ED Team NineLine Posted February 19, 2014 ED Team Posted February 19, 2014 If FSX could do it 10 years ago, I'm sure there's a way- even sucky collision models where a whole forest is rendered as 1 piece would be better than this silly X-planish arcade model. I love the sim, don't get me wrong. But how can they model every switch in the cockpit, but you can fly through trees as if they weren't even there. Even war thunder can do it If you read what you just said, you answered your own question... Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**
The_Pharoah Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 (edited) Well I know ED are working hard on this but we definitely need the Nevada map, just to get the community back into DCS. The pics/vids that were posted (by Wags I think) looked pretty good. I'm spending most of my time in fast movers anyway so I'm not too fussed about the lack of a collision model for trees, but I can understand re KA50 pilots. What would be great is the ability to have a Kiowa (Bell OH58 ) which has a mast mounted sight so that it could scout ahead, hover so that only its sight is visible, mark the loc of enemy SAMs/AAA/etc and pass these coordinates on to the waiting KA50s (or even A10s if that data link is possible). That would definitely fill the gap if you know what I mean. Edited February 19, 2014 by The_Pharoah OH58 not OH5smileyface! FlyNate Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 hows about getting rid of Las Vegas and changing the landscape to resemble Iraq or Afghanistan? maybe that might save on dev time. I agree. I fly A-10C and I think Red Flag would be loads of fun, especially in multiplayer if we had someone to play AWACS. I'll be honest though, I'd much rather have Iraq. It opens up opportunities for many mission types, Desert Storm, OIF, and even fictional scenarios. Afghanistan would be great as well. We could make real, modern missions and again there are countless fictional scenarios to be played. That would be fun in Black Shark or MI8 too, even the upcoming F/A-18. I'm kind of confused as to why this wasn't done from the start, or at least planned. Anyone know why? Has this even been considered? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Trooper117 Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Has anyone ever mentioned the possibility of a Korea map and the aircraft to fly on it?
FlyNate Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 (edited) Has anyone ever mentioned the possibility of a Korea map and the aircraft to fly on it? To be honest, considering the time it has taken to make Nevada, I fear that may be all we will ever have, and Georgiia. I would be happy just to have the original LockOn map reworked and added to the Georgia map. Unfortunately, if Nevada ever does come out, it would take several more years to see any other maps if we see any more at all. Just an assumption but if anyone has the inside scoop on map plans, I'm all ears... Edited February 20, 2014 by FlyNate [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Its been said over and over that the Map was only a part of the timeline, that the Engine creation has been more of what has taken time. So we need to stop with the silly assumptions, this is why they are less inclined to share info, and why they have moved more towards Valve type announcements instead of sharing little tidbits with us here and there. Trust me... everything is moving, maybe not as fast as we all want... but they are moving. Once EDGE is in place, mapping should be quicker depending on the size and quality of course. FlyNate Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 (edited) I did not know that, that's why I asked. And if they would post more updates more often, people would be less inclined to make "silly assumptions." It's a cycle that has to be broken so I guess I understand. I don't have the time to read all 400 pages of this topic, but I follow as best I can. I hope it's worth the wait. It would be nice to have four, five, or maybe even more maps to choose from in the future. Thanks for the info. Any idea if they plan to incorporate the area of the original LockOn map? Anything would be great though. Edited February 20, 2014 by FlyNate [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Reading through the forums for the last year, I get the impression that the passion of the community for the game is misinterpreted as moaning and complaining when all they want is information to keep the game rolling ever onwards. Edit: FlyNate beat me to it! 1

I am pleased with it, and it blows the original LockOn away, but many of us certainly would like current info that is updated regularly. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Edit: FlyNate beat me to it! There is a fine line between passion and complaining it seems. You can look at most EDGE screenshot updates and see a good amount of people complaining about intangibles. It has to get tiring as the ED Team to be excited about sharing something only to have it torn down, and most times in unreasonable ways. Sure in the long run its us that suffer, but it only takes a few bad eggs to ruin it for everyone else... its just the way it is. This will be my final post on it for the threat of derailing the topic. I can see it from that standpoint, but if you take my statistics into account, I don't post that often but check the forums everyday and look at threads such as the screenshot update and others and I am always impressed. Don't forget that the vocal element doesn't necessarily represent a large portion of the community. If you wish to continue the discussion I will happily do so in PM.

I to would love to see more updates, but pretty much what Sith says is spot on. As hard as it is for me say it, I really cant blame Matt & ED for not sharing new info. Early on Wags would share screenies and there were some that couldn't wrap their brain about WIP and became very critical of what was being shown, spoiling updates for the rest of us. I do feel some surprises are not too far off though. Trooper117 Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Flight simmers are a demanding crowd... it's the same on all flight sim forums for all the different games out there... but I think it's because most people are so passionate about their hobby. I'm sure all developers out there know that as well, and have grown accustomed to our 'demanding wants' :) The majority of us post with a well meaning intention, plus sometimes posts can be misinterpreted (it's the internet, lol!) but there is that small minority that can be a bit over the top it has to be said... 1
FlyNate Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 (edited) Try looking at post 1. Notice the line in post 1 that says: "None of this is 100% official..." And also, notice the date. All I'm saying is how about some official info and updates to satisfy people? Some official info would be nice, and I don't want to have to interpret what I think may happen by reading thru all of the "silly assumptions" and a non official post from several years ago. Communication is key, and new customers join the DCS community all the time and end up just as interested in DCS as the older guys. No doubt they have created a wonderful sim. But let's see some new info in regular official updates, because I doubt (like myself) that they will read through a 400 page conversation between hundreds of people just to see how many more years they will have to wait for another map. I think that might cure the "silly assumption" issue you are having. Then you would simply have questions, and again, they would be answered regularly. Often moaning and groaning IS misinterpreted, but the customer is always right, and all we want is info on a game that we gladly build cockpits for, share our own notes, and spend money on. Many of us are building cockpits in our homes because we finally have the the software capable of an accurate military aircraft, and some official news on progress would be nice. That's all I meant by that. No need to talk down to anyone  Edited February 20, 2014 by FlyNate [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
