LukeSky Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 If I'm buying A-10c beta, I'll get the beta 3, but what about de nevada map? Will I have to purchase it? Or, I'll have it like others who buyed the first beta? Please someone, let me know asap, because I spent the last 3 days staring at the "add in cart" button wondering if I should buy it now or if I should wait the boxed version. nomdeplume Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 If I'm buying A-10c beta, I'll get the beta 3, but what about de nevada map? Will I have to purchase it? Or, I'll have it like others who buyed the first beta? Firstly, you're not "buying" the beta, you're pre-ordering the digital download version of the final release. You also get access to the 'open beta' releases in the interim, but that's not actually what you're buying. None of us are privy to ED's future plans, but I would guess there's three possibilities for the Nevada map: 1. it'll be released as a free add-on in a future update for anyone who's bought the retail game. 2. it'll be released as a paid add-on/expansion pack at some point in the future. 3. it'll be completed in time and included as part of the release version of the game. Just to be clear, nobody using beta 3 really has the Nevada map, since it was removed. You can kind of hack it in or stick with older betas if you really want to fly on it, but it was removed because it's incomplete and not yet ready, so I wouldn't base any kind of purchasing decision on it. What you should be asking yourself is: do you want to pre-order the digital download version of the game, at the price that's been asked? As an added incentive, if you do pre-order it you'll also get a sneak peak by way of the betas, but keep in mind that being betas, you will encounter crashes and incomplete features and so on. If you're planning to buy the game at some point, and you're happy with the digital version instead of a boxed version, then pre-ordering it probably makes sense, even if you decide not to try the betas.
LukeSky Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Thanks NomDePlume. But, I asked that question because I read somewhere in this forum that people who pre-ordered the full version will have the nevada map for free, the same map that they will sell as an add-on later for people who will buy the boxed version. This is why I'm asking if I'll have the nevada map too if I'm pre-ordering the full version, which give me the opportunity to download (from now) the beta 3 version only (older beta are no more available). If it's too late for this, I'll wait the boxed version. Est-ce que tu parles français, with this kind of nickname :) Thanks again. nomdeplume Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 (edited) But, I asked that question because I read somewhere in this forum that people who pre-ordered the full version will have the nevada map for free Ah, that somewhere probably being here and here. They don't say it's limited to people who pre-order before a certain date, and I don't see why they would discriminate on such a basis: a pre-order is a pre-order. So my interpretation is that the offer is valid for all pre-orders, up to the point at which they stop accepting pre-orders. Obviously only ED staffers can answer definitively; and if someone in a position to do so is reading this, can I suggest updating the website to mention it. Currently it says: Pre-purchase of "DCS: A-10C Warthog" also provides access to Beta versions of the game. Adding "and the Nevada theatre which is anticipated to be released sometime in 2011" or similar would provide an extra incentive to pre-order, as well as making it official that people who pre-order will get the add-on theatre for free. Edit: also it might be worthwhile updating the FAQ, which still says DCS: A-10C introduces a new map covering the area around Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, USA. This is why I'm asking if I'll have the nevada map too if I'm pre-ordering the full version, which give me the opportunity to download (from now) the beta 3 version only (older beta are no more available). The older betas can still be found ... but whichever version of the betas you happen to have downloaded isn't going to make any difference as to whether you eventually get the Nevada theatre as a bonus for pre-ordering. Anyway, the game is great, and I can barely comprehend how you've managed to pre-order it yet just to try the betas. You must have tremendous willpower. :D Est-ce que tu parles français, with this kind of nickname :)Nope, I'm embarrassingly uni-lingual; but the English language borrows liberally from other languages. :) Edited December 22, 2010 by nomdeplume
LukeSky Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 Well, as I just spent 200$ on the track ir you can understand that this is not because I have a strong willpower to wait for the boxed version. But, I'm Still staring at the add in cart button. I always prefer to have a boxed version of a software, but, if I can know that buying it now will save me some $ (for not having to pay an extra to have the nevada map) I would buy it now. Damn, I liked Falcon, Freefalcon, and blackshark, so, can you imagine how much I want that game. Maybe you're right, I have a strong willpower. EtherealN Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 (edited) As has been said: pre-orders will get you the Nevada map. You might not get it at release, but you will get it. Lukesky, note that the initial release will be the digital download. I do not know the release schedule for "boxed" versions of the simulator. Also note that (afaik) there will be no difference between the digital download and the disc release, just like was the case with DCS:BS and FC2. If you purchase digital download and want an archived installer on a disk, you are free to burn the installer to a DVD or copy it to a thumbdrive at which point it would work identically to the boxed version. (The reason why FC2 and DCS:BS have not used "disc-checks" on the boxed versions is to get a homogenous release as well as the fact that a "proper" disc-check would require drivers to work - and we all know how popular driver-based copy protection is. :P ) nomdeplume, thanks, I'll try to look into the language on the FAQ as soon as I get done with opening presents and such. :) Edited December 24, 2010 by EtherealN 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
coolts Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 All the arguments about "boxed software" are becoming a bit anachronistic in these days of steam and cloud computing, etc. I know where they are coming from as I’ve been tempted to burn my copies of BS and A-10c onto disk but then i always stop myself and say, "i have RAID1, i have backups, i can re-download" . Optical media is dying in the same way as tapes did. In five years DVD's & Blue Ray will be on the way out as we will all have streaming set top boxes. In this light, holding out for a "boxed copy" puts you right up there with the flat earthers and those who refuse DRM. The world is changing and you can’t stop it. It’s your choice and potentially your loss. Join usssssssss…………… 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] i7 9700k | 32gb DDR4 | Geforce 2080ti | TrackIR 5 | Rift S | HOTAS WARTHOG | CH PRO Pedals
LukeSky Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 Burning the installer on a disc is not the problem for me, this is only because I like to have the boxes of my games. I know, I'm weird, but... Thanks EtherealN, you just put an end at my week long staring at the "add in cart" button. I'll hit it today. :) Merry Christmas dude And Happy Holidays! EtherealN Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 Thankyou luke, and I do know what you mean. I still have my original Falcon 3 box, and there's just some magical quality to having that box and that horde of floppys. :P But after some time (and most specifically, after moving house and losing LOMAC discs in the chaos that ensues and ending up with no less than 3 LOMAC purchases to rectify that) I've ended up personally preferring the digital deliveries like Steam and suchlike. But even then - there's still magic in the box, and I understand it. :) One consolation though, for digital download purchases compared to boxes, is that if you want to ensure that as much as possible of your money goes to ED, digital download is the way to go. There's obviously still costs related to the system and server maintenance, but compared to the costs of printing, contracts, legal stuff for distribution, tariffs and so on ad infinitum... In my country, the biggest "taker" on a sold box game is the government (import tariffs, sales tax, MVA/VAT etc). Store second, publisher third, and then developer and distributor roughly tied at fourth... With digital download, as close to everything as is possible goes directly to the people who made it happen. :) Merry Christmas. :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
Rusty_M Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 At long last I have pre-purchased DCS A-10! Yay! Now as soon as I get a few deliveries, and figure out what I'm doing, then i'll be able to fly the beast. Rusty is happy! The world is going mad. Me? I'm doing fine! http://www.twitch.tv/rusty_the_robot https://www.youtube.com/user/RustyRobotGaming
joey45 Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 I think ED should sell the box [minus game disc] for a few quid so we can put our discs that we burned the game on inside them... an other items like manuls and maps to keep safe and clean. Secial edition box art type thingy. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. LukeSky Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 @Rusty Start reading (learning) the manual, this is not falcon, there's a lot of thing to read. It took me about 15min. Only to find out why the anti-collision lights switch didn't stay at on :( So while you are waiting your new setup, read, read, and, well, read ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Windows 7 64bit, Core I7 950, Nvidia GTX 260, 6 gig RAM, TIR 5, Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Pedals, Logitech attack3 :(
