Echo38 Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 You need to make sure that you set up the a-10 to have some Aim9's or they wont do anything. Hmm, so I can't get him to attack me with gun? I was hoping to practice my "gunzo" dogfighting skills without being completely dominated by missiles or by the P-51. I can't beat the P-51 with the A-10, but another A-10 is something I could do--if I could get him to attack me without missiles, that is.
159th_Viper Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Question: how can I make an A.I. A-10 attack my A-10 in the editor? I got it to work with the P-51D, but I don't seem to be able to set an A-10 to any air-to-air tasks. If I set him to use no task or an air-to-ground task, he ignores me and doesn't even try to defend himself. Shoot at him :P Jokes aside, the A.I. have no issue using the gun, provided that they are within valid parameters. I have found that they are not really very aggressive and that you must actually hound them - they will however shoot you given half a chance. Herewith a mission file and tracks illustrating: In the Hog Fight track, I have to deliberately put him on my six - once there he shreds me. In Hog Fight #1 you can see that it's difficult to get the A.I. to fight aggressively. He does however take a pot-shot given half the chance. Echo38 Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 I see. My A-10C versus P-51D single-player mission has the P-51 all over me, and I can't do anything (the P-51D appears to both out-run and out-turn the A-10C, at least below 10,000 feet, and I'm not sure A-10 even has a climb rate advantage--hard to tell when you can't extend away), but the same mission with a second A-10C replacing the P-51 has the enemy A-10 simply doing the "bitch wobble" a la Tom Cruise. ; ) I guess, as you suggested, the A-10 A.I. simply wasn't programmed for dogfighting, which isn't unreasonable given its normal role.

DunMac Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 no exterior lights Hi all, I think I read just about everything to do with exterior nav. lights here in the forum and didn't find an answer to the question of, why no lights at all? The interior lights work just fine but as I said nothing on the outside. I've tried everything I could think of to get them going, remapping keystrokes, etc. For one the anti-collision switch when clicked upon immediately turns itself off as does the EAC switch. I managed to get the EAC to stay on by assigning a keystroke. That didn't work in the case of the anti-c. switch. Any ideas anyone? As always, thanks for any help, it certainly is greatly appreciated. Windows7 Home, Intel i7-:huh:2670QM, nVidia GTX 570M
BlueRidgeDx Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 If the HOTAS (throttle) "pinky" switch is in the center position, it will black out all external lights. It is the Master Exterior Light control switch, and it overrides the switch settings on the exterior lighting panel on the right aft console. Make sure the pinky switch is aft, then the cockpit controls will work. The anti-collision light switch is held in the ON position with a solenoid. Since the pinky switch is overriding the it, it will not stay engaged. This is normal behavior. "They've got us surrounded again - those poor bastards!" - Lt. Col. Creighton Abrams

I've noticed that certain things in certain modes work and don't work. I'll just have to learn to live with it. While I'm here maybe you can help with the SU-25T. It came with the DCS World 1.2.0 download and absolutely nothing works, not even the yellow cross-hair. Any suggestions? Thanks.

It came with the DCS World 1.2.0 download and absolutely nothing works, not even the yellow cross-hair. The World Su-25T does not have a clickable cockpit, and it has simplified systems. AFAIK, it's a port from Flaming Cliffs, and there's no way in any of the current Eagle Dynamics products to get a full-avionics and/or clickable pit version. Edited August 23, 2012 by Echo38
Ironhand Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Hi BlueRidgeDX ...While I'm here maybe you can help with the SU-25T. It came with the DCS World 1.2.0 download and absolutely nothing works, not even the yellow cross-hair. Any suggestions? Thanks. As noted in a post prior to mine, that cross is for a clickable cockpit which the Su-25T doesn't have. Rather than a brand new aircraft for DCS World, it's a "portover" of sorts. The documantation for it is in the DCS World/Mods/Aircraft/Su-25T/Docs folder (or at least I think that's the routing--I'm at work and working from memory). And, for the most part, it works fine but via key commands rather than clicking switches. DunMac Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 (edited) To all those who replied to my post concerning SU-25T I just left the program after looking over the controls in the options menu, which in itself is to large to remember, at any rate I started an instant action mission and started hitting buttons and managed to fire the cannon and some rockets, how I did it, I don't know and I probably never will....LOL. Anyway, thanks for the input. I appreciate it. I must tell you all that I'm a rookie at this. The closest I've come to a flight sim. before DCS was FlightGear and that in no way even comes close to this. I've got a lot to learn. Getting a Hotas Warthog controller is my next step. I get screwed up changing to different modifications on my current stick, lose track of were I am and end up messing up the whole thing and have to quit the mission. SO thanks again for the help. WildBillKelsoe Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Gun usage min and max altitudes IRL?? Help me become better gunner.. Few Q's probably axed before: 1- what is the RL maximum operating altitude for gun runs? 2- what is the RL minimum ( )? 3- relationship between IFFCC 30mm min alt (what is it?) and MRC? 4- 4k/8k/12k gun reticles use IRL. when and why used? I read if an X develops, switch to higher alt, or switch to 4000 ft WCGS. I would very much appreciate official gun employment documentation, excerpts, etc... BlueRidgeDx Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 1) None. Maximum effective slant range and dive angle would determine a "max altitude", but there is no use for such a number. Use slant range instead. 2) None. The minimum altitude is driven by the pilot's Low Altitude Stepdown category. It could be anywhere from 500 to 100 feet. 3) MIN ALT is whatever you set it to be given the tactical considerations of the situation. Is it night time? Are you in mountainous terrain? What threats will you encounter? Are there SPINS that stipulate an administrative minimum altitude? MRC will be clamped to the top of the reticle when you're more than 5 seconds from passing the MIN ALT. It will move downward next to the reticle's 3 o'clock hash mark when you are at MIN ALT, and will clamp to the bottom of the reticle when 5 seconds beyond MIN ALT. 4) 4/8/12 gun cross is used when you do not have accurate elevation data and CCIP is not available. Instead, you have to manually elevate the gun for slant range, while IFFCC corrects for windage. Without CCIP you do not have computed slant rage info, so you have to use a technique called mil-sizing to estimate range. "They've got us surrounded again - those poor bastards!" - Lt. Col. Echo38 Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 I've done a few searches and found a few threads with somewhat related discussion, but nothing comprehensive or specific. So: what exactly are my options for hosting a dedicated server at present? It's looking like I'd need to own a second copy of the sim ... is this correct?
Pyroflash Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 In general, yes, you would have to buy a second copy of the game, however there is work being done on developing a dedicated server, so you shouldn't have to hold your breath for too much longer. If you aim for the sky, you will never hit the ground.

Which ded servers are there compatible with A-10C/P-51/BS2.0?? Thanks in advance. I don't know exactly what you'll need; but presumably its video card needs to support at least enough of DirectX to allow the game to create its render window and render the UI. You can disable the rendering of the actual 3D environment, so on-board graphics are fine. I just don't know how 'low' you can get away with. For what it's worth, my dedicated server appears to be using this MSI motherboard which has Intel HD graphics, and 'dxdiag' reports that it has 3D and 2D acceleration. I certainly wouldn't want to try to play the game on it, but it works perfectly for a dedicated server. I'm running Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 as the operating system, and the game's set to run in 1024x768 windowed mode (with the render3d option disabled). The CPU is an i7 @ 3.4 GHz. The game doesn't take much advantage of multiple cores, so the faster the CPU the better off you'll be. To be safe, I'd probably check with the provider if the system's onboard graphics supports DirectX accelerated 3D - if it does, you should be absolutely fine, as the calls to create the window and render the UI will work, and as before, the actual graphics performance is pretty much irrelevant. Or alternatively, just ask them what motherboard they use and look up the chipset and capabilities online. Before I committed to renting this server, I did check if adding a dedicated video card was an option (and it was), so I had a fallback plan in case the onboard wasn't sufficient. So, you might want to consider asking that as well. 1
WildBillKelsoe Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 Traffic patterns for DCS? A-10C sink rate formula or rule? Hello, Many times now, I get orbit for spacing. I orbit. But I want to do it right, you know what I mean? like speed to orbit, pattern to orbit, and altitude to orbit. What I know already, is that final is 2000 feet to start descending. The other thing is, I want to do a nose up landing, using sink rate and flaps, with proper maintenance speed. Is there a formula for sink rate? to use with A-10? BlueRidgeDx Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 (edited) Are you talking about a non-tactical situation where you are holding prior to an approach? If so, flying a racetrack pattern with 1 minute legs, right turns at 30 degrees of bank, at 180 knots is a standard holding pattern. As far as the descent goes, generally speaking, you would aim to be 5 miles from the threshold at about 1,500ft - the 3:1 rule tells you that it takes 3 miles to descend 1,000ft at a 3 degree glideslope (ADD: another technique is to plan 300ft of altitude loss per nautical mile flown. Hat tip: Loz). At jet approach speeds, you're looking for 700-800fpm on the VSI with a 3 degree glideslope. A proper approach requires flying the right speed, which is 130 knots plus 2 knots for every 1,000lb over 30,000lb gross weight. Over the threshold, reduce thrust and flare to reduce rate of descent; landing speed is 10 knots slower than the calculated approach speed. The numbers above are for the normal landing configuration - gear down, flaps 20, speedbrakes 40%, and both engines operating.
