**UPDATE**

Voiceover volume level fixed!

In this tutorial, I go over the HSI, TACAN navigation, and the ILS. Some of it is repetative from my TACAN tutorial, but thought I would include it all in one video.

Good Job:thumbup:

I thought about making one of these videos to go along with my ILS missions, no need now excellent:)

That was a sweet vid, but my only gripe was that I had a hard time hearing you over the plane. Maybe it's just my aging ears. That pitch black landing was sweet, though! Did you make a custom mission, or are some airports just not always lit up like Christmas trees?

I just changed the weather to full on cloudy night, with major fog on the ground. The lights are there, you just can't see most of them! Sorry about the audio level--I'll be sure to fix that on the next go around.

Nice vid. Lots of good info. However there is a problem with it in that you are using the yellow steering bars... these are not working properly and should not be used for ILS. They should be stowed.

The steering bars/command bar/flight director bars are not currently steering/commanding or directing, they are repeating the gs/loc. If they were working correctly the pilot simply centers the steering bars, manouvering to keep them centered, and it's easy as pie to fly a very accurate ILS right down the loc and slope.

Hmm. Amazing I made it to the runway in zero visibility if they were "broken". They most definately are directing me somewhere. Maybe you're confused because I didn't have them centered most of the time--was trying to illustrate a point. However, I've done dozens of ILS approaches riding the cross all the way to the threshold. Pretty sure the latest patch fixed all the ILS issues--could be mistaken.

In any event, the tutorial is still useful, as it is all still relevant, whether the bars are directing properly or not.

The tutorial is useful. I did several ILS to minimums today irl. I'm not confused. The bars are still broken in .8. See the thread above.

The tutorial is useful but if you are using the yellow bars for steering you are developing a bad habit, and that will create problems as soon as the developers fix the bug (which is still there btw). Since there is a bug for the moment when you fly an ILS approach you should only use the triangle on the left of the ADI (glideslope) and the HSI (localizer).

Good point Blackrazor I personally like to see them appear as it means I done it right:) However I always just use my HSI/ADI for navigation, proof that sometimes fools are correct:thumbup:

Hmm, I don't understand? I've been using the yellow bars just fine for my approaches? that said I 've used them as a rough guide then I fly the final 50 or so feet with my eyes....

I'm now responding in the thread referenced--just posted this:

Hi guys--been looking into this--it seems to be working ok to me, at least in reference to the latest manual out with 1108. There is no reference to "command bars" or "flight director mode" (there is a flight director mode in the Ka-50). Maybe there was some "flight director" reference in an older version of manual? I think the problem with this thread was that the author was working with a broken ILS at the time of posting, or the manual at the time was poorly written. In any event, I'm not sure what the statement "You should be able to center them immediately by just changing the pitch/bank" means, or how it is different than how it currently works--as indeed, you roll and pitch to center the bars. Gonna post a video in a minute--comments, critisism welcome, as I'm not a real pilot, and could most definately be wrong about this.

BBQ,

Lobo is right about this. The flight director doesn't work correctly. You wrote;

"You should be able to center them immediately by just changing the pitch/bank" means, or how it is different than how it currently works--as indeed, you roll and pitch to center the bars."

The bars should move instantly as soon as you change pitch/bank angle. They command required bank and pitch. That's why its called a flight director...

"It's not the years, honey. It's the mileage..."

It's all explained in this thread:

Cheers

Ah cheers, so they're a loose guide to intercepting the glide slope, at which point you use theHSI and triangle on the ADI?

I did a search in the manual for "flight director" and it came up with not a single instance. Can someone point me in the right direction for more info on the flight director?

OMG, I cant remember exactly how long ago it was when I purchased this sim, but since then I have been patient and trying to learn, my 1st mistake was trying to learn using the training missions, I spent so much time trying to figure out what I was doing wrong, only to find out there were bugs. patch 8 came out and I went back at it,,, banging my head yet again,, only to find out still more bugs. I try to find time to sift through the forums and still squeeze in some flying time. For 2 weeks i have been trying to get a grip on navigation and landing using instruments,, seems Im always getting into trouble somewere? I read this thread as an example, I appreciate the support, but man,, im getting more stupid! I cant follow the feedback as there are opposing thoughts. I will remain patient and hope the next patch deals with the bugs so I can then continue to follow the training instructions.
