S!

Since this is such a tricky bird to control, I thought I'd start a thread about how folks have set their controllers in order to tame the beast. I'll start with mine...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Controllers used: T.Flight Hotas X & Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Pedals

Settings as per the screenshots below (collective, roll, pitch & yaw respectively):

I use the Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog with the spring mod and CH Pedals. I have JOY_Y and JOY_X both set to 90 on saturation, everything else is set to 100 and no curve. Before I did the spring mod I had JOY_Y and JOY_X set to 70 saturation as was posted by someone else; that gave me really good control. But the stick was just too stiff on long flights so that's why I did the spring mod. Since then, I can fly for long periods of time with no fatigue.

Really, the key to control is soft hands and very small movements. When I finally understood how important that is I could hover all day long. Now, if I could just get the approaching and landing part down pat I'd be golden...

No, just practice with a lot less curves and no saturation.

So this is a silly question, I'm sure (and yes, I've used the search function - no clear answer). How do I export my Controller settings/profile? I have one, that I think a good many people would enjoy (if they have the TM Warthog).

In your control setup screen you should be able to click on the field and hit save. it should save it to a file.

Wess, what are your controller settings? I have a CH Fighterstick and CH Pro Pedals, and have tried various Curves, Saturation, Slider, etc...with basically no luck. I have been unable to hover or control the aircraft with any sense of authority. The Huey is flying me, and has a mind of its own.

I have the TMwarthog and i'm just using stock axis settings. No deadzones and no curves. Like the pickup tutorial says, "small adjustments" when hovering. As i've read thought in the next update the Huey is much more stable. What that means to me is get good/better now and be a master when they tame it down a little.

The good news is I was just promoted to Captain! Lord knows why? I tore the skids off and shredded the main rotors into a thousand pieces and the helicopter ended up on its side. I guess the CO figured since it didn't end up in a fireball with another dead crew, I was progressing.

What should I do on my Saitek X52, I read something about curves, but what's that and how I should set it up?

I don't understand anything in russian except Davai Davai!

You know, y'all who said not to use any controller curves? You were absolutely right. Now I've got my cyclic stick at 3 deadzone, 0.65 Y saturation plus no curves, rudders au naturel w/ a deadzone of 7 + no curves, and the collective as per the picture below. And we-hey! I find I can even hover this thing now...

OK, off to the foothills of Southern Georgia next. Gonna find me some insurgents & go medieval on their sorry butts :D

Also have the fighterstick.

Curvature about 21 (pitch/roll)

saturation 100%

Allows very good control.

Not just yet. We'll get there, though.

Oh, and incidentally - you guys think this bugger is hard to control? Well, just wait until you get your hydraulics shot off mid-mission and then we'll talk :D Alas, I didn't survive the incident, so headquarters had to record 4 Huey crew plus one copter missing presumed lost somewhere in the foothills of Bakhmaro today...

MOTHERF***ER but I just LOVE this chopper!!!

How old is your controller? Mine is probably 6 or 7 years old and I am up to 50% curve and 80% saturation in Y axis.

What about saturation in X axis? Should this be set also?

What is the affect of having the Slider check box checked?

Well, the Huey has helped confirm my next controller 'adjustment'. It is definitely time to add an extension to the Warthog. :)
