I've been considering taking the PDF to Kinko's and have them print it for me into a hard cover 'book' format but of my concerns is how 'accurate' the actual manual is, I mean.. I don't want to send it to print to later find out it contains many errors, so hopefully someone here will know how 'final' (not beta) this manual is. What do you guys think?

do what i am going to do and also suggested back to my squadmates.

Get yourself a Kindle 2 for a few bucks more and keep all your PDF check lists, Manuals and Approach plates on it for DCS and Lomac. It will be a heckofa bit easier to use the search function to point you where you need to go in the manual than flipping through pages.

It's $150...not a great deal IMHO. Still prefer a hardcopy...call me old school.

DCS BS and A-10C were a big part of the reason I bought an iPad. I have all of my manuals and charts on it and it's great to have all that while I travel and am unable to sim. By the time you print a couple of 600+ page manuals at Kinkos (or at home) you're talking some pretty big bucks. Kindle (or Nook) are less expensive options if color is not that important to you, but some kind of electronic reader has become for me an essential "flight sim accessory".

Kindle is to small. I use a second PC (portable) on the side with all documentation. 17" internal display and one 19" connected on the side makes it a huge platform for reading and displaying documents, checklists, key and joystick settings while flying.

Hmm.. you bring an excelent point. in fact, this could be the perfect excuse for me to get an iPad... I also sim a lot in FSX and having a way to look at approach plates would be nice... I'm all in for 'color'! so, Kindle is not an option.

Does anyone here have an iPad and comment on how convenient it is for PDF reading? (Apple has a history of not supporting certain Adobe products, such as Flash) so.. I want to make it fully supports PDF reading on an iPad.

Thanks,

I've got an iphone works fine with quickbooks app installed. Small on my phone though but it gets me through the startup. My problem is all these terms soi/china hat ect ect im used to hit button, lock target, fire weapon from lockon very tough sim for me to learn lol.

goodreader is the app you want to use for reading pdf on apple i-units.

i like the kindle idea because its the same price as printing the two dcs manuals in hardcopy.. a tad more but I also am a big reader so i like the smaller size and battery life.

a benefit of ipad would be the backlit display - if you sim inthe dark then the kindle might not cut the butter for ye.

My pdf reader of choice is a netbook. But it's still too small and a hardcopy is still preferred. Waiting for the final draft.

Thanks,

I use the GoodReader app on my iPad for most PDF reading because of the annotation features. Out of the box, though, the iPad does a good job rendering PDF files. Flash is another story - out of the box iPad does not support Flash, although there are supposed to be 3rd party apps that help (but I have not yet tried any).

I work graveyard and have access to color laser printer. My question to those that have experience printing manual and whatnot is should I just click print or are there some features and settings I should select to print a manual to get the best possible quality as well as legibility?

The cheap way to print

Hi,

I picked up one of these laser printers, it pumps out 18 pages a minute, the toner cartridge cost $38 from "precision roller" and is good for 10,000 pages.

Its not in color but I have markers for that...

Pick a random page that has graphics, charts and text; compare the print quality and then print the whole shebang - as they say.

IPad and GoodReader for me. I have a kindle too but honestly it's been gathering dust since getting the iPad. Perfect tool off manuals, charts, checklists and with good reader you can add your own notes too.

It's a good thing that this is Early Access and we've all volunteered to help test and enhance this work in progress... despite the frustrations inherent in the task with even the simplest of software... otherwise people might not understand that this incredibly complex unfinished module is unfinished. /light-hearted sarcasm

+1 for Good Reader. Also use my iPhone, as I already had it. Handy for sneaking a quick read of the manual, but not ideal. Still prefer a paper copy, but will wait until the final draft until I print/buy a copy (assuming a published version is still in the works?)

You're evil. Thanks to this post I blew AU$750 on an iPad here in Australia. But you're right, reading the A-10 manual on this thing is perfect; it looks stunning, and is so easy to find what you're looking for.

I'll wait for the final version and I'm definitely printing this one. I wish it had higher res photos though. I hate printing low res images.

Ok, I'm really cringing as I write this because I know it's in front of me, but forgive me. I've looked all last night and today and don't find the PDF manual everyone is talking about? If someone could just direct me I'd be major ablidged to you. (I have the start up manual from Memphis Belle)
