How long did it take you to learn the A10?

Yes about a week for startup and ordanance usage. But i've been flying this since October 2010 and I am to this day still learning different procedures of weapons employment. The CBU itself has so many settings for different types of spread it takes awhile to learn what setting will work on whether you have a convoy, the spread of the convoy vehicles.....its info overload all the time and it comes to how you manage it all. The CDU itself is so powerful i'd bet most people don't even use 10% of its capabilities. Enjoy its a long road to perfection.

Well, I've had A10C for about a week now. I've got my G940 set up, track IR is working, and the sim is running pretty stable on my old cpu. I can take off and land no problems. I've run through a few of the training missions a few times. Dropped a few bombs, straffed a few tanks, and now it's back to square one.....Basic Navigation and Systems.....I'll check back in a few months... :D

A week or less. The CDU is the big one. I know all of the sys pages and nearly everything else. If anything I can figure it out just be looking at it thanks to prior knowledge.

IMHO, flying the A-10C is easy. Trying to avoid SAMs and fighters is the tricky part. :P

To be honest been here since the beta and I still have stuff to learn. I guess the answer is still learning :).

Anyone who says they have mastered this sim is hugely exaggerating. Had this since last september and flown at least once a day 6 days a week, Still learning new stuff every flight:thumbup:

Still learning and enjoying it more every flight, that IMHO, is why I believe this Sim is such an exceptional value for the number of gameplay hours alone.

"A week". Please.

3 months to know every system and fight it effectively in every situation. Includes cold startup, all nav modes including ILS, tanking, all modes of the CDU, all weapons systems, hung stores procedures.

"A week". Pull the other one.

In all honesty, it probably took me a week just to digest enough of the manual (and the forum) to get a clear idea of how I want to layout the controls on my stick (so they made sense).

I spent two days doing nothing but landing (something like 60 plus landings). A touch of OCD is helpful here.

Luckily, I am OK with going at it slowly.

Most of this stuff is easy to pick up and the OP said systems not the whole sim. Yeah I have tight grip on the system, so much so that the non-user would say I've mastered it. The only thing I haven't mastered are dealing with fighters and air defenses. I am having problems with LGB employment with the ASL not showing up when its supposed to (although I suspect a bug).

I may have been a bit optimisitc when I said "a week or less" (I don't know how long really), but I know I'm no longer learning how to use absolutely everything in the cockpit.

I am a rookie and have been playing/ setting up my system for 3 weeks. I feel more comfortable each day but I have a feeling even a real life A-10C pilot will tell you that you NEVER stop learning when it comes to flying combat aircraft.

5 hours. Previous experience helps :P

Although to be fair, it probably wasn't mastery. I was able to operate and understand almost all systems by that time to reasonable depth. After that you probably need a couple weeks to get really deep into it, assuming you go at it slowly.

I find you pick things up pretty quick ( weapons deployment and things like that ) if you've had previous simulation experience. It took me about a month before I was confident to take it into actual combat but I'm still learning new things now, little tricks in the system and so on.

You will never stop learning.

+1

I also have been flying Falcon for the last 6 years. And to this day I still learn something and forget two items of knowledge each time I fly online.

DCS A10 is a lot more complex.......And I've not yet started online :helpsmilie:

Except the odd test flight!

Forgot to add that I've had the sim since beta 4. The 185th? If that's the one with 'Ghostrider' in then I used to be a member back when I flew F4:AF, good bunch of lads.

It took me a month to get up and going with the basics:

A week to go through the manual, another week to sit in the cockpit, learn the startup and shutdown procedures, and learn the CDU/DSMS/TGP basics, etc. Another week of learning to fly the plane: takeoffs, pattern and landings, plus maneuvers, stalls, emergency procedures, etc. Then a fourth week to start learning the weapons systems and how to employ them, as well as attack profiles, etc.

THEN I was ready to take the plane out and start doing some training practice missions. I spent a few weeks going through each weapon system individually, practicing dropping/shooting them on dummy targets.

I didn't try my hand at "live" combat until I was at least 2 months in. There's a lot to learn with this beast, but having that solid knowledge of all the systems and procedures made it SOOO rewarding when I finally was able to put it all together!

And I still get plenty of practice with emergency procedures, both intentionally and not. :smilewink:
