Ranger79 Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Can you please explain if you only have the .dds files in your 476vfg.zip file, and if there is any folder structure, or just files? Still getting the orange no image found errors. Thanks in advance. Snoopy Posted May 1, 2013 Author Posted May 1, 2013 1) Yes I put the dds files in the .zip file. No folder structure in the .zip, just files 2) Check your description.lua to make sure the dds files you have in the .zip file show true v303d Fighter Group Discord | Virtual 303d Fighter Group Website
Ranger79 Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 (edited) I think I may have found the problem, I got confused, page 13 shows backslash "\" on the top line in the tutorial and in the screenshot of notepad++ shows forward slash "/". EDIT: Yup, that fixed it, I initially copied the top line and edited with my own comp info. However, I should have placed "/" slashes instead of "\" slashes. I hope that makes sense. Thanks for the tutorial, you may want to fix in the future so noobs like me don't screw it up lol. Taproot Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 I don't get it. How is this method any better then the old one? All I see are many more steps to install the skins. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
zaelu Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 is that meaning we slowly go towards chooseable dowladable skins? How is this method any better then the old one? All I see are many more steps to install the skins. Because with the skins installed in your saved games folder you won't have to reinstall everytime DCS World is updated like you presently do. Basically do this once and you won't have to do it again. You can still do it the old way but you'll continue to have to reinstall after every major release. v303d Fighter Group Discord | Virtual 303d Fighter Group Website
zaelu Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 But the old skins still work in liveries folder... why moving them? Also... Is not very clear in that PDF what are we suppose to do. Create a autoexec.cfg file that enumerates every single skin with full path etc? The path directs to textures folder from \user\saved game files\DCS\Texturess but the actual files stay in Liveries from User\Saved games files\DCS\Liveries?? Archived or not archived? I'm sorry... but I am lost in that PDF. And I can't see the reason as the skins just work where they were... 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] I5 4670k, 32GB, GTX 1070, Thrustmaster TFRP, G940 Throttle extremely modded with Bodnar 0836X and Bu0836A, Warthog Joystick with F-18 grip, Oculus Rift S - Almost all is made from gifts from friends, the most expensive parts at least
Snoopy Posted May 1, 2013 Author Posted May 1, 2013 (edited) Sorry you can't understand it, I can't "dumb it down" anymore than I already did. Use it or don't...it's your choice. As to why I will do it this way from now on and all the 476th vFG members will I posted at the link below. http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1739140&postcount=10 Thanks for the tutorial, you may want to fix in the future so noobs like me don't screw it up lol. I'm sorry... but I am lost in that PDF. And I can't see the reason as the skins just work where they were... some folks when updating dcs completely remove all the files based in Program files folders, myself included. this usually means the hassle of re installing everything. having things layed out in your folder away from the main install simply means less hassle and well it sits there and should work without even touching it. however i usually clean that saved games/DCs folder too lol. a little bit of editing and i guess ill create my own DCS custom files area. Paul should absolutely any files be read and overwrite from this newer location ? are there possible restrictions. can the newer sky and sun effects mods work like this too ? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
kobac Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 I tried to put my snake skin, following the instructions, but it fails. I can not figure out where I went wrong. In mission editor I can choose the skin, but when I run simulation I got the error missing skin (orange). In folder "MyTextures" is packed snake.zip skin, and this is how look like my autoexec.cfg file table.insert (options.graphics.VFSTexturePaths, "c:/Users/username/Saved Games/DCS/MyTextures/snake") [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]Everything is possible ...

kobac Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 (edited) I found what was wrong. My dds files were in a separate directory so I'm compress all, and this is a mistake. Packed archive should be made only from dds files, not from the folder where the dds files are!:music_whistling: It's all OK now. Katmandu Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 I have downloaded a couple of skins for the Shark and installation is even simpler: create a folder for the skin (here it is Winter Kamov) and unzip all individual files into it, together with description.lua. No need to put it into autoexec.cfg the skin shows in game and works perfect.
