B5 (or 4.5) was supposed to arrive before the new year. Then it became second week of January timeframe. After that, as soon as TIR is fixed, late January.

Then, oops! There's no B5 at all! That was for Steam. (WHaaaaa? And where did that come from?!?) Now there are problems that have more or less postponed B6 until...? And I don't even think we'd have gotten that info two weeks ago if a forum member didn't drag up something that a developer said in the Russian forums.

I'm not going to subscribe to the conspiracy theories on the sell-off of ED...

The update will be ready when Mindscape says its ready?

But I do feel that something is amiss on the visible (consumer) side of ED. The sudden removal of Battle Commander, and the confusion that caused even within ED. Wags apparently knowing nothing about B5 as a Steam testbed. JimMack speaking of an end-of-feb release! (I'll eat my hat!) And am I the only one that thinks that they did an open, full-priced pre-release maybe because they needed a cash advance? I don't think any of the ED guys are going to come on here and say, "yep, that's why we did it," (though that was the presumption by other producers/devs in the recent State of the Industry article.) While it's true what others have said, that ED is fairly open to handing out information. At the same time, we repeatedly hear things from one producer or dev that contradicts something we were just told the day before. it wouldn't surprise me if they finally update us again and said, "there will be no further betas, we're shooting for a full release," and then beta 7 shows up on the download page tomorrow.

I left for a while, came back and saw like 6 pages added to this thread. Got excited for about 30 seconds, then realized it's only because of the same disruptive crap posted by the same disruptive member here, as usual.

@3poch I really wouldn't push them man. We're all just as eager as you are, especially since the full version was originally to be released in 2010 ;). I'm sure they're working hard, and I'm sure they aren't happy either.

 

Matt isn't a developer, he's the producer of a major joint operation. I don't think it's a conspiracy.

Geez, I think most of us would be pissed if they did that (unless a beta was released tomorrow, regardless of the number, as long as we get our stuff). If there's another annoucement about further delays (unless it's something big to fix) I have the feeling there's going to be a major uproar.

 

Lest I say it again, dropping us a partial beta with certain fixes is better than making us all wait with no word for a full beta or release candidate in a couple months.

You did not pay for the beta. You pre-ordered the release version of the game.

 

Access to Open Beta codes is a bonus - a sort of "thankyou for pre-ordering".

I think some sort of update would be nice. I'm losing faith here and the new conspiracy theories make me wonder. The internal confusion is quite surprising, and the stuff Mower is posting really does need to quit (I usually support the class clown but it has gone too far).

 

Something must be seriously wrong internally at the company for a black hole to erupt after all of the imminent beta patch releases. If there was a legitimate business move, such as skipping to release candidate because they were close, most would understand, so why not some sort of update unless it is damaging to the company.

I think there are only three options:

a) we will eventually get beta 6 but final version will probably not be released this month

b) they have skipped releasing betas to us pre-ordering customers and will probably release the final version late February

c) something has gone wrong (show-stopping bugs? contract problems?)

For some reason I have a bad feeling about option "C". I hope that it isn't, but at the same time, the more controversy the more they may feel the need to address what is going on. So work up a shit storm via the rumor mill (only half kidding).

I agree completely!! I have no doubt that they're working their a$$'s off, and I have the utmost respect for the devs that have created the greatest sims I've ever flown, bar none! I was just airing in the chit-chat thread a few suspicions I've had from the first mention of a pre-purchase, and they're not unfounded. If ED's industry peers have drawn similar conclusions from the available information, that doesn't make it fact, but it doesn't make it conspiracy either. I'm aware that Matt's a producer and not a dev, which makes some of the contradictory statements and occurances all the more strange.

Again, I have nothing but respect for ED for the fantastic flight sims that are without equal and I will support anything they produce as long as it maintains this level of quality and realism. My original post didn't presume to tell ED how to run their business, neither did it even criticize how it's currently run. I didn't mean it to be rude or disrespectful and I hope it didn't come across that way. It was a small collection of observations I've made over the past six months and the conclusions that I'm beginning to draw based on them.

d) Most of them probably don't know what's going on, since they're probably just doing internal testing and are waiting on a build from the engineers to release to us, and are not at liberty to give us an estimation window, because their job is on the line. ;)
