Insanatrix Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 As much I can understand you and some others that have this kind of agenda... But I also share the opinion that a software-company is no charity project. And if they make a decision - it their decision -Point- I actually have no agenda. You make it sound like I woke up and decided to hate ED today. I'm appalled. 1

LostOblivion Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 I do not mind giving ED 20 bucks for these upgrades, but let me clarify that what I, personally are paying for is the improved Black Shark and MP compat, not the upgrades to the engine, so stating they are part of the product seemed wrong to me. I agree completely with the guys in here saying a better solution to modularisation should be found. The most logical solution I can personally think of, is a system where customers pay for a single product, DCS, and that they may buy additional vehicle modules as they are released in a similar fashion to what ROF used to be. Buying the initial DCS product would be accompanied with any one of the modules, and upgrades to existing modules, e.g., BS2 should indeed be purchasable. This is how it is today, pretty much, but without the essential centralization around a single DCS product. Instead of having several installs, there should only be one. Thanks for the upgrade, ED! Cheers. Nice plane on that gun... OS764 P930@4 MBUD3R M6GB G5870 SSDX25 CAntec1200 HTMHW
PeterP Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 I actually have no agenda. You make it sound like I woke up and decided to hate ED today. I'm appalled. My deepest apologies if this isn't the case when you answered me "Trust me that's not why you want to read through it." So please send me the links which posts I should read in a PM - and I will also comment on them if you wish. LosT_SouL_VL Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 20$ for the BS2 upgrade.. I didn't think twice prior to buying, DCS is always good value for money. So price is for me no issue. But what is not to be accepted is that if you buy legally the BS2 upgrade that you can't install the game because of a installer glitch, if you can't install you can't play... So this is not a minor glitch but a major one. Also deleting a finetuned and modded BS1 1.02 installation and then reinstalling it is also not so evident. I think the're people playing BS 1 unpatched and patched to 1.02 for what ever reason they wan't. But how is it possible that this installer glitch passed through testing ?
MTFDarkEagle Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 It's being worked on. At this time you've got the workaround. Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread
VAOZoky Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 I think that ED is to blame for so big work on compatibility because they should upgrade BS more often and not only once in 3 years (1.02 is just a hotfix). And this pay or leave attitude?!? I paid 60$ for BS flight model and 60$ for WH gfx engine!!! Why should i pay more? Did they fix anything? INU drift? BTR and BMP super precise shoting? AI cheating? Anything? Intel Core i5 2500k @ 4.2Ghz, 8GB Kingston HyperX @1.6GHz, Ati Radeon HD7870 2GB GDDR5, 19' 1440x900 screen
EtherealN Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 1.0.2 was a hotfix? Err... Not quite. ;) Also, regarding the installer glitch: YOU DO NOT NEED TO DELETE ANYTHING. Either just install 1.0.0 without deleting, or just MOVE the 1.0.2 install. :) It is being worked on. 505 Mario Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 Will BS2 be available at Direct2Drive? I really want to buy it, but don't have a credit-card.
coolts Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 (edited) Hmmmm wikipedia has this to say on the subject of "upgrades"... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upgrade "...In commercial software, the minor upgrades (or updates) are generally free, but the major versions must be purchased. " So it is your decision wether you pay or not based on wether YOU believe this is a minor or major update. Dont blame ED if you dont want to buy it. I dont go to the bakery and rant about all the loaves i dont want to eat I bought the upgrade and will decide for myself wether it was worth it. From the changelog, yes. For me it is. Hence i bought it ;) [ i just wish i hadn't bought take on bloody helicopters 2 days ago now.......too many sims.....not enough free time.....] Edited November 3, 2011 by coolts [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] i7 9700k | 32gb DDR4 | Geforce 2080ti | TrackIR 5 | Rift S | HOTAS WARTHOG | CH PRO Pedals

Clearly a minor glitch which is pretty easy to work around. There are a couple of methods for doing so described previously in this thread. Don't let such a small problem put you off from such fine sim. :) You do not have to destroy your previous BS 1.02 install either. Just rename it temporarily. This type of thing is part and parcel of computers, games, and flight sims in general. Just like everything else in life, nothing is perfect. Rhinox Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 So DCS:BS is online-compatible with DCS:A10C, that brings me to this question: How is it with DCS:BS and "master server"? Does DCS:BS2 need it too? Or only DCS:A10C? If DCS:BS2 does not need "master server connection", can it still host mixed missions for both BS and A10C? (sorry if this question has been already answered, I tried searching the forum but found only a lot of thrustmaster crap in signatures instead)

JG14_Smil Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 Very happy for the update. I cannot DL BS2 exe file as my Norton AV declares it a threat and deletes it as soon as it checks it. The reason given is "WS.Reputation.1". Will try some things and get back to this post....

Inquisitor7 Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 I have done the exact same thing. Installed DCS Blackshark to C: in Windows 7 Professional 64 bit all default settings. I then ran it without it being patched. Then went back out and tried to run the Blackshark 2 patch and it keeps telling me DCS Blackshark has to be installed.
EbonySeraphim Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 Everyone who's complaining about this release is complaining that they have the *option* to purchase an updated copy of a game they already own. If you ask me, this is good thing and an option I wish I had for a lot of older game I used to play games that went out of support and don't even run anymore. Oh, but you have to pay for it? Sports games come out every year and are more or less the same kind of improvement/change, and you pay the full price for those - every time. Now here's the ED dilemma - The whole concept of a single engine running all of those modules over time is probably the most significant feature a lot of the hardcore simmers care about and greatly adds to the longetivity of the franchise. Close second to that: every new module release is going to be looked at by gaming media outlets (and new fans alike) as a new full game and will be received as such. That means they also have to update the graphics and up the level of simulation detail to match what fans believe (or know) is reasonable at the time, and add features that fans of the last game were asking for. Usually these two improvements along with a new set of single-player missions(or campaign) go into the next title in a series of games and the next title only. For ED, the next title from BlackShark was Warthog. We got that, along with the expected improvements, and many were pleased. As far as keeping BlackShark up to par, all of the content around BlackShark, like the existing campaign scripts need to be updated to use the new engine and tools. This probably involves a retest of everything as well. From an ED perspective, that's purely BlackShark work being done and it's not a trivial amount of work either. The money needs to come from somewhere. Certainly, you wouldn't feel justified if ED buried the cost to upgrade in the Warthog purchase? So we have it in a patch that costs money. Take it or leave it. I haven't read all of the posts in the past 50 pages, but I was very excited yesterday reading this news. Just this morning I realized that when the A-10 patch comes online: This is the first time two highly detailed and accurately modeled aircraft are playable in the same multiplayer environment. ...at least I can't think of another simulator that has done it.
