FoxElite Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 We both know many fictional worlds build in movies, books, games are very cool, for example:the Strange-real world in Acecombat series, the Macross universe..etc...And it even cooler when you become a fighter pilot in those world, the only thing you have to worry about is piloting the plane(with a very simplified control) and fighting. The sky(or space) is truly the only limit you must face and you are not restricted by those complex control and limit you must deal in real world .But is it really better than our real world? So what's your opinion?Become a fictional or a real world's pilot? :)
Erforce Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 I think theory, rules of engagements, Military code, and briefings will do short work of my brain. But i could be a consultant for fictionnal world (movies... when you see them, you're lolling everytime you see this fake HUD, or a guys taking 30G in his looping, not talking about Emmerich's 2012 movie) TASK / ROLES acronyms guide Black Shark A.I. datalink guide illustrated (v1.2.4 Available on Wiki) DCS World Codex 1.1 : full units list (Speed/Weapons/Armor thickness/Threat zone/Weapon damage...) TomDK Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 I was several times in the 1980th with the German Airforce in GooseBay Canada. Our pilots trained deep flying with Panavia Tornado. This guys were fully concentrated planning the flight and fly !! But meantime, there was a lot of hanging around and wasting time. On bad weather no one could fly, the technicians had work but the pilots just watched tv. So not everything what sound cool is cool on a day to day basic. Therefor I enjoy my sim .. I can fly in sunshine, rain, fog and snow :) My old, sold, pit: http://bilder.einzelart.de/thumbnails.php?album=74&page=3

I can fly my way. I don't have to care about ATC, ROE or whatever. 4. I don't have any paperwork before take off and after landing. 5. If I make an error while flying, my career isn't ended. 6. They have a lot of rules and certain things they can and can not do. I'll stick to being a armchair pilot. Kuky Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 I wanted to become fighter pilot and went into military school because of it, then quit before I could finish anything due to shitty war in former Yugoslavia... when I came in Australia I thought about trying again then changed my mind as I thought again about experience I already got about what shit politics can do and didn't want to be owned by military any more. Being virtual pilot is better for me, better PC's, newer flight sims and flight simming peripherials are good enough to have some of the nice experience fighter pilot can bring without actually killing anyone, without danger of duying yourself and having all the comfort civilian life has... going where I want, when I want and when I don't like something I can get away from it and no one owns me. upupandaway Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 I was also thinking about enlisting to become a pilot when I was about 20. Luckily I remembered that being told what to do and having to follow orders is not really for me. Apart from that Feuerfalke already pretty much said it. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Deedle, deedle!

EtherealN Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 (edited) It would probably be a shitty experience for me given physical limitations, and like someone mentioned - there's a lot ot be said for having a toilet available. nwCAiF61lM0 (Hm, weird, speech is unintelligible, but I know I saw this one before and then you could hear what they said pretty easy.) Rotorhead Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Fighter pilot, uh... no. The only weapons I've ever fired were simulated ones, and I like to keep it that way. I'd much more like to be a rescue pilot, but I'm not in enough good shape for it anyways. And, as others said, real flying is not only fun, but also lots of paperwork, procedures and responsibility. I'll better stick to having fun with virtual planes. Nowadays they have actual facilities on board. :) Here you can see it up close (first video, after 4:30):music_whistling:
Madone Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 And, as others said, real flying is not only fun, but also lots of paperwork, procedures and responsibility. It's not only fun because it's a job, peoples still really think that military = sort of vacation where you can blow **** up and stuff... EtherealN Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 I have an acquaintance (through neighbor club) that flies JAS-39. He describes that as "at work" while flying gliders is "fun". Needless to say, quite a few people don't agree with that outlook and rather occupy themselves with being envious about his day job. :p [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
Rotorhead Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Yeah, while I still think that flying is much more fun than many other jobs, but you're right guys, as soon as you start doing anything for living, it's going to get repetitive. I know it's mainly paperwork, briefings, routine flight training, education, medical examinations etc. what pilots do most of the time, not the stuff we know from movies. But I haven't heard of pilot (not that I know many of them) who calls his job boring, but many "ordinary" employees often do.
Madone Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 I didn't say there's no fun, they deserve to have fun and enjoy to be pilot, what I'm trying to say is there's so many recruits that stop after 2 days at the flight school because "they're not sure" even at the office lol Strike Posture Set CAS Center of Excellence Intel Core i5 4690k @4,6Ghz, Gigabyte GTX 970 OC, Gigabyte Z97-X, 16GB G Skill Sniper @2400, Samsung 860/850 EVO , Win 10 64 bits, Dual monitors 27"@144"Opentrack + TM Warthog + Saitek pro flight combat
Erforce Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 I forgot that : I wanted to be a fighter pilot when i was 15. But only for a F-18. and France didn't have that, so i dropped that idea. Didn't want to turn swiss or spanish. Now if the world looked differently, i would be a real marine or survivor, against zombies or evil creature against mankind (Aliens?). Death is around, but you could enjoy your life. As being a fighter pilot, still the same. you can't do much with your jet and its 4 missiles. Yurgon Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 One more thing to add to Feuerfalke's list: A jet fighter's time in the cockpit is usually over around the age of 35. 40 if lucky. After that, it's flying airliners or doing some other dull stuff ("dull" compared to flying fast jets). For me, definitely sim pilot. All the reasons have already been mentioned by others. :) However, if I was 16 again, not sure which path I'd choose.
