Nevada was originally a community project, which ED got behind with the intent of providing limited support with the goal of official inclusion into A-10C as a training map. However, as time went on the community effort could only get so far and eventually ED largely took over the project to bring it to a much more complete state and utilize new terrain mapping and rendering technologies being developed in-house.

The beta Nevada terrain may have been functional, but it was largely an empty landmass with some sections of populated, but still unoptimized terrain. You could argue that it was "good enough" for a freebie with release, but we believe the Nevada map has a lot of gameplay potential and deserves to be developed fully, even if this means we need to recoup the costs of development by offering it as an addon.

A good decision :) But for next DCS I hope we get a new big theater, georgia is getting old now.

No...[insert non sensical rant]...anything new.

You clearly need to get a grip and get educated on how these things work.

This wouldn't even be that huge a deal but they advertised the Nevada map, then pulled it EXACTLY in time for the game to release.

No it was removed earlier.

Clearly it *is* a "big deal" to you based upon the lather you are working yourself into.

Go get a stiff drink.

As you may have gathered from luckybob9's description - it's not that simple or easy. We all (devs, testers) wish we could have the globe, too, and potentially the moon :)

Let me ask you this: If the Nevada map *was* finished for release, would we be playing it now? If so, why are they charging extra because *they* ran out of time?

You dont have to buy it. Do without it.

Im confused: did you pay $59 for this or $5900? You need to adjust your expectations and demands a little, well, okay alot.

Your relative entertainment value from DCS A-10C is really very good if you compare the hours you will spend flying and enjoying it, to let's say, the price of a movie ticket and some popcorn with a soda.

Movie + Popcorn + Soda = $20-25 for approx 1.5-2 hours of entertainment. That's roughly $10.00 per hour of entertainment.

DCS A-10C = $60.00 for approx 200 hours of gameplay. That's roughly 30 cents an hour.

Says the guy who posts four uninterrupted flamebait responses *in a row*...

"Get a grip"

"Get educated"

"Work yourself into a lather" (implying I'm hysterical)

"Don't like it don't buy it" (good argument blow-off there)

Clearly you're the beacon of maturity.

Yeah I'm clearly not speaking for myself there..or you for that matter, but I had to average it...so the conservative 200 was what I picked....

This Sim is a tremendous entertainment value for me IMHO.

You forgot another 2000$ for the equipment to run it on. The prices then become equal.

you people can rationalize this way of doing business all you want, after all, nobody wants to feel like they're getting ripped off. but withholding something that has already been created and selling it for extra money is poor business, any way you look at it.

Why do you feel like you are being ripped off? If you bought the beta you will get it for free! Or did that change?

It wasnt already created, if you had the beta you would know that it was far from finished.

Well that's putting the cart in front of the horse....If you dont have the equipment to run this Sim, you would not be buying it. No sense in purchasing something that will not run on your PC.

If you spent 1-2K on this Sim, then your PC needed a hefty upgrade.

That of course is the story of PC Gaming, Software development drives Hardware development and the inverse is true.

Welcome to the never ending quest to having a great PC gaming rig. It's not for everybody.

Yes, must be, since you cant be ripped off unless you paid for something. And if you paid for it during beta, when it was included, you will get Nevada for free, so you cant get ripped of even IF you paid for it.

You need to research how software development functions in the real world.

I support ED's efforts: they are a small team. :smilewink:

I certainly was not in any way decrying the efforts of the developers of this sim. It is clearly a superior product that took a lot of time to create and cudos to ED for that.

I do stand by the point that if you sell a product the purchaser shouldexpect get everything that is displayed on the package. Software development has nothing to do with it. This is purely marketing.

I have enjoyed this debate though as it shows the depth of feeling and ultimate support for this sim and a willingness to spend more money to get the results of EDs efforts.

In his defense there were a few features listed on the official DCS:WH page that were removed from the beta and from the website as those features were either incomplete (nevada) or they weren't actually allowed to use it (player JTAC/battlefield commander). Its something that sadly happens all the time. I couldn't count the number of times I saw a scene in a trailer only for it to be cut. Same goes for features in games. Thankfully it is well acknowledged that the Nevada terrain is being worked on. Its not like they are going to scrap it...

As for DLC, there is a wide range of content types out there. My best guess is that the nevada DLC will function as a mini-expansion pack. Think of it as similar to the ARMA 2 DLC, but I doubt the same content at lower quality, will be available for those who don't buy it. So yeah, I severely doubt ED is going to jump the shark in terms of how they offer extra post-release content. They might not be like Valve where everything is free for PC, but it's not like we can pre-order DCS:WH from gamestop and get an additional 700 rounds to feed the GAU-8 that only pre-orders from gamestop get...

The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world.

@ Grimes: Nice response sir.

On topic, I love flying the valleys of the Balkans in F4 AF and would welcome the opportunity of doing the PPCAS missions in a-10C. Would that be too similar to what we already have? +1 for the Afghan theatre though.

Just curious, does that mean anytime during the pre order? A friend actually ended up buying it for me and was just curious since it was a couple weeks before it released.
