one of the worst katastrophes happened in Norway, a extreme right-wing person assassinated 85 youths in a camp of the social democrats.

I am really shocked by this horrifying news, I want to say how I feel sorry for the victims, their families and all of you wonderful people in this country I really love.

from Germany,

I detest this kind of acts.

I hope those responsible together with their organizations will get what they deserve.

Why do people do this kind of thing.

My thoughts go out to Norway.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

Absolutely tragic. It is those left behind that will suffer most, and I hope they get the justice they deserve.

I know politics is not allowed, but I am absolutely not surprised if such organizations after lessons of WW2 are allowed to exist and even supported.

I think the problem is that if you quell them then you have another fascist regime. The human condition does have its implications. When will people stop killing one another!

This is indeed unbelievable, I couldnt believe my eyes when I read the initial reports from the bombing in Oslo yesterday. Last night the police confirmed that seven people had been killed in Oslo, and nine or ten people had been killed at Utøya, so it was quite a shock to hear that at least 80 people had been killed at Utøya when I woke up this morning. The number of people killed at Utøya has now reached at least 85...

My thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones and those who escaped from Utøya, it seems as though everybody knows some one who was at Utøya.

I believe the whole of Norway is in shock after this. It is unthinkable that this could happen in Norway at this scale. I'm not directly affected since I don't know any of the victims in person, but I'm quite affected as a Norwegian by these terror acts which were done in such a horrible, inhuman way. I am lost with words describing what has happened in Oslo and on Utøya.

My deepest condolences to the victims and their families, and a deep gratitude from the bottom of my heart to everyone involved with the rescue operations.

I just read that it took police 90 minutes to get to the island. They didn't have helicopters and it took the police twenty minutes to find a boat! What?

ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

Sounds more like post-soviet country, not Norway...

Norway is small country in terms of population. Less than 5 million? Their resources will be limited.

Well, Norway is a vast country with a small population. Likewise double the size of Germany, but only one 17th of the Population. My daughter had an accident in Norway 2 Years ago, and we had to travel 100 Miles to get to the Next "legecenter", so you just have large distances to travel. Another thing is, until now nothing of this tragic dimension ever happened in Norway After ww2.

It remembers me of the disaster at the olympic games in Munich 1972 where nobody was prepared to such a crime. The worst thing that occured in Norway were the Church burnings at the beginning of the 90ies, i believe...

I wouldn't be one bit surprised if the same thing happened in my country, Thailand, but I pictured Norway as a developed country and was shocked when I read that.

BBC:

Mr Sponheim confirmed that the maximum time Mr Breivik could face in prison under Norwegian law is 21 years.

I'd just come on to quote that too! How can somebody responsible for so many deaths walk free after 21 years?! He'll get out when he's just over 50 with a long life ahead of him....He should never walk free again. The death penalty would be too lenient.

The maximum prison sentence in Norway is, as you say, 21 years. But people who pose a threat to society may be held indefinite, its been done before, and will probably be the case with Breivik as well.
