lobo Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 In the real aircraft I wonder if you can hear when the airbrakes are deployed? You would certainly feel it at higher speeds... in the sim should there be a sound effect to give us this missing clue? Thoughts? dave4002000 Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 If you're in a dive and your airspeed is decreasing.....your speedbrakes are open ;) But seriously, i would think you would at least hear some buffeting seeing as the brakes on this thing are like barn doors..lol Who knows..could very well be in the works and just not implemented in this early beta USAF Bomber Avionics Specialist, Ret. kylania Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 Speedbrakes are becoming a big pain for me. First it was from an awkward control scheme, but now I'm still having trouble figuring out when they are open! :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Christmas Cheer - A Landing Practice Mission : Beta Paint Schemes : HOTAS Keyboard Map : Bingo Fuel - A DCS A-10C Movie
dane48 Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 You can always make a quick check on the outside view to see the status of your brakes "To most people, the sky is the limit. To those who love aviation, the sky is home."-----anonymous
arality Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 Or you can put the speed brakes on a slider on your hotas, if you have one. Then just a quick glance to see if they are deployed or not.
goldfinger35 Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Or you can put the speed brakes on a slider on your hotas, if you have one. Then just a quick glance to see if they are deployed or not. Is it possible to assign speed brakes on a slider on Hotas? It seems that slider can only be assigned to axis commands? i7 920@4.0Ghz, 12 GB RAM, ATI 4890, LG L246WHX@1920x1200, Saitek X52 Pro, Saitek pro flight rudder pedals, TrackIR4, Audigy 2ZS, Logitech G9x, Vista 64bit.
robmlufc Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 I guess there is no caption on the warning panel or anywhere to say they are deployed?

This would be a very GOOD thing! I have the perfect slider in the throttle of my X-52 Pro, bu cannot finger out how to get it recognized by the sim... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] A tale of 2 hogs
nomdeplume Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 You can't do it with the sim, but you can with the Saitek profiling software. You set the slider mode to 'bands' and then you can assign keypresses to certain bands. I think I use the top and bottom 10% of the range to retract and open the speedbrakes, respectively. You just have to be careful not to use any other keyboard commands while using the speedbrakes since the keys are likely to conflict.

Bulletstop Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 I always do a quick check, with trackir it is real easy and takes less then a second. arteedecco Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 Go-around : Make it part of your flow (mental shortlist - "checklist") to retract speedbrakes completely >> as soon as your nose is above the horizon you're full throttle and cleaning the aircraft up (gear, flaps, brakes) Descent : You need to stabilize your descent anyhow, meaning you should have time for a quick shoulder check / outside view check (F2...peek...F1) One thing that may help is to get used to motor speed on the speedbrakes, for deploying in descents w/out having to peek. Practice on the ground during preflight. kylania Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 I have the perfect slider in the throttle of my X-52 Pro, bu cannot finger out how to get it recognized by the sim... The problem with the slider is how the air brakes work. There are two buttons associated with them and each one opens or closes depending on how long you hold down the button. So your slider won't be from "closed" to "open" as you expect, instead you'll have to map a percentage of the slider to one of the two keys, then slide down or up and hold as long as you want it to be raised/closed. Then you have to move the slider back to the middle dead zone you've setup. If you don't, then you'll keep affecting the speed brakes, and you'll keep pressing that button in Windows! Fish Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 Or you can put the speed brakes on a slider on your hotas, if....... I think the reason its not available as an analog axis in the sim, is because in RL its worked from a rocker switch on the A10 throttle.
