Conure Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Hey all, Was just browsing through my Steam games and realised that last year I had bought IL-2 1946...Anyway, I've looked it up a bit and it seemed to have been released in 2001. Some screenshots look okay but...I'm not sure...Are the graphics horrific? I love decent flight sims but if the graphics are too bad then I will just stick to A10. Anyway, worth a go? It's quite a large install! Rusty_M Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 I'd not call them horrific. In fact I bought IL-2 1946 last year, and have had a great time with it. Get it patched to version 4.10 and enjoy yourself. Make sure you force some AA on as it really improves the look of the game. The world is going mad. Me? I'm doing fine! http://www.twitch.tv/rusty_the_robot https://www.youtube.com/user/RustyRobotGaming
Conure Posted January 23, 2011 Author Posted January 23, 2011 Wait for Cliffs of Dover :) Can't wait for that one :) I'd imagine it'll get its full release about the same time as A-10 (maybe) so I'll be very occupied.. Judging by the guys over at the forums though, anything less than 16gb of ram, a sandybridge cpu and SLI'd 570s wont run it... walker450 Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 IL2 is still a great looking game! Just patch it accordingly and download some high-res skins. Look at these screenshots: http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/2672377/Luftwaffe_against_the_White_Ro.html#Post2672377 However, if you are the type that rather not install mods etc, just wait for Cliffs of Dover like Viper said. :) Speedpad for Inputs | My Simpit | Joystick Damper Mod
Rusty_M Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Even patched to 4.10 it looks nice, although conf.ini will need some tweaks The world is going mad. Me? I'm doing fine! http://www.twitch.tv/rusty_the_robot https://www.youtube.com/user/RustyRobotGaming

But tell me which sim game with high tech can be played as full spec at release ? I suppose some i7 and a 460 or 5870 should be enought to hav epretty decent GFX. But anyway a10C ain t WW2. If yuou have ROF, IL2 is the same engine, so there s not that big diference with 4.10 update.(ROF being better) And yeah IL2 is a blast. Poor mans sniper Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 Wings of prey is the newer version of IL-2, it is made by the same devs, and it is even called IL-2 on the console version of it.

spn Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 (edited) I have flown the IL-2 1946 since it's release. I also had all of the individual flight sims prior to the company combining the 6 individual flight sims into one flight sim. You can't go wrong with this purchase. Just make sure that you do all of the updates to the IL-2 1946 sim and I think you will be very pleased with what you end up with for a WWII sim. When you get the sim up and running, setup up you flights to have a plane in every country that is represented in the game. I currently have 49 differant countries, planes, missions, etc. setup in my sim under the "Pilot Career" area. That is a lot of flying with differant countries and planes to keep you busy. power5 Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 You will not find a more expansive sim. I would say its near impossible to master each of the different models of plane in the game. I have no idea what my version is anymore. I was never able to get ultra mod to work. What mods do you have Blaze? PDM Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 since the new patches to cliffs of dover i can't go back to 1946 even with the patches. although im more of a fan of the pacific war and i love to have a battle with an a6m vs a seafire i still love cliffs of dover better. as far as DCS I really wish they could come up with more ww2 planes and maps. I would appriciate an english channel and perhaps a german or japanesse aircraft. would be VERY nice.

Even with the latest beta patch is still a huge mess. To top it off, they devs finally said yeah, it is horrible, but we cant make money off it, so if you want fixes, you have to buy our sequel. No thanks. Id rather wait for DCS to make something, that actually works, or play modded IL2, than fork more money over to 1C that has not yet completed the game that was released over a year ago. i5 3570k @ 4.3 560ti GTX 2gig 8gig RAM Intel SSD Win7 64bit
