The biggest problem right now with mine is the amount of RAM and the 32 bits OS since they changed the minimum requirement from 2 to 3 GB. And the slow(5400rpm) hard drive. Hope to change these soon. genbrien Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Pc is in my sig. Went from a e6600 overclocked at 3.6ghz, than a E8600 at 4.4ghz and finally I have my Q9550 overclocked at 3.9ghz(still trying to hit higher than 4ghz with it) all on air. Always got INTEL CPU since my P2 200mhz. I know that AMD have good CPU too, but I'm kind of a fanboy for that. Running all game very well, and running DCS A-10 with an average of 25fps, at 1920x1080 and everything high(except ''civ traffic'' and ''shadow'') + 4x AA. Personnaly I dont think the brand of the CPU matters, compare to the GPU one on certain game. Good luck! power5 Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Very interested in some sort of benchmark all could use. Is there a way we can do some sort of standardized benchmark? If someone posts a track could everyone play said track and report FPS on it as a sort of benchmark? I dont know if there is a way to report FPS min, avg, max from DCS or it would be something where you have to watch the top left corner. I am wondering if I get an 1100t, 2500k, or wait for Bulldozer. 2500k is going to be dirt dirt cheap at microcenter by my house, but the 1100t stacks up pretty well to it. Throw overclocking into the mix and the 2500k destroys the AMD abilities though. A 2500k at 4.7ghz on air is sooooooo tempting this weekend. Hard to pass up at $179. MTFDarkEagle: How do you like the D-14? This is at the top of my cooling list for my computer upgrade for sure. How loud is it? You have a mild OC so I would assume low speeds would be good enough for you. How loud is it at max speed if you have tried that out? Konovalov Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 The NH-D14 is one of the better air heatsinks. I run my i7-950 almost stock 3.07 ghz 1.15v and temp idle is 30c and at 100% load reaches 60c. High rpm fan only drops temp by a degree or 2 and is inaudible with the low noise adaptor. Trinitry Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 (edited) CPU: AMD X6 1090 @3,8ghz Mainboard: Gigabyte Cooling: Muggen 2 RAM: 4 gb DDR3 GPU: NVIDIA GTX 460 WIN 7 64 Bit Game-Settings: Textures = High Scenes = Medium Civ.Traffic = Off Heat Bluer = On Shadows = Low Water = Low Resolution = 1920x1080 AA = 8Q FSAA = On HDR = On Fullscreen = On I get between 16 and 60 FPS in quickstart-mission with standard-settings (summer, clear sky, easy, 12:00). Starting on the runway I have about 30-32 FPS. This is , if at all, only slightly better as my core2duo at 3,6 ghz, I had before. I have to admit that I made a wrong decission with upgrading to the X6. I was not able to get more than 3,8 ghz out of the cpu, some will go up to 4,2 with air-cooling. But looking to an I5-760 which should be savely overclockable up to 4,8ghz, and Intel is faster with same clockspeed, I think Intel is currently clearly the stronger competitor regarding performance as well as value. But I'm not unhappy with my system, I would only make another decission If I could choose again. Edited January 14, 2011 by Trinitry
emenance Posted January 16, 2011 Author Posted January 16, 2011 (edited) Yeah the x6 is talked down here http://pcper.com/hwlb.php?guide2=y#guide2 and after looking around i still lean towards a quad 4 . Others have decided that too for gaming. x6 seems to be best in a workstation heavy environment. I might surprise myself and be able to retire my rig in 6 months. Amd prices sure are attractive. I guess the Core i7 860 is cheaper and performs better than the 1090T . I think i still have some Amd quad core and i7 comparisons to make. Like a Phenom II 970BE or something. BUT some core I7 dont support the tripple channel memory and thats bad! http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:wTwdgVmzIIkJ:www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/All-Core-i7-Models/708+pci+express+controller+core+i7&cd=5&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us Edited January 16, 2011 by emenance Asus P8Z68-V GEN3/ 2500k 4.4ghz / Corsair 64gb SSD Cache / Corsair 8g 1600 ddr3 / 2 x 320gb RE3 Raid 0 /Corsair 950w/ Zotac 560TI AMP 1gb / Zalman GS1200 case /G940/
