sobek Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Geizhals (an austrian price tracking site) finally started listing the Hotas Warthog, starting from 323,28€. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
Steel Jaw Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Can someone please confirm weather the thrustmaster warthog joystick has a twist axis that can be used for rudders? If you can afford this HOTAS you ought to be able afford some rudders...? Bwaze Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 It looks like Warthog won't be available in most of the shops on 20. - 28. October in Europe: http://geizhals.at/eu/a577830.html http://www.idealo.de/preisvergleich/OffersOfProduct/2002516_-hotas-warthog-thrustmaster.html Amazon.uk will have it on October 29. for 340 pounds, 415 EUR ($575) with shipment. Simware will have it on October 20. for 399 EUR + shipment. There is one shop that's advertising it will be available in a week, three others state it will be available on 17. November. Others don't have the date yet. I think I'll wait a bit, try the Target software on Cougar, and if I can make a workable profile I'll wait for prices to drop a bit, and also for the first user reviews.

No way i'm going to buy that thing at full MSRP  Over here in the UK Amazon are still selling the G940 at £250 - £400 and the Saitek X65F at £320 - £600 so all things considered, £340 is pretty OK'ish. Feuerfalke Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 When the Cougar was released, the initial price in Europe was about 350 Euros. Prices only varied a little over the next years, until the "light" version with the plastic buttons was released. So I doubt the HOTAS Warthog will become much cheaper so quickly. At least not before Christmas. Bwaze Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 What are then all those lower prices at 330 - 350 EUR? I guess since you cannot preorder in these shops and prices can change any time we will see more realistic prices only after Warthog becomes available. I just hope it will not stay at factory recommended price. Or even increase, as we have seen with graphic cards. ATI 5850 and 5870 are still more expensive than they were one year ago! I hope Thrustmaster will not adopt this sales tactics - create apparent shortage, so the items are not in stock at many shops at the same time. That way shops have no wish to compete and lower prices.
W0t4N Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 I doubt prices will fall before end of Christmas season or even end of January sales. If the decision is to pay full MSRP or -10% two or three months later.. my decision is clear: preorder!! /W

sobek Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Joysticks aren't in the "price-drops-over-time"-category unlike graphic cards or cars which "age" much much much faster. Oh contraire, the g940 dropped from 300€ MSRP to 250 relatively quickly, as did the saitek x65 from 400€ to 300. I too doubt that that will happen with the TMHW, though. There are not enough retailers, at least in Austria, to bring the prices down. There's shops in germany that list it at around 330€ though. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
Feuerfalke Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 (edited) I'm not so sure your conclusion will work out, either. Both joysticks dropped in price, because few people wanted to risk such a price for something they couldn't estimate: The G940 had very poor drivers for a long time and the ForceFeedback is that widely wanted. The X65F is force-sensing (Hello, Luke, sense my force?). As posted above, the Cougar did not fall in price nearly that quickly and neither did the X52 and X52pro. Edit: These German shops don't have the best reputation. However, I'll probably contact them or check their AGBs for price-changes on preorder-items. Edit2: AGB German shop MIX: Für die Lieferung gelten die Listenpreise zum Zeitpunkt der Auftragserteilung oder Auftragsbestätigung. The price is the current price when ordering or when confirming the order by the company. Whatever that means. Yskonyn Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 (edited) Be aware guys, Feuerfalke makes a good point here. Don't get too obsessed about getting the best price. Expecially on the internet, with these prices/products, there are a lot of scams and considering the investment you owe it to yourself to make an informed purchase. I would only buy from a store I am comfortable with and I know they're legit. I rather pay a few 10s of euro's more for that. There are countless of stories out there from people who got scammed cause they wanted a cheap price. Here, by law, you're entitled to get your money back, however many shops do the same thing you described; giving you vouchers instead of money. It's a big, big hassle (discussion up to court threats) to get your money back and so most people just accept the vouchers. I'm pretty sure those drops were because of more factors than the usual ones. They competed with each other aswell as the Warthog which many back then thought was due soon. Not to mention that they had/still have certain flaws (really bad software and x-, y-, z-bleed respectively) that scared people off. :smartass: The Warthog on the other hand is in a league of it's own and kind of has its own customer base aswell as sharing the customer base with the aforementioned joysticks. :book: Edit: Ah, Feurefalke beat me to it Edited October 13, 2010 by roob My DCS stream [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Past broadcasts, Highlights Currently too much to do...
