Smeghead Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 I'm seeing frame rate loss too...also momentary freezes rampant. My review of my first mission with the new patch. I defragged and optimized right after applying the patch to be sure it was not going to be hindered by fragmentation. Considering the system I have (quad core, 1 month old vid card etc) I'm still disappointed. The performance keeps going down down for me every patch. I mean it is smooth at first but once you get into the action and thick of things I'm getting really long lags especially near the ground. So far it took me 3mins and 59 seconds to load the first campaign mission. Once I was in it was smooth @ 1440x900 with much on high. I got permission to taxi, but my wingman just sat there and didn't move. So I had to order him into a formation to get him to move and follow me. He eventually took off and caught up. I took off and once thing I noticed was the contrails above. Pretty cool. But when I look up with my track IR the WHOLE contrail will disappear at times! So there is some sort of graphical glitch for that. So to near the IP, I call JTAC to check in. I tell him I'm ready for the 9 line, and then right away out of the blue "Abort Abort Abort!" then asks me again if I'm ready for the 9 line. I'm like wtf I didn't shoot.. So I ask for it, get the coordinates. Got the data, but no data uplink again! I had the right net / group ID so it must not work again... So I turn on my TGP - had to wait 5 seconds of lag for it to turn on. I eventually got the coordinates and manually put them in and they were spot on. Quite a battle going on so I fly in and try to drop some cbu-97's and when I do it becomes a slide show. I turn around frustrated and say screw it I'm going to strafe the rest of the armor column and the lag got so bad I basically went from 2000ft to instantly being on the ground in flames. The good news so far now after a couple missions is that is has not crashed. After the last patch I couldn't get through 2 missions without a crash. So we are seeing some progress. The list is long... keep plugging away! I can't wait to try multiplayer finally to have the data link working.
Madman777 Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 I'm seeing frame rate loss too...also momentary freezes rampant. +1 i7-12700k, 32GB Ram, RTX 3060 12GB, TrackIR 5, Lots of SSD Space, etc etc DCS World - All the cool modules
mtuckner Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 I did a clean install and my FPS issue is fixed. Similar FPS to the previous patch, only this time the buildings fade in closer to me making the terrain seem flatter. Only flew one mission but did notice those .75 second pauses a few times, I held my breath expecting a crash but it plugged on afterwards. I will have to get some more time in before I form an opinion, but I am already thinking of looking into what I have to do to get the old building view distance back.
636_Castle Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Castle, it is this severe as mine? About 75% loss? Nowhere near that. Maybe only 10 or so frames. But the freezing is something new, and it's pretty frequent. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] How To Fix Your X-52's Rudder!
RAF74_Raptor Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Thanks guys for the patch so far no problems I came I saw I got blown up by a SA-8:pilotfly: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] http://www.firstfighterwing.com/forums/content.php
S77th-konkussion Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 +1 Same here. The "//" trick solved some freezes like a 3-4 second freeze when MAV's hit a target, and upon a switch to F3 external view- but they are still quite bad. Bad stutter when turning on TGP. (not pwr- but selecting mode after warmup) others are a bit random.. will try to write down some specifics if I can find any other patterns.. Frames seem pretty sucky to so-so to me. (MP mission: "separatist aggression" as client, host only other one in room..) [sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=43337&d=1287169113[/sIGPIC]
Scratchy Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Finally gave it a go with the new patch. I have about 8 frames a second at batumi vs about 40 before. Not sure what gives? Same graphics settings... Is this with all views? Just external? Engines running? - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Intel i7-8700K @4.9Ghz | 32Gb memory DDR4 | Evga GTX 1080ti | Saitek Eclipse keyboard | Logitech Mx518 | CH Fighterstick, Pro Throttle/Pedales | TIr5 | Win10 x64 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
mtuckner Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Scratchy it was with all views, and I never did a cold start while checking. From the runway and even in the sparse quick start missions. It is fixed though now, I did a reinstall of the program and patched to .6 and then .7 and it works now aside from the occasional freezes as mentioned by others.
CrashEd Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Bad stutter when turning on TGP. (not pwr- but selecting mode after warmup) others are a bit random.. will try to write down some specifics if I can find any other patterns.. +1 here, although I had this in 1.0.0.6. Everything else seems to be relatively smooth on Med-High settings for me. Get the odd stutter every now and again.

I had hours of enjoyment learning many of the systems but now that you want to put them in action it just doesn't work well at all. I think i'm just going to come back in about 6 months when this is ready for most people to use. Funny how I can run Crysis 2 at full detail but I can't do 1440x900 with half detail on this without really bad stuttering at times (mainly due to hard drive) but even on the ground the frame rates are not too great. Oh well, another patch another disappointment. See ya in another month or so for the next one.
PhoenixBvo Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Smeghead, comparing Crysis 2 performance to DCS is like comparing Miss World to a Nobel prize winner. Crysis 2 is all about good looks without much depth in terms of CPU-side simulation and DCS is first and foremost a very intricate simulation with enormous CPU loading. As a bonus we get nice graphics as well, but the bottleneck lies with the CPU. That means your graphics card is waiting on the CPU to produce new data to draw its next frame. Get better CPU+mobo+memory and you'll see a good performance increase, get a better graphics card and you'll see the same performance. KaspeR32 Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 It's so odd to see people with all these issues. The 1.1.0.7 patch works flawlessly for me. The only issue I had was the explosion freeze (2-3 second freeze on first explosion) and that seems to be it. Everyone with the frame rate problems, I feel as though it's most likely user error or user settings. Drivers, De-frag ( if you have mechanical HD,) Clean install; these things solve 99% of the problems usually. I don't even have an i7 and my game runs very smooth. amigastar Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 (edited) Indeed, great job ED. The Release of Cliffs of Dover shows me that it is not a naturalness to have a pretty much bug free Product from the beginning. i am very glad to supported you. Edited April 8, 2011 by amigastar
ScEBlack1 Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Wags I forgot to do this can I delete it after I am all patched up as well with things ok?? "For Windows 7 users, look in your /Users/(name)/Saved Games/ and delete the A-10C folder."
Nate--IRL-- Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Wags I forgot to do this can I delete it after I am all patched up as well with things ok?? "For Windows 7 users, look in your /Users/(name)/Saved Games/ and delete the A-10C folder." You can delete it any time you need. If something breaks with your installation deleting this folder is one of the first things to do. Note that doing this will delete all settings and revert DCS back to its default state. Ah.. yeah I have a quad core processor and my video card has only been released for a month. I have many many sims and games that run fine, including ARMA II etc. I'm just saying I'm waiting until this is playable without bugs or performance hindering my experience. I can get past a lot of things and I do, but some of the bugs just really take away from the experience. Not the type of bugs a real pilot would encounter with the systems either.

I'm running A10 on a standard HDD on a 1920x1080 TV with most settings on high without the issues you are seeing. *the SSD in my sig has my OS and Black Shark on it. Sarge55 Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 I initially just updated with 1.1.0.7 just to try it out, the experience was less than stellar, FPS dropped, stutters ... blah blah blah... I then did the full procedure as recommended and the sim runs like a charm, better FPS, no stutters (which I didn't have before either), don't even get the freeze with the first explosion (at least not yet). So it's worth it to do the proper update. Every one's set up is different but if you don't follow the steps, then you guarentee you'll have problems. ttaylor0024 Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 I had my plane spontaneously combust a few times tonight... Once when I was taxing, and the 2nd when i was on my final approach about 4 miles out. Just, "BOOM". Scared the crap out of me both times!
hassata Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Don't think anyone has mentioned it yet, but the early Christmas Tree lighting ceremony whenever engines were started in a mild breeze bug has been apparently squashed. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Akilez Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Pardon my density but where can this patch be found?
hassata Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Depending on which version you have installed: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/patches/ Or even better, uninstall, delete the directory, delete [YourName]/Saved Games/DCS Folder, defrag, http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?scr=product&ProductId=8&end_pos=135&lang=en, defrag again.
