I mean, what do you need the NWS button for? :)

NWS operation on the eagle is automatic.

Don't you need to hold S to engage nose wheel steering?

Posted

No .. NWS in the eagle is always on.

Then why can I turn more while taxiing if I hold S? What does holding S do?

Posted

S allows the landing gear to turn to 45 deg instead of 22. And if you're using it all the time, you're just taxiing wrong for the most part ;). It's called maneuver mode, not NWS.

Ah I see. So what exactly is NWS then?

(Also, I believe that the S key is labeled as NWS under the controls but I may be wrong.)

Yep I'm aware of the labeling. The f15 had a manual disengage button but it's used for towing only.

Good morning Gentlemen,

since the SU-33 will receive the PFM-Upgrade in the near future and the Mig-29 could be spotted in Wags F/A-18 Introduction Intro, are there any plans to upgrade the Mig-29 to PFM or even DCS standards?

Cheers and thanks in advance for the answer

I don't know if something has come up in the new update, but when flying the F-15, I very often find my screen going white as if the sun is shining on it or something. Is this happening to anyone else?

Posted

Yes, the glare is quite aweful :)

Su-33

Do we know already what are the plans for Su-33 release? Free for FC3 owners but will it be available as a module on it's own ?

Sounded like that was the plan. And if they add carrier operations as campaign then there may be players wanting just this bird as their only FC3 aircraft. Must be a good idea with a module of it's own.

My thoughts as well HiJack. Would be nice to get this while waiting for US carrier and Navy/ Marine F birds that are now WIP...

I think the new update has screwed some stuff up for me...it seems that the farther i zoom out, the grainier the text on the HUD and VSD look. Anyone else having this issue of things looking grainy?

Edit: nevermind looks like my video settings reset to default for some reason and my in cockpit resolution was decreased to 256

What are the proper brevity codes (tally, spike, nails, etc) and structure (bearing, range, angels, etc) for calling out radar and rwr contacts?

Posted

Wasn't that a NATO thing??

I always thought Warsaw Pact side of things was rather weak...

Yes those are the brevity codes but I'm looking more for a professional way of calling out a contact you see on radar or threat on the RWR. Not sure what brevity codes to use and how to formulate sentences describing the threat/target.

If I see a mig29 on my 12 o clock on my rwr would I say: "29 spike, 12 o'clock"? Or would I say nails instead of spike?

If I'm looking at my radar and I see a MiG-29 on my 12 for 20 miles at angels 10, how would I call it out in a professional way? "Tally MiG-29 bearing XYZ for 20 at angels 10"? Is tally even the right brevity code for this situation?

Sorry if this is too much to read this, just trying to figure out how a pro would do it :)

Fighter pilot slang

Hey,

First of all - know your slang -

There are two general types: Directive and descriptive. Here is a good BRA example:

from DCS. I have seen multiple real ones on YT just don't have the links at hand.

Also see attached for BC reference

IIRC

Nails would be for if the bandit is in search mode, and spike for if the bandit is in tracking mode.

The correct way to call out that Fulcrum would be with 'contact', 'radar contact', or 'tied' if info was given from a sentry or another asset. You can also return with 'judy' to another asset if you don't need any aditional guidance to complete the intercept.

'tally' is for contact visual, eyes on.

Hi guys,

Watch this video and do not pay attention to the landing maneuver. What I want to ask is .. What kind of missiles are mounted on the central part under the aircraft? Are these weapons A2G or A2A weapons? Will the Su-33 soon receive this new weapon?

Why do people insist on saying "the correct way" - the answer is, it depends on which country you are in.

So the question should be "the correct way for "insert country's" pilots to say...."

I believe that NATO/US use the same set in a similar manner. Outside of that sphere, I imagine it could be different.

But not only country but potentially era as well, when you think about it. Ran across this the other day: Glossary of RAF WWII code names.
