Long time KA-50 fan here. Wasn't really that excited for the UH-1 but I'm always up for diving into a new aircraft, especially when its a DCS level simulation.

It's funny how much people went on and on about how uncontrollable and difficult to fly the KA-50 was... it took me about a month to learn to fly it effectively, and another month to be combat ready, and I'm a pilot in real life.

Now that I fly the huey... it's like a gokart, where the ka-50 is like a race car. And I loved every second of its unstable conventional designed 2 rotor craziness. :pilotfly: I can't wait to master it and tame it just like I did the shark!

What do you guys think? any fun stories already?

I'll be the first to pipe in and say that if the 2 FM's of the shark and the huey are even 50% correct, my respect for the Russian coaxial design is even more than it was...

The Huey will be a nice challenge going forward.

Complete new experience flying the Huey VS the Ka-50. My first impressions was to acknowledge the fact that I did not know how to handle a traditional chopper and it was back to training from scratch. After watching the tutorials I started getting a grasp. It's nothing like the Shark, not even close. I love it and I'm glad that I got it. Actually it feels like the P-51 of the Helo world.

Speed is life !!!

I'm so afraid to hate it that's why i will not test it (especially without demo).

Vietnam copter, like an old 70's car, without A/C, electric roof, KITT (female version) intelligent computer, and low armor... well...

even in Belsimtek promo video, he crashed some UH with soldiers' bullets :(

But i look forward for some vids and user exp.

I tried flying the KA-50 again today, for the first time after flying the HUEY.

The Shark almost feels like a breeze now. I even turned off the autopilot in it and flew like that instead.

Well I'm pretty well seasoned in the Shark now, having flown it since v1.0. But man, the Huey's f*ng HARD. No stories so far though, too busy crashing all the time for those still ;)

The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.

The shark is still top dog!

Love flying the Huey but not much you can do with it at the moment and the systems are very basic (weapons etc not flight model) once you learn how to fly and hover, land, shoot etc might start getting a'bit dull.

At the end of the day its another copter to master so the Huey is a good thing hope we end up with more never enjoyed flying fast jets takes you out of the combat loving flying close to ground.

Still love them both but the KA-50 rules the sky's and when am shot down the Huey will pick me up!

Flew the Huey last night, and damn.. it is hard to handle!

I have been flying the blackshark for around 20 hours and i'm finally getting more used to it but 10 mins on the Huey sure got my hands tired of all the corrections that had to be made!.

One thing that bothers me though (and i don't know if it's just me) but when looking left or right the view is like "rotated"... i can't look out of the helo without seeing everything on a 45° angle.

I got 12 hours on the Huey irl. It's a really easy helicopter to fly. But it's not on the PC. The flight model is very realistic, but what you lack ia the proper controls, the peripheral vision and the seat of the pants feeling.

It's still freaking great to play with it in DCS!

Tried taking it up high the last few days. Training touch and go's in the Elbrus region, quite the challenge to touch down when you're hitting the floor with the left rudder. Nothing like the shark that has plenty of power to spare as long as you don't load it fully.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

After flying the Huey for a little bit, I have a new found appreciation for the KA-50 and what DCS has delivered. The feeling of mass and power in the KA is definitely noticeable and the benefits of twin rotor stability is clearly evident. I love them both (The KA much more than I use to) and look forward to mastering them. Makes me more excited to see other new titles like MI-28 and apache.

I was in Art of the Kill D#@ it!!!!

Were you landing into the wind?

No wind. I was just running out of left rudder.

I can see why other attack Helicopters need two pilots, if the AH-1 is like this then I look forward to going head to head with it in multiplayer!

The KA-50 is a seriously stable aircraft.

The Huey sim is superb and well worth the cash.

looking forward to the MI-8 now.

HP G2 Reverb (Needs upgrading), Windows 10 VR settings: IPD is 64.5mm, High image quality, G2 reset to 60Hz refresh rate. set to OpenXR, but Open XR tool kit disabled.

DCS: Pixel Density 1.0, Forced IPD at 55 (perceived world size), DLSS setting is quality at 1.0. VR Driver system: I9-9900KS 5Ghz CPU. XI Hero motherboard and RTX 3090 graphics card, 64 gigs Ram, No OC... Everything needs upgrading in this system!.

Vaicom user and what a superb freebie it is! Virpil Mongoose T50M3 base & Mongoose CM2 Grip (not set for dead stick), Virpil TCS collective with counterbalance kit (woof woof). Virpil Apache Grip (OMG). MFG pedals with damper upgrade. Total controls Apache MPDs set to virtual Reality height. Simshaker Jet Pro vibration seat.. Uses data from DCS not sound... goodbye VRS.

Running out of left rudder is caused by adverse winds. Try to land into the wind.

Can also be caused by needing to pull too much collective at high altitude. There was no wind in my mission. :)

The KA-50 needs two pilots as well. The design is a failure in real life... The pilot workload is way too high for a single pilot, and when you do some aggressive maneuvring, the rotor blades can hit eachother...

I've had this happen to me irl with a Huey. It was because of the wind. Don't know what your temp and altitude was where you were flying, but it's unrealistic to have no winds in mountains.

Somewhere around 13000 feet ASL. :)

I think it was set to 10°C above standard atmosphere.

First impression? I have only one impression. It's #@$! hard to hover!

I miss KA-50, even without any AP channel... Oh my! I wonder when I can perform a proper hover... :(

Bell products are notorious for not having enough tail rotor authority. Roughly 90% of all Loss of Tail Rotor Effectiveness (LTE) incidents involve Bell helicopters. The UH-1H is no exception. Adverse wind is not the only condition that can lead to LTE.

From the UH-1H Operator's Manual:

Loss of Tail Rotor Effectiveness. This is a situation involving a loss of effective tail rotor thrust without a break in the drive system. The condition is most likely to occur at a hover or low airspeed as a result of one or more of the following.

a. Out-of-ground effect hover.

b. High pressure altitude/high temperature.

c. Adverse wind conditions.

d. Engine/rotor rpm below 6600/324.

e. Improperly rigged tail rotor.

f. High gross weight.

While is may be that sobek's mission was unrealistic in that it included no wind, that does, in this case, remove adverse wind as a possible cause.

If and when I actually can control a hover on the Huey, say for 5 minutes, I'm going to dance !

Damned its tough.
