I've over clocked my Phenom II X4 BE to 3.8MHz Normally it sit's at 3.2MHz. As it is a black edition there was no need to up the FBS.

just used the unlocked CPU multiplier in BIOS, Using stock voltage as well. I could get 4.0MHz if I upped the voltage it but am just going to keep 3.8MHz for time being.

Been over-clocked for over one year never had any heating issues or blue screen of deaths touch wood.

Was not over clocked for DCS, It was for BF3 but as DCS only does two cores it helps a'little.

How about everyone else?

Q9550 (2.83GHz standard) @ 3.7GHz 1.328V

FSB 8.5 x 436 MHz

Right now I'm only restricted by the temperature, although the voltage is getting a tad high. My motherboard has a huge Vdroop. I might try to go 3.8GHz when I start playing DCS more actively.

It was pretty easy to get stable but then again I didn't need to touch North Bridge voltages or the like. Just FSB and voltage. The previous owner of my CPU lapped it so it helps.

in My "Power Mode", My 8350 Runs 5.1Ghz w/ ram at 2133MHz, but i dont keep them there for 24/7.

just want to point out 5Ghz and above is luck of the draw, not every CPU can hit 5 GHz.

A few ticks on the FSB and a few Ticks on the Multiplier, few ticks on the mv and DRAM VDDC, adjust some ratios and timings. Stress test, save profile if it's good, if not go back and diagnose to see if you need more voltage or not.

I can hit 5.2GHz Stable (no Stress Test Errors), but I dont dare leave the mv that high, one hiccup and the chip is fried. from 5.2 down to 5.1GHz on my chip is a significant difference in sustained mv to the chip, it's much safer than what I need to maintain 5.2GHz stable (on 8 cores).

Even still, I dont need 5.1 Ghz all the time, so I Run it at the Stock 4Ghz, with different profiles.

I can Enable/Disable Power Saving Features and Change Overclock Profiles from within windows.

I can switch between:

Stock w/ Power Saving: (4GHz, Spools down to 1.6GHz and parks cores, 4.2GHz TurboRAM At 1600Mhz)

Stock w/ No Power Saving (4.09 GHz, No Spool Downs, Turbo 4.2GHz, RAM At 1600Mhz)

Overclock 1: (5.1GHz, Power saving to 1.6GHz, APM On, no Turbo, RAM At 2133Mhz)

Overclock 2: (5.1GHz, No Spool Downs, APM OFF, C1E OFF, C6 OFF, RAM At 2133Mhz)

Overclock 3: (5.2GHz, No Spool Downs, APM OFF, C1E/C6 OFF, RAM at 2133)

Overclock 4: (5.4GHz, Modules 3 and 4 Disabled (Cores 4,5,6,7), APM/C1E/C6 Off, Ram at 1866Mhz)

I have more profiles saved in DOCs, as mainboard can only old 4 Profiles (outside of Stock settings). (those settings i toggle manually, outside of a saved profile)

I can Run 2 Cores at 5.5 Stable.

Normally at 3.2GHz? That doesn't sound right. My 965 Black Edition is supposed to be 3.4GHz stock but runs at 3.6-3.7GHz and I haven't even overclocked it yet. How's the temperature and cooling on yours? I am considering overlcocking but worried about overheating it.

Mine is a 955 BE never had it a stock for long but sure its 3.2, I see you have a different model.

Runs fine max temp per core is around 52c fully loaded idle 25c, I read the max temp per core is 60c so anything near that would be bad not sure on max cpu chip temp will be higher likely.

I've just got a stock heat-sink and fan but as you're not increasing the voltage with BE's it helps keep temp down, you should defo give it a try am using core temp to watch the temps you can download that free.

So as long as voltage isn't increased cooling shouldn't be an issue? When I boot up the BIOS on my ASUS motherboard it keeps telling me CPU temperature around 48-50C, which cannot be right.

I run my 2500K @ 4.5Ghz 24/7 while undervolted at 1.24V. I could perhaps take it to 5Hz but Im not willing to test my luck and risk having to buy new computer now that my job is no longer safe.

I might hold off on overclocking then. My room gets pretty warm in the summer anyway.

CPU-Z tells me my stock 965BE is running at 3.68GHz.

Upping the Voltage Puts more Power to the CPU, and returns as a Higher TDP / Heat Output.

Upping the Multiplier makes the Chip do more work with the voltage it's given,

You'll get a Load Temp Increase, but it wont be as drastic of a increase if you you have to up the voltage 200mv

I've got a phenom 2 955 3.2 ghz BE too. I overclocked mine to 3.8 about 6 months ago and not had any problems at all, I am using an upgraded coolermaster heatsink and fan though. It doesn't give a massive boost but it was well worth doing.

It probably would hurt. Use RealTemp or CoreTemp software for accurate reading when LOADED. Don't trust BIOS. For loading you can use Intel Burn test or Prime95. Both vital for overclockers.

I had a feeling someone would mention Prime95. I hate those programs...take away valuable hours that I could spend flying :pilotfly:

And CoreTemp is telling me my idle temperature is 47C....sounds a bit warm.
