Families of German MH17 victims to sue Ukraine

http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/09/21/us-ukraine-crisis-mh17-germany-idUSKBN0HG08520140921

(Reuters) - Survivors of German victims of Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 downed over Ukraine plan to sue the country and its president for manslaughter by negligence in 298 cases, the lawyer representing them said on Sunday.

Professor of aviation law Elmar Giemulla, who is representing three families of German victims, said that under international law Ukraine should have closed its air space if it could not guarantee the safety of flights.

"Each state is responsible for the security of its air space," Giemulla said in a statement emailed to Reuters. "If it is not able to do so temporarily, it must close its air space. As that did not happen, Ukraine is liable for the damage."

Yes it was an Su-24 that was probably on the way to bomb A-Nusrah rebel positions in the area of Kunetrah.

Says the Patriot was fired because it entered Israeli airspace, but the crash site is now confirmed outside Israeli borders in the area of Kunetrah.

If the pilots manage to survive and eject I doubt they will survive the rebel reception on the ground... another 2 decapitation videos soon to be uploaded to youtube :(

RIP... or hope to hear the pilots chute's floated westward across the border to Israel... thats their best chance to survive.

That's the first time in the whole service life of the system that a Patriot missle shoots down a hostile plane. To this day it only shot down other missles and friendly jets.

Interesting that they went for the 22's for that type of mission. Can't have been the cheapest choice.

Furthermore (and I hope this isn't too political a statement), I can think of few better uses of tax money than killing ISIS militants. 100% behind these missions.

F-22's were stationed over there, why not use them. I cant imagine there is a big difference in using another airframe to drop the same bomb, money-wise, but I dont know...

I thought the F-22 could carry 2 GBU-32s (1000lb JDAM), but I could be wrong... dunno what it dropped in this case

It may have been BLU-109 (2000 lbs) or BLU-110 (1000 lbs) with a JDAM airfoil group installed.

GBU-31(V)3/B 2000 lbs

GBU-35(V)1/B 1000 lbs
