Bahger Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 So, because it's looking like it'll take most of the day (and possibly even most of the night) can someone please confirm that, if I hit "Cancel" in the upload progress window (because someone else in my family might need the bandwidth), the upload will resume where it left off the next time I try to start the sim? or will I have to start the sim and then manually upload to resume? Thanks!
159th_Falcon Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Don't. It will erase what you've downloaded. Update again or wait and then update again. Or just use a torrent. Looks like this release is much more popular than the previous one. We are considering to implement torrents into autoupdater. AWESOME, well if that means that everyone that is using the autoupdater will also be uploading already downloaded files to other users. (whit there permission?) dikkeduif Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Just did bahger, it resumed my download on restart of the updater.
Darkwolf Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Update launched at 1600Z - i'm currently at 600.6mb/1343mb. It's 2100Z. It seems to have stabililized at 40kb/s - but we had fun with a french friend who launched at the same time, seeing who would get it first. At a point we stood maybe....30min, starring our screens which was showing.... 2kb/s. I had one crash so i hope files won't be corrupted. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] PC simulator news site. Maxzouz Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 We should all disconnect from the forum. Maybe it will increase the speed This is a joke, I assume that is a different server (is it ?) :)
ED Team c0ff Posted April 30, 2013 ED Team Posted April 30, 2013 This is a joke, I assume that is a different server (is it ?) :) It is. There're 3 update servers. This release helped us to locate bottlenecks both in the server hardware and in the updater technology. So we hope to do better next time. Dmitry S. Nopileus Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 At least it downloads for you, mine quit with an error with 180mb to go and now it just stands still...
Dejjvid Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 c0ff, do you have several mirrors with the updater or just one? Perhaps you could add more repositories, and let users with 100mbit+ upload help you spread the load. I know quite a few people with 100-250mbit+ connections that would help for free. i7 8700K | GTX 1080 Ti | 32GB RAM | 500GB M.2 SSD | TIR5 w/ Trackclip Pro | TM Hotas Warthog | Saitek Pro Flight Rudder [sigpic]http://www.132virtualwing.org[/sigpic]

The plan in the future is to integrate torrenting in the updater to solve rushes like this. Hopefully that will be possible. Dejjvid Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Well, the problem with torrents is that the people with good upload still have to struggle to download the content. It took me 4 hours for 1.2.3 to download 100%, but I seeded over 300GB in 24hrs. i7 8700K | GTX 1080 Ti | 32GB RAM | 500GB M.2 SSD | TIR5 w/ Trackclip Pro | TM Hotas Warthog | Saitek Pro Flight Rudder [sigpic]http://www.132virtualwing.org[/sigpic]

Bahger Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 1.8 - 8.5 KB/s, downloading since mid-morning (i.e. 4 hours ago) and not a third done yet. At this rate, it'll take until tomorrow morning. It's silly. There has to be a better way than this (or downloading the whole program via Torrent when all you need is an update.)
Dejjvid Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 3. The plan in the future is to integrate torrenting in the updater to solve rushes like this. Hopefully that will be possible. Yea, torrents are nice, but if you want them awesome I reckon you need 25 seeders from the start, else the torrent won't distribute fast enough when you have crazy amounts of peers. i7 8700K | GTX 1080 Ti | 32GB RAM | 500GB M.2 SSD | TIR5 w/ Trackclip Pro | TM Hotas Warthog | Saitek Pro Flight Rudder [sigpic]http://www.132virtualwing.org[/sigpic]
TimeKilla Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Got 1 hour on the torrent but sucks downloading the whole thing a 1gig update should be better the way its working at the moment the game updater is really nulled :joystick: YouTube :pilotfly: TimeKilla on Flight Sims over at YouTube.
EtherealN Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Well, the problem with torrents is that the people with good upload still have to struggle to download the content. It took me 4 hours for 1.2.3 to download 100%, but I seeded over 300GB in 24hrs. This depends on how fast you are with starting the download. The first people to start won't see as much benefit, but as more people come in the benefit is cumulative, since they can start off with downloading from peers rather than the main download servers you would be using - which in turn means you won't be as heavily hit when others come in. It's not a magical fix, but remember that all traffic that goes through the peer network is traffic that is not clogging the main servers.
