cichlidfan Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 its beautiful , but I dont need a bomb range. Now if it were Iran , Iraq or somewhere real ... Not a sandbox to play in Id be more interested. I am fine with the sanbox, especially since I have never flown over Nevada (maybe in a commercial jet at 7mi up), or Afganistan, etc., so I won't know the difference. If they made it so you could modify the names of any cities or whatever in the Mission Editor... As far as I know, our current map could be entirely made up I have never checked) aside from the fact that I recognize the names of some of the locations it is just a map. Everyone will do what they want in the still distant future but I will probably buy it just to have another map to fly in...or on... Frostiken Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 For what it's worth, the terrain around Bagram AB looks exactly like Nellis, complete with that big mountain. In fact it looks almost exactly like it, to the extent that we'd joke that Vegas was just on the other side. But okay, yeah, it's *just* Bagram. Paulkrkiii's probably been to Kandahar so maybe some insights there, but IIRC Kandahar is a bit flatter (Bagram is nestled in the mountains at higher altitude). I think the terrain in Afghanistan is a bit more rugged in the Hindu-Kush but aside from that, I consider having a fully-developed Las Vegas to be a huge bonus, as we already have small towns full of small buildings. Some developed-looking stuff to do some damage to would be nice :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

I like the idea of staging training in phases building up to a mission where my squad deploys to take care of business. We would have CAGs come into Fallon, NV. for phased training in preparation for deployment. Think of the A-10C adventures we could write!!! With the KA-50 joining as a coalition asset the stories of adventure are limitless! [sIGPIC]https://drive.google.com/file/d/16rUBmmJR7A3YGZVGPGskxG1XtvulGojJ/view?usp=sharing[/sIGPIC]

Tone71 Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 You know, just because it *says* Nevada doesn't mean you can't just pretend it's any other sandy wasteland... saying "I can't play on this map because it's not a real life conflict location!" is pretty disrespectful of the work being done on it, not to mention it makes you sound ungrateful as hell. +1 1 Windows 10 Home, Intel Core i7-9700K @ 4.6GHz, Gigabyte GTX 1070 G1 Gaming (8GB VRAM) on 34" LG curved monitor @ 3440x1440, 32GB RAM, TrackIR 3 (with Vector Expansion), Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS, Saitek Combat Pedals, Thrustmaster Cougar MFDs.

Cibit Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 I would struggle to upload it for you mate. Its pretty big. I wonder if I could find a way of transporting the map into my current version? then create a mod. Smokin Hole Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Any computer that could run the Beta Nevada map smoothly, particularly over the city, could also be used to test nuclear weapons. I am glad ED pulled it and gave it another year.
Paco Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 While the terrain looks stunning and I can already imagine what it will be like to fly over that, especially with the new cockpit shading. Cool. But I'm still trying to wrap my head around why Nevada? If work is going to be done by anybody on a whole new terrain, why not make it an area with relevance(Afghan, Lybia, etc.)? Seems like kind of a waste to have it just for training stuff and it would be hard to swallow some kind of fantasy conflict taking place on US soil, let alone out in the Nevada desert. I guess mission/campaign builders can pretend it's Afghanistan/Pakistan or something, I hope. Why Nevada? I fine this thread interesting and I'd like to add my two cents. After flight simming for many years with Falcon and now DCS, and five actual combat deployments, for once I'd like to "fly" over an area where I can pronounce the names of the cities. Another interesting note. Several years back in preparation for my first Afghan deployment, I attended a course where about 60 of us ran a virtual air war based out of the island nation of "Pacifica". The nation of "Nevida" invaded the other nation on the island "Califon". You guessed it, the USAF took that section of the United States, made it an island on maps, etc and used that as an basis for the campaign. It was brilliant, we could use existing imagery, maps, etc. It also negated that the politically incorrect implication we were planning to invade a country had we used Ukraine for example. Anyway, looking forward to Nevada when it comes out. Any chance we could get Ft Irwin and the NTC area? /r, Paco
SmokeyTheLung Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Can I post it to you on a disc/s it will only cost you a holiday for 2 in the Big Apple:) Unfortunately given the nature of apartment living, I'm afraid house guests are out of the question. Zorg_DK Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 I haven't touched A-10C for a while but Nevada is definitely going to be an interesting re-visit. Just a shame it won't be released until end of 2011. Doing training scenarios doesn't sound that hot since most people have already mastered the Hog by then. Also Nevada in the beta was too small. I agree with what another poster mentioned, I would have preferred if the current map was expanded. Refueling is pointless on the current map we have. Enough rant, thumbs up to ED for keep on developing. And I do look forward to flying somewhere new. sobek Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Refueling is pointless on the current map we have. Only under the condition of flying straight... Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
