bumfire Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 (edited) I am about to pull the trigger on some pedals, i dont have any and I will need a set for when the thrustmaster warthog stick is released. I found these; http://shop.strato.de/epages/219707.sf/en_GB/?ViewObjectID=2831102 simped vario Would they be any good ? as I dont have a clue about whats good and whats not in the world of pedals. Any help would be appreaciated. EDIT: These are the other pedals they sell; http://shop.strato.de/epages/219707.sf/en_GB/?ViewObjectID=2587934 But I am not sure if some are just brakes, rather than pedals ? Would the more expensive ones be better than the ones I linked to above ? or would I be better off choosing another make of pedals ? Edited September 10, 2010 by bumfire
159th_Viper Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 Aye M8 - no idea re veracity of Simpeds. I do however have a set of CH pedals which work quite well and will come in at £30 cheaper: http://www.zavvi.com/games/platforms/pc/ch-pro-pedals/10048165.html?utm_source=googleprod&utm_medium=gp&utm_campaign=gp_games Keep in mind that the CH pedals are a wee bitty closer together than the Simpeds - personal preference as to what you'd prefer at the end of the day :) 1 Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? bumfire Posted September 10, 2010 Author Posted September 10, 2010 Whats the quality like on them CH pedals ? They durable enough ? I ask this because I dont have fairy feet and thats one of the things that stopped me from getting pedals in the past. Are they likely to last, even with the odd heavy footedness ? nothing that would be classed as abuse mind you. Cheers
159th_Viper Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 Had mine now for over a year and no noticeable wear and tear/spiking/ at all. At default they require a light touch only. As with all things these days it's a luck of the draw as to how long it will last - I cannot however foresee any issues at all insofar as durability/sturdiness is concerned. I've had the odd occasion where MANPAD-induced rage had me attempting to put either one or both (depending on severity of hammering taken) feet firmly through the plasterboard of the study with no apparent ill-effects to the pedals themselves. Could foresee issues if you're walking around with flippers though (size 13's) :D Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? Click me to commence your Journey of Pillage and Plunder! bumfire Posted September 10, 2010 Author Posted September 10, 2010 I have been googling the pedals and reading up about them, everywhere seems to give them good reviews, which makes me feel happy about buying them. Its good to hear that they are durable enough, manpad rage is what I would be afraid of, but I spose it just takes getting used to and also having to force yourself to remember, atleast to start with, that your feet are hooked upto pedals instead of just the floor. Basically, keep the crazy death feet thumping to a minimum. As far as the flippers, not exactly size 13, but subract 2 1/2 and you get the idea. Hopefully that wont be too big for the things ? I have seen alot of people post saying that they have the ch pedals, although to me that in itself told me nothing regarding quality etc, but I think I will settle on them after reading up about them. Cheers Viper ;) I gotta spread some love around before I can hook you up, but I will get to you within 24 hours ;) Thanks for the help.
Callsign.Vega Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 These pedals are considered to be among the best for the price: http://shop.strato.de/epages/219707.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/219707/Products/%22SP%2004%2011%20007%22 I have the USB version which you will need to work with the Hotas Warthog. Good spacing, hall sensors, durable design (German made). The CH pedal's are much too close to each other for my taste. 1 GPU: RTX 4090 - 3,000 MHz core / 12,000 MHz VRAM. I bought the pots with CH, rewired the whole thing to work with TOE brake. But after a year or so they spiked again so i decide t shelve them, they are also way to close to each others which was awesomely uncomfortable to me. (the good side of it was the fack that i had to get out of front of PC :D). I bought a RCS from thrustmaster from e-bay (Not the elite) bought hall sensors from cubby and they are perfect (3 years i have them now). No wonder they where used by the US Navy for training. By the way the simped are extremely similar to the Thrustmaster RCS. The problem now is the fact warthog dont have port(1m80 + - 6 feets tall). So i ll have to buy an gameport-> USB device if i ever acquire it. The video was of a 12 year old, youtube video, and it even looked uncomfortable for him, so I dont know how its gunna be like for me at 6ft 6 with size 10 1/2 feet. I have only read good reviews about Ch, but I would feel happier had the pedals been slightly further spaced, but until I actually see a set I wont know. I am gunna travel down to Dundee at the weekend and will hopefully get to see a pair of CH pedals in the flesh, once I see them I will get a better idea of if they will be too small for me. If they are too small it means I will be back at square one. On a lighter note Succellus, I have a spare gameport to usb connection if you need it ? Anyway, I will know by Sunday if CH pedals are ok for me. Cheers everyone for helping me find a set of pedals, it is much appreaciated ;) 1
CyBerkut Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 Bumfire, you might want to check into these: http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/compedals.html I don't know if they are on sale yet, (and if not, I don't know how soon they will be). They look promising. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] There's no place like 127.0.0.1
Succellus Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 Those new pedals saitek are promising look promising indeed :D. If i get to sell my gear, so i can acquire the warthog its between them and SIMPED. I would prefer simped, but there are some saitek resseller here in Brasil so they may come cheaper. So I ll wait. Anyway is i decide to sell my RCS i will do so with my heart bleeding. HaF 922, Asus rampage extreme 3 gene, I7 950 with Noctua D14, MSI gtx 460 hawk, G skill 1600 8gb, 1.5 giga samsung HD. That's what i intend to do (its hall sensor modded, so I too would hate to give it up). 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

I would suggest NOT buying the cougar version as you have to use TM cougar to interface it. It is not compatible with a standard gameport. I purchased their usb version and its awesome. nough said. They sell pedals with and without brakes and they sell a brakes addon (which is the cheapest of their products). The F-16 usb unit with brakes runs 280euros (about $400 US.) To say the true i don t even expect to be able to acquire Warthog anytime soon. Direct import will end end near 1000,00 USD. (2000,00 BRL) I don t think any one will bring it here. I dont think i know a person that will bring this 6 kilo gear, above 500 USD limit import....trouble with the custom if caught and taxe to pay that will bring it to 800,00 USD (1600,00 BRL). Unless maybe we got a certain number o person to joint up to buy it "massively." Thinking of it i may have a ace in my sleever but i don t count of it, it may require a dozen interested persons for it to be brought to work. bumfire Posted September 13, 2010 Author Posted September 13, 2010 I tried out a set of Ch pedals at the weekend, and although I could use them no problem, if I had to use them for any length of time they would become too uncomfortable due to them being close together :( I guess I have to think again. Although saying that, I do like the look of saiteks new pedals that someone linked to in this thread. Not sure if they are available yet ? but I like the look of them and they will hopefully come in cheaper than 280 euros, as I really cannot justify spending 280 euros on something that my feet kisses. How is it, that nothing is ever cut and dry, anything for an easy life.
Succellus Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 I warned you, no saitek new peds ain t ready yet. But i guess you can wait a month or 2 too see. If i remember they are set to be released this year. As for 280,00 Eur. Its all about how addicted you are. bumfire Posted September 14, 2010 Author Posted September 14, 2010 Oh, I could easily spend 280 euros on pedals no problem, but I am upgrading my pc and also buying the warthog stick, so all that is gunna rape me financially. Plus one of the reasons I wouldnt like to spend 280 euros on pedals is because I am one clumsy mofo, and I dont mind spending say 150 on something that I will probably break, but 280 is pushing it, especially when it comes to my feet.
Loz Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 (edited) .... Once the RCS has been "Hall Sensored" it must be the sturdiest and most reliable set of pedals out there. In the mean time I will just have to use the Cougar for that. Bit of a waste though as I'm sure they are worth something on EBay. Can't really justify keeping it even though the Stick could be useful to use as a back up for the Warthog Stick. :pilotfly: PS. If anyone comes across a reliable solution to the RCS / USB conversion, then please let us know. PPS. Just had an email back from CubPilot and he is considering bringing out some form of conversion, DB15 to USB, for the RCS. CrashEd Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Can any of the Simped-F16/USB users out there comment on whether it has dual toe breaks? I know that my Simped F16 gameport pedals (for the Cougar) only had one toe break (bizarrely) , so it was impossible to have independent toe breaking. May have to sell mine and upgrade to the USB version soon.
Deadman Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 It depends on what your flying if i recall correctly in lock on no independent toe breaking but in MSFS. You could program them because the sim was set up for it. https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.

CrashEd Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Yes they have dual toe breaks but it isnt differential. They are either full on or full off. Ahhrgh, that's a shame and almost a deal breaker. Think I'll stick with my Saiteks for now. Thanks for the info Sweinhart.
sweinhart3 Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 Ahhrgh, that's a shame and almost a deal breaker. Think I'll stick with my Saiteks for now. Thanks for the info Sweinhart. I have to retract my previous statement. The simped pedals do have independant differential breaking. They are force sensors rather than pots. It may just be me but Im having a wierd problem that I didnt have with CH pedals and that is a calibration issue with Windows where it detects the neutral position and makes it the center of the axis instead of one of the extremes on the axis when brake is not engaged. I found a way around it during calibration by using garage tools to physically center the brakes when it asks you to center them. Im not sure there is a way around that since they dont provide specific 64bit drivers for them and I use a 64bit OS. I think the 32bit drivers they provide may have 3rd party calibration tools for it. But at least I got them working. Maybe I buy your RCS (?$). Since T.A.R.G.E.T have ability to integrate T.1600M with Warthog, simple buy one T.1600M (~35U$ in Ebay), remove your USB circuit and use to rewire RCS to USB. :smilewink: Sokol1_Br
JG27_Arklight Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 I have had my CH pedals for over 5 years now and have never had an issue with them. Same with my CH Fighterstick and CH Pro Throttle. CH also has a great forum for users and excellent customer service. I will never buy another Saitek product again. I, personally, have never had anything but problems with them.
