Hi all,

received my wh some days ago and first I was impressed about this stuff. After flying modded Cougar for years the WH is an impressive development.

But there is one issue I noticed. It was possible to twist the stick about one cm to the left and right.

I think Frazor picture of the disassambed stick could explain why (Frazer, hope it`s ok to use your pic!):

The read piece seems to have to much play in the green space and may cause the twisting.

Can anybody confirm this?

I find this a little bit annoying.

TM hotline told me that`s normal. Should not be in my opinion.

Cheers

Shark

33rd_Shark, the twist is normal, but not the amount you are describing.

My Warthog twists about 2-3mm in the Z-axis. This movement is essentially an inevitable consequence of the design and typically occurs when I press the master mode button (the force required to push the button induces torque). Other users have reported similar experiences. I personally find it has no ill-effects on the Warthog's performance.

A twist of 10mm seems really excessive. Does it move 10mm easily and loosely, or is that the amount it moves when you really try to force it? In order to get mine to move by that much I would really have to twist it hard.

Are you sure your Warthog stick moves 10mm? I'm sorry to ask, but that's a pretty large amount. If it does indeed move that much loosely and easily I think you might have a defect somewhere in the ball and socket. On the other hand, if it typically moves <5mm and only moves 10mm when you force it, I think its performance is acceptable.

By the way, when I first noticed the Z-axis twist I couldn't stop thinking about it because I didn't like the idea of any movement. I found I would constantly twist the stick to see how 'bad' it was, which ultimately was sort of like picking at a scab. I got over it eventually and now I don't notice it anymore. I'm not saying this is necessarily the case for you, but I personally found the movement wasn't as bad as I thought it was.

First of all - measuring twist in cm is just... wrong. Degrees is what you want to make a precise description of what's happening. CM's and MMs can literally mean anything depending on where you look along the axis.

THe illustrations shown look, to me, to have nothing to do at all with what you are experiencing. If you have "centimetres" of twist in there, the "red piece" would be irrelevant. Again though, radians are necessary to establish that, not centimetres on some arbitrary axis lenght.

Mine moves a good cm too measured from the tip of the front of the stick itself (above the trigger).

Nice plane on that gun...

This is exactly what I measured. Back home I will try to measure what that means in degrees.

Properely constructed, there should not be any twisting at all. There may no negative influence in steering beahaviour but it gives me a bad feeling.

The old Cougar partly sucks in another way (centre play etc.) but had no twisting.

My Warthog Stick does not twist at all. At least I did not notice it so far. Also when pressing the MMCB the stick stays solid.

You're right. The twist in my stick is ~5° (measured pretty carefully using paper, a ruler, a protractor and the circular throttle base as a guide).

That's if I gently force it by the way; in normal use it will only move 1°, maybe 2° at most, and even then it only happens sporadically when I press the Master Mode Control Button. It's a very small amount and negligible in my opinion.

I get about a 1 degree turn in mine but didn't notice it until I read this thread. I'll keep on eye on it to see if it gets any greater.

Mine moves a couple of degrees too. I agree, it doesn't feel right, it leaves an impression of a somewhat sloppy design and large tolerances.

But, when that is said, I quickly stopped noticing it when using it, and it has no effect whatsoever on my crappy flying. Infact it might just help a bit:joystick: :D

Mine came with the twist, it has not worsened with use, and I have read similar reports from other people, so I take the small movement to be a consequence of the design.

I think some sticks have a small amount of twist and others will have a slightly larger amount, but all will twist to some degree if you force them. A lot of people won't even notice it until you mention it.

As I said previously, in my experience it does not negatively affect the Warthog's performance in any detectable way, and with you time you forget it even occurs.

Mine only twist if i force it... Sometimes it may happen in an intesive moment...but my mind is so concentrated elsewhere i don t notice.

It may not be a design issue but simply have to do with the natural flexibility of the material connecting each part, remembet the handle can be disconnected.

Mine is solid and doesn't twist at all.... I never thought to check this until this topic came up. Is the ring that holds the stick to the base loose or something? That may cause it to twist if it's not tight.

Don't over-tighten though, of course...

Yesterday I disassembled my stick and it`s not the ring. The twisting is bw the inner and outer ball as I mentioned in my first post.

I think the best way to handle with it (apart from that this is not completely satisfying).

I only hope that the twisting will not increase.

I have a few degrees of "play" in mine, too.

Let me know if it is or becomes excessive (i.e. sloppy) and I'll pass this on to the right folks.
