Would you care to elaborate? Nobody else seems to have an issue.

What conditions are you finding your speed brakes don't slow you down? How about posting a track and providing enough details so people can see your problem and help you with it.

They are not the size of a football field. And they don't defeat earths gravity either. So dont expect them to slow you down if you dive 80 degree.

Who said anything about an 80 degree dive?

When I'm coming in on final and when I touch down, I use them and they don't seem to affect my speed at all. I mainly deploy them after I land, but they don't really slow me. I just have to use my wheel brakes.

Untick the 'GAME FLIGHT MODE and/or 'GAME AVIONICS MODE' check-boxes in the SP GUI/Options/Gameplay screen. If already done and you're on SIM mode, then kindly post a track.

The speed brakes dont have that much affect on t dwn

Its not reverse thrust.

Actually, they do have a pretty big effect, but in that scenario you'll only see the effect if you do a direct comparison between two landings. I'll see if I can make a track set to show this.

Nobody knows what speed hes deploying them at.

Thats my point

He cannot touch down at a speed at which they are -not- effective. They are enormously effective, relieving the wheelbrakes of several million foot-pounds of absorbed energy, and this is reflected in the sim as well.

If you brake without the speedbrakes after landing, your rollout will be longer; alternalively, your landing gear will explode, though I don't know how well this is modeled in DCS.

I've got a video of it loading, but it's taking ages. However, the results are as follows:

Landing at Batumi, clean bird, full fuel, landing at 115knots. In both cases the landing roll takes the whole runway, BUT:

Aerobrakes fully extended: crossing numbers at 38knots.

Aerobrakes not deployed: crossing numbers at 62knots.

Essentially, with aerobrakes deployed, I can just nudge the wheelbrakes and I'll be set. With aerobrakes retracted I'd have to use the wheelbrakes hard.

Which can actually be deadly in RL: If you turn around to take off again, overheated (and now uncooled) brakes can cause the wheels to explode: Not the tyres, because they're actually quite tough. Rather the bolts holding the two halves of the rim together will weaken and come apart.

This can cause severe damage to the aircraft or, if the aircraft is parked, it could literally cut someone in half if they're close by.

The above obviously are N/A DCS but ... maybe at some point.

The point is: MINIMIZE wheelbrake use.

I so hope it will get simulated at some point. I suspect a LOT of people would get surprised that their slam-down at 150knots and max wheelbrakes doesn't work well anymore. :P

Slam down at 150Kts, full wheelbrakes. Fail to pull into hot-brake area and leave the bird. Rearm, refuel, take off inside say, 10 min. 10-30 min later, while in the air ... BANG!

Confused pilot . o O (where'd all these fires come from? What hit me?! ... I'm gonna go post about this huge random explosion/damage bug on the ED forum!)

In fact, expect your wing to come off > 330 KIAs with the brakes open wide..

Always deploy speed brakes with throttle at idle, or else what do you expect? They are very effective at bleeding speed. I use them when doing combat landings very effectively.

The speed brakes shouldn't even open all the way at those speeds.

To whom it may concern; just you let you know, I can deploy my speed brakes, but they don't actually slow me down.

Have you deployed them fully? It's not a toggle switch. You need to hold the B (or HOTAS) key till they are fully deployed. See if that helps. Check F2 view to see what I mean.
