It will be system dependent. Most tweaks have more effect on resource deficient systems. If you have the horsepower to run Aero full out then you may not see an increase in performance by switching it off. The above post stated that it should be turned on. For some end users that don't have top of the line hardware, it could cause a significant decrease in any game's performance to activate Windows Aero. For instance, I can compress a video and run multiple games simultaneously, but I wouldn't advise others do it. Just a cautionary statement. Napa Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 (edited) I haven't noticed any stutter except from the usual half sec on the very start once I'm in the cockpit. Complete smoothness throughout the entire flight. Defragging and restarting with scandisc HDD must have helped too. Fps around 35-75. Excellent patch.. looking forward for the next one. Edit: Forgot to mention that Loading times are the same for me. Didn't notice any difference. rainyday Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Same results as with the most users - game runs smoother! Including TrackIr. Loading times are longer in a way that you notice it but doesn't really bother - especially when spending 1-2 hours in the cockpit for one mission. But I do get small freezes too every now and then. Cant say whether they were there before the patch, though or not. In quick mission before each new objective loads there was a slight pause atleast. Great job anyway! Not worried about random crashes anymore. *fingers crossed* A-10C Warthog | AJS-37 Viggen | F-5E Tiger II | Mig-15bis | MiG-19P Farmer
Capnsully Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Well done DCS, noticeably smoother, even the night flights with my Core i7 920/ GTX 275 combo are very smooth! I've even been able to max the visibility now and yes, trackir runs very smooth now. Great! I have not seen any users with this combo AFAIK having any real problems yet. Knock on wood :music_whistling: Is this due to that most of the testers are around those rig configs?? But then you say on your pc, where you can "run multiple games simultaneously, while compressing a video" you get 10-15 fps gain. Let me tell you what I think: I think this is BS. If your PC would gain FPS from turning Aero off, then is really not a system to play DCS sims from the beginning on. And Hassata, talked about the interaction with Helios, witch is something completely different. Anyway back to topic: The new patch is really great work. And also gives measurable FPS gains! Zorg_DK Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Impressive patch ED, what a huge fix list. So far I've had no CTD's in SP. The long load time is ok with me, it gives me time to get a cub of coffee. :) And fps is great even in missions with massive number of units. Also nice getting rid of mouse cursor in F1 and F2 view. Well done! "There are only 10 types of people in the world — those who understand binary, and those who don't." [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

StrongHarm Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 (edited) asparagin, Intelligent discussion is always welcome, but I don't have time to argue with you or substantiate each statement I make when trying to help. Give the forum rules another read and continue to enjoy being part of this community. If you want to argue with someone on the matter of Windows Aero, I'm sure Linda Yan of Microsoft would welcome you to the technet forums: Linda: Some games require a massive amount of memory and resources to run which takes too many resources to keep up Aero. This line of discussion is complete. The topic is "Love the new patch!"... carry on. Mirtma Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Now I have feeling that I'm flying fast when flying low. Before I had feeling, that ground moved too slow. Only tested few minutes tho. There are loooong loading times, but if that means faster game flow, that's OK with me. Bodo Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Loading times aren't too different for me but the patch has definitely enhanced performance. Smoother, more consistent FPS and on average I'd say around 10-20 more. Very well done and can't wait for the next patch, and the next, and the next...., Keep up the good work all those behind the testing and coding and I hope you're all proud of yourselves. It's quite simply a lovely experience to enjoy even a casual fly around whilst the sun is rising (which is about all I can do as I've been delaying playing due to how complex it is and wanting patches like this to come out).
