tflash Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 I think I got a new favourite gear: the T-80U. You should look out for TOW missiles, but if you use the T-80's speed to your advantage you can dash into the enemy positions and crush them with your gun. Nothing compares to a good old panzer assault, at the heart of the combined arms doctrine for decades. Anyway some big tank battles are taking place on my PC thanks to CA. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
CaptHawk Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 (edited) Yes, my M1A1 Abrams's were nearly wiped out by the AI(on excellent) T80's in an epic standoff...as you can see I was unable to participate after swamping my tank. Note to self: stay clear of the river banks:D And these guys are now on bowl scrubbing duty... tflash Posted July 11, 2012 Author Posted July 11, 2012 Great! I did a lone wolfe mission, detaching from my column and going alone for several miles, through a town, behind enemy lines to surprise 4 MLRS artillery pieces that were wreaking havoc on REDFOR. Superb! I also got stuck a few times due to terrain incidence, but managed to get free in reverse. It's super to enjoy the DCS terrain this way. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
CaptHawk Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Can't wait for the Mission builder pros to come up with some clever missions. In the meantime, I'm doing my best to put together some short missions so my new tanker recruits can get up to speed with the DCS way:thumbup: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] AMP WIZARD "Forest Gumble" "When the air becomes electric....It's like a box of chocolates":captain: Windows 11 Pro 64 bit | Intel Alder Lake i7 12700KF | Asus Prime Z690M Plus D4 | CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 64GB (2 x 32GB) DDR4 3200 | GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Ventus 3x qwG OC | 1x42" Multi Touch Screen and 1x27" 4k widescreen | WinWing Orion2 ViperAce(EX) Joystick, Orion2 NavyAce Throttle, Orion Flight Metal Rudder(w/damper) |

OpusTheFowl Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Out of curiosity, do I have some setting on "easy" as I seem to be able to destroy targets at ridiculous ranges? Longest one so far is a Vulcan at 5850m but I bet this could go even higher. And what is really confusing me is that the gun is basically flat. Took this SS after the M113 went boom...I have no idea how to read that range indicator.

CaptHawk Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 That makes sense, thx! Here's a shot from last nights MP mission. That's someone's MRLS fire control raining down on a division of T80's. Killed my FPS when I was running in for a CBU 107 drop. But I still managed to get a few in the end:joystick: Looks like the MRLS was a bit off.... Baz_GFA Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 The U.S. military uses the metric system. That looks like 800 meters.
OpusTheFowl Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 8000ft if it is a vehicle from USA. As the thread title might suggest, this was in a T80. Also, 8000ft is 2400m which is less than half of the range to the M113 in the picture.
jib Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 If you lock onto the target with the Enter key you will get a correct range reading in the bottom left of the screen. djembe Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Seems that the range indicator does not work in the Russian tanks This is the original optical sight, the scale is not same as DCS: CA Here you have some videos of my test firing The first video is with aid, the second i am using the viewfinder to measure the distance
JABO2009 Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 thx for posting the vids...by the way: isnt it unrealistic, that near misses cant be seen clearly, even in zoom view? they show be indicated somehow... I always have the feeling that we dont even shoot any sheel at the target until its a direct hit and you can see the explosion... near missed would move some more dirt aroubnd the target i think..maybe ED corrects visualisation of this in the near future... Dmut Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 (edited) Seems that the range indicator does not work in the Russian tanks This is the original optical sight, the scale is not same as DCS: CA it's very much the same. and that 6-8-10 scale is for co-axial machine gun. in RL sight. but in sim, we have diffrent sight for co-axial, so this one is a bit useless, but it's very real )) Edited July 16, 2012 by Dmut "There are five dangerous faults which may affect a general: recklessness, which leads to destruction; cowardice, which leads to capture; a hasty temper, which can be provoked by insults; a delicacy of honor which is sensitive to shame; over-solicitude for his men, which exposes him to worry and trouble."
