Callsign.Vega Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 DCS: A-10C looks great. With that said, seeing as both the KA-50 and A-10C are for all intents and purposes ground attack only, will we ever see a DCS fighter study sim? Ground attack is fun for a while but multiplayer and competition is very limited as you pretty much just kill computer ground targets. A 4.5 generation fighter study sim would be awesome, no matter the airframe. I'd stay away from 5th generation fighters like the F-22 and F-35 as they are more or less BVR fights only and you would have virtually no data to work with. GPU: RTX 4090 - 3,000 MHz core / 12,000 MHz VRAM. CPU: 7950X3d - 5.2 GHz X3d, 5.8 GHz secondary / MB: ASUS Crosshair X670E Gene / RAM: G.Skill 48GB 6400 MHz SSD: Intel Optane P5800X - 800GB VR: Pimax Crystal CONTROLS: VPC MongoosT-50CM3 Base / VPC Constellation ALPHA Prime Grip / VPC MongoosT-50CM3 Throttle / TM Pendular Rudders
Hunt3r.j2 Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Even getting the data on a gen 4.5 fighter could be rather... iffy.
Speed Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 (edited) DCS: A-10C looks great. With that said, seeing as both the KA-50 and A-10C are for all intents and purposes ground attack only, will we ever see a DCS fighter study sim? It does no use asking, ED will reveal what the next module will be when they are ready and actually know themselves. Ground attack is fun for a while but multiplayer and competition is very limited as you pretty much just kill computer ground targets. I'm sure ED is quite aware of the need to simulate something that can do some serious air to air, but understand that they also must fill military contracts as well. If they think or get a contract for an aircraft than can do A2A, then we get it too. If they don't line up a military contract, well, I don't know what happens. I've been assured that there will be another module after A-10C, but you never know for sure... I certainly wish ED the best of luck, but I've seen far too many flight sims fail to see the light of day due to financial issues related to our small niche market. If I had to take a guess.... I would guess that F-16C or AH-64A would be the next module. As far as contracts go, I would imagine that the huge numbers of F-16Cs out there operated by so many different nations would make finding a military contract for an F-16C module pretty easy. That's why they should let me be the Igla guy.. or even better.. the Zsu-23 guy. :) Everything is there.. it's one day for a model, one day of coding and two days of testing. :music_whistling: 1 Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.
element1108 Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Don't forget the series is very young and they've so far they have one Russian attack helicopter and an American fixed wing on the way. With only two modules they've already given us a large range although it may not seem like it because they're both ground attack vehicles. I know as much as the next guy (excluding a few), but I can't imagine they'd neglect the fighter department completely.
wildone_106 Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Be patient & keep supporting them so they can continue making awesome sims, otherwise you'll be playing Tom Clancy's 'H.A.W.X. 3!'...:(

nscode Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Yeah, my friend asked me the other day if I had any ideas for a project she needs to do for a class.. it has to have some sensors and some actuators. She didn't like my idea that much :D Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.

They should let us control the ground forces. Having an actual HUMAN behind control of the ground troops, controlling them RTS style would make for far more interesting and exciting scenarios, with ground forces that actually react to being fired upon. Speed Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 I would think that the enemy ground forces commander would be doing his job best when he controlled the ground forces in the most realistic manner possible... not just him vs the aircraft. rweaves6 Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 I understand the appeal of an a/a sim, I know I get the desire to do a little dogfighting whenever I come across topgun on tv. But for me personally I like the emphasis on the ground and pound. Realistically speaking isn’t that essentially what air combat is in the 21st century? I mean how many a/a engagements have taken place in the last 30 years post-Vietnam? Just my opinion, I know it probably isn’t shared among very many. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

All the more reason for a multi-role aircraft. Do a little a2a, go drop some bombs for a friendly AFAC, then maybe do some a2a on the way out.
