I would describe the game as: Pilot Wings 2012. :)

Eh, while there are some similarities with Pilot Wings, I'd still say this is a pretty full sim. It's missing some key things like ATC, a flight planner, and AI traffic, but the flight and avionics models are full sim. For example, I spent an hour last night navigating via VOR beacons, correcting for the 20 knot winds, and then doing an ILS landing.

I was excited at first but the more I found out the less excited I got. Now I have no interset in it whatsoever! You will have to pay for every addon? No SDK? Sorry but I'm out! Looks like FSX and FS9 will be on my computer for a while longer.

I also run the "Sim" about 30min - and than I realised I have no "neck" that I can assign in the controller options.

Sure! .. the visuals where nice! - but couldn't move my view as usual.

- never started It since than again.

WTH is MS thinking? They really struck out and my 15 year old son (BIG GAMER) thought is was "uber lame".

they are thinking xbox :D

.....Tried MS Flight today......... lots of dots here....... I realy understand why the word "simulator" was removed....

....It´s already in the trash. There is some (a lot of) work needed (if it´s possible) before I try that again.

Why do they release a product like that? Ruin their (for me) fine flightsim reputation.

For me a total disappointment.

Launhing DCS A-10!

I remember trying to fly under a bridge in the Stearman, crashed, and I received a "Crashtastic" achievement or something along those line.. LOL.

The Xboxers will probably find this boring without anything to shoot, and the simmers will find it boring soon enough without the compexity and depth we enjoyed in the Flight SIM franchise.

This title feels like a swing and a miss, and time will tell if it quickly and quietly fades away into the xbox bargain bin.

Well Flight by itself is a total disappointment. The only way they can redeem themselves is to take the improved FSX engine and relaunch a new flightsim with it. Then again it's not going to happen because it's the next logical thing to do.

Speed is life !!!

What about Flight and the team interested or excited you?

I was initially skeptical about joining this team, having never been a flight simulator fan. But when the team said, “No, no, no: This is about taking the magic of flight and trying to deliver it to a whole new group of people,” that got me excited.

i wonder what he's so excited about. the prospect of doing great violence to a series loved by a great number of sim players, or the prospect of reaching a larger "casual audience" and thus increasing the flow of revenue.

It's an idiotic statement to the core. Why would he even go in record saying he doesn't like flight simulators...the "bringing the magic of flight to a whole new player base" really doesn't say much either. It's funny they have to basically rub it in the potential buyers face that this is not a flight simulator. Like flight simulators are lumps of $h** or something.

probably because realistic options=1600 microsoft points. pay up.

It's not the fall that gets you. It's the Godawful sudden stop at the end.

All I'll say is I thought the flight model in ArmA II was arcadish....

You haven't attempted a crosswind, dirtstrip landing, have you?

Sorry to be defending Flight, but even as a hardcore sim junky I'm having a lot of fun with it. I wouldn't be logging the hours into it that I am were it just some arcade, Pilot Wings clone. The game is missing stuff to be sure, but there is a very good foundation to build off of with what is there. Flew a two hour IFR cargo flight from Kauai to Maui last night, navigating via VOR/DME. It was fun :P.

Posted

i have, all of the dirt strip landing challenges in fact and i can say without a doubt it's still an arcade piece of garbage.

wind is only one ingredient of a proper simulation. and the fact that you flew a cargo flight suggest you already payed for the dlc planes. therefore you can obviously no longer be impartial as you have to justify your purchase.

objectivity>self interest. the game is rubbish. end of story.

So you nailed a crosswind, dirt strip landing in the Stearman on your first try without bouncing? You sure you turned off all the flight model assists? It's entirely possible that you're just a way better sim pilot than I am, but having flown sims for about a decade now, it certainly doesn't "feel" like an arcade game to me. I haven't flown a real plane so I can't compare there, but compared to the flight model in IL-2 or A-10C? Feels comparable to me.

And I bought the cargo plane because I was enjoying the game, not the other way around.

I got it - what the heck it's free.

The FM, like stock FS, is still a joke. Not quite arcade quality but barely above it. Very, very easy to fly land and certainly not serious sim territory. I got bored with it after 15 minutes.

And P-51 on external view only? Surely they jest.

I know a lot of people were dissapointed because when they heard about Flight they were expecting the next iteration of MSFS. Flight was never going to be that nor will it ever be. Maybe some day they will develop MSFS again.

As far as a sim goes it's pretty light weight. We will never see any PMDG aircraft in there.

It does have a few good things going for it.

1) It's Free

2) My girlfriends 8 year old son can jump in and fly with me online on easy setting and I can fly with all the assists off.

3) Since its free I didn't have to spend fifty bucks to find out he doesn't like flight sims (he does like it BTW)

4) It runs really smooth at fairly high settings on older hardware, I know it runs better than FSX on similar hardware.

My 2 cents: I'm happy someone younger can enjoy this hobby as much as I do. If you guys haven't noticed there are not a lot of younger people who play flight sims anymore. Average age is 30+...

Something inexpensive to get their feet wet and have fun. Face it we hare spoiled by this new generation of sims high fidelity. Looking back on all the older ones I used to play when I first started siming in the 90's were pretty weak compared to now. So Flight is actually pretty good for a starter sim with a few things thrown in for vets... Just not enough to keep our interest.

It's pretty sad to log in to DCS multiplayer and see so few servers and all of them locked except for 2(somewhat a seperate issue I know) but in the old days there were tons of servers in games like Flanker, F4 and IL-2 etc.

Anything that brings new blood in and gives them a shove ever so slightly towards more advaced sims like DCS is alright in my book.

again with that stupid argument. people either like flght sims or they don't. making a dumbed down version of it isn't going to populate the dcs servers.
