Take On Helicopter - New game by Bohemia Interactive

Like what? Tons and tons of what? Not really a good argument when you have to resort to "lots of stuff". Whatever it is, BS is still the standard in heli sims.

And you must have missed the fun factor in BS cos you make no mention of how fun the actual game is. You conveniently forget that aspect. But going by your analogy, I'd rather try and blow up a tank than cart around containers. So you want to replace the RL experience of a military attack chopper pilot with the RL experience of a commercial civil helicopter pilot? I know which one I'd rather choose.

You're right though, Take On is a sim lite and given the hype it generated before release (Ultra realistic FM) a little gloating would probably be expected. Me, I'd rather try to experience heli flight as close to the real thing as possible and that's not Take On atm.

Sorry if i have to make a list of things that are wrong with BS it go's on and on. Yes the list would not be as big as for Take On. But still. If you dont know whats wrong with BS you didnt play it that much. But i dont care about those things cause the final product is good enough for me and i appreciate all the hard work they put into BS and DCS A-10. The only thing that botters me are the people that are bashing other good simms with less cockpit/instruments/FM fidelity as BS. And say they are totally worthless.

I didn't miss the fun factor in BS at all... I'm having alot of fun with it. Because i make it fun myself... not because the game is that fun. Same as i do with Take On helicopters. But in that game other aspects for a better immersion have been introduced. And its that immersion that keeps out the boredom. I like flying highly realistic simms like BS. But in a game like BS the boredome hits when you fully understand how it works and if you played the destroy this and destroy that missions a thousend times.. after the first 2 months.

But how did you draw the conclusion that i would like to replace a mill simm with a civ simm??? For me a Mill simm is way more interesting. And its a wonder i even play Take On helicopters. But because they make you feel you are actually part of something makes me want to play this game. Just like in Simm Copter. In DCS you are totally detached from any immersion accept for instruments and FM. And i allready got used to the instruments and FM in the first month i got the game.

I totally understand that you and others dont like Take On and that your disapointed about the FM (go wonder after playing DCS). But people here are bashing it like its the worse game ever in the same fashion they did to Falcon. They are acting like COD players. Only their game can be good. Alot of hardcore DCS players are like that. And that doesn't help the simm community at all. We should embrace new simm's and try to make them better with our feedback. And in a game like Take On helicopters its actually possible to do that. And because you have SDK tools you can even convert this game into a Mill simm chopper game. And if all the modders work together a highly realistic attack chopper game could be made by the community. A highly realistic flight simm game is not only High fidelity instruments and FM. Its about simmulating all aspects of war/conflict.

Go in close, and when you think you are too close, go in closer.

You'll note I was quoting you buddy, read your post again about how boring the BS is and where the fun factor is and how fun it was for you to fly as a commercial heli pilot.

You obviously didn't play the BS campaign... or the user made campaigns such as the VEERGEV campaign. But to each their own I guess. If you think being a courier is fun who am I to say otherwise?

I bought Take On, played it for an hour, got used to the FM (such that it is) and instruments (the ones that you can actually work) in about 20 minutes. Then started to try to play the game for real, all the time thinking I could be hugging the terrain looking for an opportune time to do a pop up attack against AAA that was trying to track me. Take On didn't even last that week for me.

I'm not saying it's the worst game ever...

but whatever, like I said, if the commercial scene is your thing then I suppose it would be fun. Personally after a full day's work I try not to nod off when playing a civilian sim.

Buzz me when that happens.

Incorrect. Show me a RL a pilot that does everything in a war. Besides you've gone off on a tangent. Show me where the conflict is in Take On.

I knew I should have waited until Take On was in the bargain bin or on Steam sale but curiosity got the better of me and I bought into the hype a little so it was kind of a let down to play the finished product.

Ah well, I'll check back in a few patches and when the modders do their magic.

Yeah pretty much the same for me. But I just downloaded the demo and that'll help decide.

I downloaded the demo. i understand there are some demo limitations and map is the detail limited "light" version. i must have missed the analog assignments for the cyclic. for some reason trackIR didn't work ou tof the box. i probably should have tried to see why and correct , but frankly for what i seen i didn't even bother.

not going to buy even on sale

HI agrasyuk and Grimes. do either of you have BS and could you tell me if the feel of flying in takeonhelicopters anything close, or is it just like FSX which is crap for helos?

Black Shark is unique with it's coaxial setup and autopilot, so I wouldn't compare BS to any other helicopter sim. FM in TKOH has potential, but it needs some work. With community FM mods it is quite good, but there is big FM patch coming, and then it should be much better.

HOKUM52, i don't think i'm that into helo's to be able to reply with any kind off authority. the FM of default FSX rotor crafts didn't bother me that much, but then i didn't flew them that much either.

trackir needs to be enabled to work

look in options

but then it doesn't in any other sim i tried so far. if it is present software assumes i want to use it. yes i should have investigated farther, but there were a lot of other things ()more important then TIR func) in the way that turned me off that sim.

i realize that perhaps it is me drawing conclusion to fast, but i gave it about half an hour of a chance. the sim failed to make first impression, at this point i don't see how it is preferable to FSX paired with good addon helo (or is there no such thing?).

I asked over on Avsim for a reccomendation for a good FSX helicopter addon and was unanimously told to get Dodo sim. Cant remember the exact name. Can look on the lapdog and find out if your interested. Apparently it is the dogs Bs for flight model etc. However I was REALLY dissapointed with the quality of the virtual cockpit. It has a mechanical wear and tear model though which makes things interesting. Coupled with very high quality photographic terrain and decent add-on weather it is reasonably enjoyable.

And to add, I think anybody making any sort of flight sim should be encouraged, not shot down. The more people in on this, the bigger the market, the more money, the better the chance of their one day being a truly amazing simulator. It is good for beginners if flight models are dumbed down a bit too. Noone can get into a real heli and expect to survive without some training.

the Dodo is quite awsome. Yea its a lower quality cockpit than some but it really feels right, and you can break it hehe. Its got all the goodies like VRS and retreating blade stall etc, and it will wear out and need maintaince. I love aircraft like this as it makes them feel more real and you have a bad day if you mistreat them. All the A2A aircraft have a wear and tear/maintence system (The B-17 is so much fun to fly hehe) also the Katana Diamond from Aerosoft. Ofc the PMDG 737NGX is king of the hill though as far as having a fully fledged maintance failure system based on realworld figures.

Smoking guns and spinning rotor blades – Bohemia Interactive has announced the first official DLC for Take On Helicopters:

Take On Helicopters: Hinds.

Bez-názvu-11.jpg

Shifting focus to a more combat-oriented experience, Take On Helicopters: Hinds puts players in the seat of the most iconic and revolutionary military gunship ever: the Hind.

Creative Director Jay Crowe points out:

“With Take On Helicopters, our goal was to strike a balance between pure gaming – story-driven scenarios, challenges, time trials – and an authentic experience of flying a helicopter. Of course, that’s a tough job, but alongside the accessible controls, difficulty settings and optional assists, we’re glad to find a big range of people having fun flying helicopters in Take On.

Our game doesn’t demand you to have any previous flight (game) experience, nor does it matter if you want to play it with mouse-and-keyboard, a gamepad or, for that matter, a full-blown cockpit-setup. In that sense, the civil-aviation context – not to mention the wonderful Seattle as the setting – of Take On Helicopters was ideal, as it allowed us to create a fun set of missions, whilst keeping the primary focus upon flying helicopters.

On the other hand, after launching the game, we felt there was room to complement Take On Helicopters with a more ‘action-packed’ experience. Our Hinds DLC is perfect for those who are seeking the adrenaline rush of flying a classic military gunship and getting into combat.”

Take On Helicopters: Hinds includes the Mil Mi-24 V, Mi-24 P and Mi-35 Super Hind helicopter gunships (with over 25 different liveries), a brand new set of singleplayer challenges, 5 time trials and new competitive multiplayer scenarios.

The release date is set on Thursday 15 March 2012, when it will be available for download at Store.bistudio.com, Steam, Desura and several other online stores.

Why not?

It's 13€ for three versions of Hind, and some other stuff, including military content. It's not study sim, but I like TKOH. When compared to addons for other sims - FSX, RoF or Black Shark 2 overhaul it's not that much for that content.

I'd like to see a trailer, how weapons systems were enhanced, but I'll probably buy it anyway. Beside Black Shark there is no other game to fly a gunship, Combat Helo is not ready, and ED is not interested in helicopters at the moment.

Yes but is it a proper Hind? I knwo that BI didn't have official licenses from the heli manufacturers so ToH's heli's weren't quite right. They looked generally similar to some helis but obviously not so much as to get themselves sued.

And how's the FM nowadays?
