Spasticatedtoad Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 :pilotfly: Wow! That's all I could say for about half an hour. I'm still sitting here stunned. I know I am a late comer to the whole "TrackIr Thing ", and I knew it made a huge difference to the whole DCS World......but wow...even my imagination was not that good. For the first time ever, I have had a Blast doing nothing but flying around. I usually want an objective/mission pretty much after 10 minutes of that. But I got carried away looking at the Instrument panel ( while free flying ) and crashed into the ground. I looked at the time and 2 hours had gone by. :D It's like some sort of patch was released and its a whole new world now. Can't wait till it is. :) Thanks E.D and everyone else for all your hard work. With DCS WORLD and TrackIr, you get to see just how much you were missing before, and just how awesome it all works together. Looking forward to many more flights.:D

I'm curious how the technology will evolve with flight simulators. Wow! That's all I could say for about half an hour. I'm still sitting here stunned - I'm waiting for my TrackIR5 as well. Spasticatedtoad Posted April 9, 2013 Author Posted April 9, 2013 - Just read about that one today.... I'm curious how the technology will evolve with flight simulators. - I'm waiting for my TrackIR5 as well. Should arrive at the house tomorrow. I'm really excited too! I am hoping that in my lifetime, head tracking and flight sim's will elvolve to a Point where you don't sit in front of a monitor, its HD Screens in a Headset, that the Track Ir device watch's. That way it can be right in the middle of your view for full range. :D And sslechta.....boy, are you in for a tonne of fun tomorrow if you TrackIr does turn up. I thought it was going to be a 1 hour fiddle and frustration hour, before I got it to work. But all I did was install it and it was running. Gave it some fine tuning and its been a whole new world since. Can't wait till my broken L.E.D Unit gets replaced. I've wanted TrackIr since before it had a number after it's name. Finally I justify spending the money...and it shipped to me broken. All I can use is the Hatclip. :( But even then, 1000% better than what its ever been, and it'll get even better yet. Absolutely stunning. I've killed my pilot about 5 times just looking at how cool it all looks :D
AwesomeSprawvy Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 I completely agree with you! I received my TrackIR 5 from Amazon last week and was up and running after a little bit of tweaking. I must say, I was kicking myself for waiting this long to get one.
VH-Rock Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 DCS P:51 is the only sim that I've flown that from the minute I start the engine to the minute I shut it down, I have a huge grin on my face! With DCS maxed out, in HD and with Track IR, it's a truly amazing experience. Virtual Horsemen - Right Wing (P-51) - 2008... Virtual Ultimate Fighters - Lead (P-47) - 2020...
VIMANAMAN Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Yeah TIR is an amazing bit of kit - well worth the investment - it opens the World up in a effortless and intuitive way - I find when I'm watching other peoples flt vids I often turn my head trying to look around! With the Shark (in the right mode) you can aim the gun with your head movements - which is really bloody nice! Anyways, yeah I really enjoy just blamming around in the Stang for no other reason than pure fun every once in a while.

Just looking round the A10 cockpit is a scary experience - so many knobs & buttons, & they all work!!!

sslechta Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 TIR very plug & play too... I was able to get rolling on the default template. MegOhm_SD Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 If you ever go with a wireless head set, you can also go wireless with your TIR.... The Logitec G930 is a good match with surround sound. MegOhm_SD Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Quality is excellent. Both sound and construction. I have had the G930 for over two years with no issues. The Surround Sound is pretty awesome... Battery lasts 10 hours as advertised. I am still on the orig battery. If you wanted you can get a spare backup for about $5 usd. I recommend this headset if you don't mind full ear coverage which I like because I can't hear outside sounds at all. It is also a good fit for mounting TIR. If you shop around ...you will find prices much lower than the msrp of $159. Currently at newegg for $119...but might find it in the $80s. They have a wired version which is cheaper..but wireless is the way to go. I can walk downstairs, outside in the street and still listen and chat on TS3. It has lots of good features. Splat Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 I'll second the G930 recommendation. I've had mine for nearly two years now and love it. Whoever figured out how to get 7.1 surround sound to come out of two speakers is a wizard. My only gripe is that it becomes a little uncomfortable to wear with glasses after a couple of hours. Guess that's a queue to take a break. Merlin-27 Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 I received my TrackIR 5 yesterday. Pretty awesome device. It probably would have been better if I got it sooner, before I honed my mouse look skills to such a fine point. I seem to be hitting a point where I'm beyond the range of movement and then it snaps my view back. Also side to side movement has been a challenge... I KNOW there is an enemy behind that headrest. I'm sure it's part of the learning curve. I'm going to try a few combat proven profiles to see if it improves my experience. As far as casual flying...very impressive right out of the box. Davros23 Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Merlin - make sure your Track IR is mounted off centre on top of your monitor, preferably directly in front of your Track Clip Pro. Also make sure the Track Clip Pro is extended away from your headset a little. The more visible the IR lights are at all times, the better the performance.
Cedaway Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 And avoid at all cost all light sources behind you, in the sensor's FOV. This jams badly the TiR. As I did not buy the track clip pro this brings up a good question. Hat clip or Track clip Pro? Is it a big difference. I don't mind wearing a hat. Mostly interested in accuracy of the sensor. Davros23 Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 I've only tried the track clip pro so I can't give a view on the hat clip.
Fakum Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 I only use the viser clip, I wear only a visor hat, sensor centered on top of monitor, pretty much level with the visor sensor.
