ALDEGA
Excellent comparison PeterP.Now, remove all structures and rivers from DCS and try again...;)Outerra's terrain looks great, but it's empty (except for trees). DCS' terrain itself doesn't look very good but it has many objects (roads, rivers, railroads, bridges, towns, etc.). Both terrain and objects are important. Impact
Of course, that would mean at least three different incompatible maps...the current one (that is not going to be done in EDGE according to ED), Nevada with EDGE, and then a new map under Outerra (who knows how long that will take). What is EDGE? ------=:: I FLY BLEIFREI ::=------
sobek
What is EDGE? The new terrain engine in development for Nevada. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!

sobek
AeroFly: Makes dcs and other sim engines look like stone age tehnology... Oh really? Ever tried flying in overcast conditions inAeroFly? Or at night? Or at anytime other than 12:00? Whoops... Sure ED could have tuned their engine to do but one lighting condition really really well, instead they opted to make it capable of depicting a variety of conditions, at the cost of them looking less realistic than a specialized engine such as the one of Aero Fly. Maybe you should consider things like these before trying to put DCS in a bad light. ;) Edited March 13, 2012 by sobek Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! element1108
AeroFly: Makes dcs and other sim engines look like stone age tehnology... http://www.aeroflyfs.com/index.php/en/everything-about-aereoflyfs/overview.html -haukka81 Is there anything else in AeroFly to do other than look out the window in a frozen moment in time? no and while I'm at it there are no targets to kill, no AI to calculate, no weapons modeling etc. I'm not knocking AeroFly, it's a very nice looking flight experience no doubt, but come on. The two games offer completely different gameplay experiences and that is directly proportional to it's visual style and it's engine capabilities. There is more to a flight sim than graphics. That said, I guess the best way to really compare engines is to compare what each flight sim is capable of doing. A more adequate comparison IMHO would be RISE OF FLIGHT's engine or perhaps CLIFFS of DOVER. But what do I know, I hate comparing apples to oranges or apples to other apples. The strengths and weaknesses of each seem to somehow balance the playing field so there is no one dominant game engine. If it were that easy, there would BE only one game engine. I've already said too much, bed time ;)

112th_Rossi
The problem with Outerra, is that its procedurally generated. Which makes multiplayer a bit of a headache to say the least.
cameni
The problem with Outerra, is that its procedurally generated. Which makes multiplayer a bit of a headache to say the least. That's a common misconception: procedural doesn't mean random. It's still strongly deterministic and doesn't depend on anything changing in time and in between computers. Nobody96
Also, if it is indeed random, the server could roll the dice and provide the results to its clients. so long Mathias My System: Intel Core i7-4770K, Asus ROG Strix RX480 O8G, 24GB Ram
