I always wonder why people buy a study sim like this one, learn it, go multiplayer and then act like it's some sort of a console game.

2 days in a row i find myself on an airport where ATC clearly says to take-off on runway 33 but where 50% of the players don't bother and take-off in the other direction although the tower clearly tell them to take off on runway 33 (reason: they just picked an aircraft parked on the far side of the airfield).

Upon inbound, i got clearance to land on runway 33 and just before touchdown got the order to go around (reason: some idiot thought it was his turn to take-off from RWY 15).

If you pick an airplane which sits on the opposite side of the airfield, is it really so hard to taxi around to the other side of the field and at least take-off from the correct side of the runway?

Today i was looking for some mulitplayer (there was not much available because almost every server was PW-ed) and when looking through the briefings of those that where open to the public, i saw this in the briefing:

Take-off: RWY 31, Landing: RWY 13 ....

And then... tower personel is unrealiable... hell yeah. I guess the mission designer is the most unrealibale person around.

If you want to play a study sim, then do so...

I guess that most of those guys didn't do it on purpose (they didn't know which runway to use) - rookie mistake.

Tower always takes the wrong RWY in regards to the set wind direction. So actually those who follow it's takeoff-instructions are maybe the idiots... :music_whistling:

No seriously, I understand your point in general, but I always takeoff on the opposite direction the tower advises, because that way I know I will takeoff against the wind.

But I really feel you when it comes to all the other annyoing issues of an open MP-Server.

Haven't seen this...when I've set up wind it has been the correct runway to take off/land into it....

There was an issue in the betas where both the ME and ATC handled wind incorrectly. They described the direction the wind was going, instead of the direction it was coming from.

I haven't had a chance to look at the final version with much of a critical eye, so perhaps it was never fixed...?

Yep, been there this evening, and even though i was about as useful in combat as a ulcer on your buttock, the atmosphere was very cordial and directions given out were excellent, had a really nice time there.

Sorry to have missed you Sobek, but I have it on good authority that you were well 'hosted' so to speak. Feel free to pop on the server anytime, and of course that goes to any member of the community.

At present we have two missions in 'rotation' - Op Switchblade and Op Maximise v2. Three other missions are being designed as i write this. All 5 Missions are based around a common enemy where you 'work' out of a common Airfield (FMB) under, dare i say it, a 'common' or better said, 'persistent' scenario that evolves with each mission. In essence, a MP Campaign. The Campaign Scenario can be found on the 74th's Website.

Each Mission is designed to be realistic in threat, and is always achieveable or even 'failable' (if there is such a word!), and from start to completion (either way) can take as little as 2 hrs or as long as is required.

Each mission has a concise and realistic mission briefing that is duplicated in 'colour' on the 74th's website that all registered visitors have access to. Some of these missions have 'intelli-phot' for greater clarity of understanding of the mission.

As Bengo as eluded to. Our server is closed, but is open to 'anyone' who likes to immerse themselves alongside the AFM of this fantastic sim. All they have to do is come onto TS and be issued the server password as part of the MOTD. IMHO and therefore that of the ethos of the 74th, is that it is impossible - simply IMPOSSIBLE to enjoy the sim, the missions and the whole concept of Online MP Co-op expereince unless you use voice. I'm a quick typer, but even i cant aquire a target via TGP, setp my Wpn systems and Fly, AND type at the same time, neither do I or anymember of the 74th have ANY time for others who think you can, or who endorse this as a method of interaction with the community on a server.

For those pilots who want to do daft things like fly upside down spewing chaff and flares over the runway or who don't use the correct brevity or even request RL clearance to taxi or takeoff, guess what? In RL they would be grounded and we are no different. We kick them instantly.

So, OP, come on in and enjoy yourself. Bring a Microphone, TS3, the latest client; patched, a GSOH with a tinge of seriousness and you will be made most welcome.

All others, please frequest open servers where this.............is the norm!

regards

If the server is opening for public players, it will be very hard to ask everyone to obey the rules, we have tried to ask everyone to obey the rules but failed. When we train our squadron members, we would lock our server.

Thanks god joining TS is not obligatory for most servers ;)

Some airfields are like this IRL due to the topography, 1 way in and 1 way out. If memory serves me right I think Nalchik is one. ATC needs improving to help with this imho.

Wish I had a low enough ping to jump on the 74th's server, sounds good.

What he said. Avoid such servers and servers where only 10% or so are on TS. Let them dry out. Try to initiate a snowball effect by convincing another serious player to leave the server with you.

Regarding forcing rules on public servers - 51st and 104th (those I recall) had no problems achieving this, IIRC.

Taxi way take-offs anyone?

Not that it prevents me from playing there, but "no problem" enforcing rules......

not quite, appreciate there efforts though.

Of course:megalol:

But only when the main runway has been bombed or someone crashes and blocks the runway...

Also at game start, some are just very eager to get AB.

As long as they don't run me off the taxi-way im ok whit it.

Oh yes, do an good Job at that.

Speaking of server admins, any date yet for another GCI weekend?

Loved it the few hrs i was able to come online.

IRL it is very easy to determine what the active runway is, by either listening to ATIS, or asking the tower or GC directly. I would think that in the military environment it is similarly easy.

When you have a situation where there are bugs preventing interaction with the ATC script or it gets "stuck" (which frequently happens) it's difficult to find that information out. I haven't yet tested if it sets the active runway to the direction the wind is coming from or not. I have often times been in the situation of not knowing what the game wants the active runway to be, and making the decision on my own.

When people want to play "hardcore" and pretend that they're doing it the way one would for real, that whole thing falls apart when you factor in the game elements mentioned above.
