Conure Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Hey all, Have been looking into alternative sims whilst I wait on my A10c to get more activations. Checking out free falcon atm...How is it? Is it detailed like DCS? Is it worth a try, even for a few days? Intel i7 6700k, Asus GTX1070, 16gb DDR4 @ 3200mhz, CH Fighterstick, CH Pro Throttle, CH Pro Rudder Pedals, Samsung Evo 850 SSD @ 500GB * 2, TrackIR 5 and 27" monitor running at 2560 * 1440, Windows 10.
element1108 Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 You'll probably get mixed responses, I tried it out for a bit and had some fun with it. The version I had was buggy though, floating planes on the tarmac, had some issues with configuring my X52 with that copy as well. I didn't get to take it very far, but somewhat enjoyed what I did get to play. I'm sure there is a method to download/install and run properly, there is a pretty active freefalcon community. I didn't really give it enough time simply because time isn't a luxury I have these days. I say go for it...you might REALLY enjoy it.
Conure Posted March 16, 2011 Author Posted March 16, 2011 Thank you for the reply! Hmm...It's either this or lock on..I am severely craving fixed wing action! A bit worried lock on is so unrealistic it's barely fun, though... Free Falcon is 10 times better than lock on if you can get it to run stable, there are a lot of CTD's and u gotta have the right setup. Yeah I tried it for like 45 mins, no luck...CTD every single time...Tried a few of the fixes but no luck...Have bought lock on instead, it was cheap and will pass some time I'm sure...Does this mean I can go online and shoot at KA50s? (I mean flaming cliffs 2) Intel i7 6700k, Asus GTX1070, 16gb DDR4 @ 3200mhz, CH Fighterstick, CH Pro Throttle, CH Pro Rudder Pedals, Samsung Evo 850 SSD @ 500GB * 2, TrackIR 5 and 27" monitor running at 2560 * 1440, Windows 10.
SUBS17 Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 The most stable version of Falcon 4 is Falcon 4 Allied Forces the next best version is Open Falcon which can be downloaded from here: http://www.f4support.com/forums/index.php Just follow the instructions and also RTFM as its alot more complex than the other version of Falcon it includes working data link, VHF/UHF radio and extra radar modes straight out of the real F-16 manual. Free falcon in my view has alot of CTDs but it does have nice graphics but is less complex than OF. [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]

(I mean flaming cliffs 2) Yes! Although hardly a challenge unless they are being properly defended. While FC may be missing all the systems of a particular jet, what is there is done well and mutiplayer is great. I would rather fly A-10A in FC online with other aircraft with different roles, than co-op A-10C only. Yes, you will crave for a fighter jet that is to DCS standards even more since playing A-10/Ka-50 though :)
Slammin Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 I just installed FF this past weekend. I never could get it to run before but I got it working this time, though it is a little buggy. I was not able to get OF to run at all. sobek Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 The most stable version of Falcon 4 is Falcon 4 Allied Forces the next best version is Open Falcon which can be downloaded from here: That is completely down to preference. Saying which is better isn't really an option, as they all have their merits and shortcomings. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
WynnTTr Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 That is completely down to preference. Saying which is better isn't really an option, as they all have their merits and shortcomings. Time for ED to take up the challenge? :music_whistling: Unfortunately if ED decides to do a Viper then comparisons are inevitable. I don't envy the task ahead in surmounting an established fan base if ED do decide the F-16.
SUBS17 Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 No its the reality F4AF most stable MP and SP, OF good graphics and most complex version of the lot. FF nice graphics, ability to fly other aircraft types with custom pits etc. If you merged all 3 you would have the ultimate sim but I think BMS would be the best mod when it comes out as it takes the avionics upto DCS level practically lets just hope its as stable as F4AF.:pilotfly: [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
Stretch Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Well, it's more complicated than that SUBS. For example, OF does have the best overall avionics, but FF has a much more realistic HARM system. Tim "Stretch" Morgan 72nd VFW, 617th VFS Other handles: Strikeout (72nd VFW, 15th MEU Realism Unit), RISCfuture (BMS forums) PC and Peripherals: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/RISCfuture/saved/#view=DMp6XL Win10 x64 — BMS — DCS — P3D
Boberro Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 FreeFalcon is enjoyable for people who don't look on graphics only. It has many flaws but overall it is nicely made cockpit sim. Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
spn Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 I just came across another site that is for Falcon 5.5. I haven't tried it yet http://www.freefalcon.com/forum/showthread.php?19348-FreeFalcon-5.5-Release-amp-FF5.5-Cockpit-Installer
Irregular programming Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Last I checked FF had terrible issues with nvidia cards.
mvsgas Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 All Falcon version bring something to the table. AF was stable in XP, OF avionics where very good in XP and FreeFalcon has very good graphics and you can play it in Win 7. All have many bugs, but they have many good things as well. AF and FF you do not need the original Falcon 4 CD. I think is cool you can download FF and play, do yo guys know any other free sim with that level of detail? I don't. To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. Thank you for you patience. Many people don't want the truth, they want constant reassurance that whatever misconception/fallacies they believe in are true..

bart86pl Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 I`v tried FF on win XP and 7 - no luck unfortunetly. Couldnt configure my CH Fighterstick and Throttle with it. Also there was some problem with nvidia drivers. But the old Falcon 4.0 Allied Force works like a charm. I just love it. [sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/signaturepics/sigpic73792_1.gif [/sIGPIC]
J. Heller Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 AS far as stability goes Falcon AF is the best way to go. Never had any problems running it in Win 7. No widescreen support with the cockpit that comes with it but there are some payware cockpits that support WS. Havent messed with FF or OF at all, stability is more important in my opinion.
