Yskonyn Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Warthog, Saitek pro combat pedals and Track IR5 is what I use. Been simming since FS 5.0, Falcon 3.0 and Secret weapons of the Luftwaffe. Also a RL professional pilot and this is the best setup I have found for maximizing the control of a computer simulation short of a level D simulator. Have fun! Lol, a Level-D sim eh? I bet if you mounted the cheaper X52 setup on a hydraulic platform (provided it could communicate with DCS) you would still come darn close to that level of performance, or at the very least; the feel of it. The X52 is a great stick. It gets a bit sloppy with age and -personally- I was never able to get used to the 'snappy' center with its rather weak spring. Ergonomically and button wise, though, its pretty good and definately one of the top cheaper options. I dont know why this is relevant, but I fly too. :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Asus Z390-E, 32GB Crucial Ballistix 2400Mhz, Intel i7 9700K 5.0Ghz, Asus GTX1080 8GB, SoundBlaster AE-5, G15, Streamdeck, DSD Flight, TM Warthog, VirPil BRD, MFG Crosswind CAM5, TrackIR 5, KW-908 Jetseat, Win 10 64-bit ”Pilots do not get paid for what they do daily, but they get paid for what they are capable of doing. However, if pilots would need to do daily what they are capable of doing, nobody would dare to fly anymore.”
Lange_666 Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 My first HOTAS was a cougar but I never really liked the feel or the accuracy of it during flying even after I did the nxt upgrade I still wasn't happy with its performance, so I sold it.:cry::cry: Honestly, i don't think you can buy anything up to that standard (moving stick that is). snuffles Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 I have to say - WOW. There are A LOT of fanboys on this forum. Sure you're going to get that anywhere, but WOW. You guys are sold. I don't always openly list my things. But when I do, I put it in my signature.
pii Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 imho the TM Warthog is a good HOTAS, but I don't worship the thing as some seem to. In fact, I find it can be really awkward for some sims or helicopters. I'm so pleased that I have alternatives to use for those (G940 is the HOTAS I use most - the FFB is a game changer, but have some basic ones, too, for older sims). The switches on the Warthog throttle are not ideal for some sims - again, the Ka50, for which you also would have to get used to the trimming system. Some do, some don't. If you don't, you'll hate Ka50 and never touch it. Just wanted to give an alternative view, as to me the Warthog has its faults, too ;) (also not the only one to think this - links to such views can be provided) Just an FYI the G940 has been discontinued and if you can still find one it is more $$ than a WH.

IF you research the TM WH you will find almost universal agreement that its a 5 star product and even though some of the other sticks are nice their satisfaction ratings aren't even close. There is a reason for it, that doesn't make me a fanboy it makes me a satisfied customer.

311Gryphon Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 I have to say - WOW. There are A LOT of fanboys on this forum. Sure you're going to get that anywhere, but WOW. You guys are sold. We're sold because the TM Warthog is made of metal, works, is intuitive and easy to use, reliable, resilient (again, every part that can be made of metal is), etc. The ONLY downside is the price, but I spent a lot of time researching various options for sticks, throttles, and pedals. The absolute best alternative I could find for less than $200 (just for a stick and throttle) was the Saitek X52 or X52 Pro. But it had very mixed reviews and I'm not throwing $100 plus at mixed reviews. My next option was from CH but I couldn't really get a good feel for what actually was included with those, what connections they had, and I would still have a lot of mapping to do. Then there was the Cougar. That idea got tossed thanks to the hefty price tag and the force sensing. That left me with the Warthog. As much as I hated to spend that money, I found a used TMWH and Saitek Pro Combat pedals and got them all for less than a new TMWH by itself. I had a small amount of buyer's remorse while waiting for the shipment to arrive. The first time I flew the remorse was gone. Therefore, I'm a satisfied customer. You can call me a fan as well if you'd like. I think most people here have had similar experiences. But I can say for myself that I try to be a bit cheap. I spend most of my free money on guns and ammo because I shoot a lot so it takes a lot for me to spend that kind of money on computer peripherals. And it takes even more for me to be satisfied. I'm very satisfied with the Warthog. http://www.youtube.com/user/311Gryphon i7-8700, 32 GB DDR4 3000, GTX 1080 TI 11GB, 240 GB SSD, 2TB HDD, Dual (sometimes Triple) monitor, TM Warthog HOTAS, Saitek Pro Combat Pedals, TrackIR [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Zzenith Posted June 2, 2013 Author Posted June 2, 2013 Just thought you know that I did eventually decide to purchase the WARTHOG and Saitek Combat Pedals. I cant believe just how good the WARTHOG is, its far better than I'd hoped it would be, a massive improvement even over the nxt couger. It makes the game so much more enjoyable when you can actually make the accurate adjustments when flying and strafing runs are now a breeze. The throttle to me though is an absolutely amazing piece of kit especially the movement of the throttle levers.. doesn't matter how slow you move them there is no stiction whatsoever which allows for extremely accurate changes in thrust and with all the buttons and switches.. its just to die for. All in all I cant recommend this HOTAS enough it just oozes quality from the heavy metal finish to the accuracy of the movement of the axis. If you are in the market for a new HOTAS and can afford this one.. seriously buy it.. you wont regret it. Many thanks for all the help and advice given

Zzenith Posted June 3, 2013 Author Posted June 3, 2013 Trust me am very happy to be a member of the fan club and even if this bad boy breaks within a few years there is no way am going back to the current line up of CH products, they are going to have to design a new product that exceeds the WARTHOG if they want to win back my custom.
