Can anyone identify the type of the downed chopper? I have never seen a tail like this before

These could have always been doctored photos I presume...but it would suprise me if the seals had a more covert low observeable version of the MH-60 for use in situations like this. I will admit I have scoured the net as well and have not come across anything like it so far. The spec ops guys do get some pretty cool toys though.

I would think that if it was a highly secretive version that they would have taken care to destroy the aircraft a little better though

My 2 cents:

I don't believe putting Osama on trial in a military court would have EVER happened. One of the cornerstones of US law is the right to a fair trial. Someone please tell me where he would receive a fair trial. Certainly nowhere in the US. I also agree with those that say all taking him alive would have done was invite more September 11th-type attacks. Although, killing him may do the same. Time will tell. Do I think he deserved to die? Absolutely. Osama was near the top of a short list of those who could best serve the world by leaving it. Just my opinion, folks.

It's not the fall that gets you. It's the Godawful sudden stop at the end.

I would think the point would be to destroy the technology inside rather than the aircraft as a whole. I could be wrong though....

I am sure that would be the primary concern of course. But if it's purpose was for low observability and it was coated with a RAM material than I would think they would want to protect that too. And obviously, no one seems to know anything about it right now(hence all the questions) ;), so I would think maybe keeping it a secret would be in our best interests. But maybe it wasn't a big secret after all?

It was just a regular U.S. Army MH-60, likely a Mike model (MH-60M) but it could have been a "K".

Uh-60 has only 4 blades in main rotor, in the pic it seems it has more than that.

Hence AlphaOneSix's comment that the pics are not that of the aircraft that had a hard landing at Osama's compound.

The statement that the chopper was shot down seems to be wrong, as it is said it experienced mechanical failure before the firefight broke out.

Even my first comment on the pic was same, seemed nothing like a downed A/C.

It seemed too funny to me, you are in a secret mission and want to make a surprise attack, and what a surprise to you, land hard in on his A*s. ;)

Sure, when they are carried around by the Navy they fly in the HH-60H, but in this case they were carried by the 160th SOAR of the U.S. Army.

Just went to the page where those three pics came from (dailymail.co.uk)

This is the only picture there that looks like it's the actual aircraft. As you can see, not much left of it. NOTE: I do not know for sure that even this is the actual aircraft, but it's certainly more believable than the other pics in that dailymail story.

Post#2 of this thread warned to refrain from politics/content with political connotations. Discuss the event, people. I'm getting tired of hovering over this thread, watching over people who seem to be repeatedly ignoring requests for a civil discussion.

Discuss the Military Operation and attendant events if you will as some participants to this thread have done without resorting to sometimes callous, crass or otherwise irrelevant remarks. If you cannot then refrain from posting further.

Last Chance.

Whatever that helo was they made damn sure to destroy and smash everything they could find, but forgot the tail! Note the lack of markings, rivets, inspection hatches etc. Smaller tail rotor with more blades, forward swept tail plane, rotor head cover, definitely has stealthy characteristics. Probably took some of the funding/development from the Comanche.

You think maybe two of these stealth helos came in first and dropped off the assault team, then the Chinooks came in and dropped off the perimeter guards/CIA intel guys? Would make sense since those CH47s would of been heard coming from a good ways off.

Now someone needs to put out a freedom of information act request and see what we get out of it.

I`m surprised to see this thread is still open. Exactly what aspect of the death of one man, even if he is Bin Laden, is being discussed here? The forum rules clearly say: no political disputes yet this thread is going for 19+ pages. Mods?

You need to change your settings if you see 19 pages, I get 5 pages. Try showing 40 post per page instead of the default.

@ Viper, maybe it is time to lock this thread.

Kind of annoying when people are whining for mods to lock a thread. If you don't like it then stop reading it?

You call it righteous, but it most certainly always ends up being self-righteous.

More people were and are killed in these three wars than all kills summed up by Saddam, Laden and Qaddafi.

Yes, and alot of them had it coming. Not counting innocent civilian acciental deaths, a good majority of people killed were up to no good and diametrically opposed to liberal democracy. Again, these people had it coming.

Well I guess that yet again the request for 'Discuss the event and no irrelevant, off-topic posts' fell on deaf ears.....

Pity.
