-10 because of a loss of fuel flow???

I'm a bit confised...

Thanks for your replys!

For me the dying engines issue sounds like a throttle-lever mapping problem, rather than a technical problem in-game.
