Taproot Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Hey This q has been answered many times, and now it is time again to reply again. I am on the look out for rudders. I have from previous threads narrowed it down to CH pro rudders, Saitek Pro Rudders or Saitek Pro Combat. However, when I was reading one of the threads on guy mentioned that you had to fasten the combat pedals to the floor, or they will slide all over the place. Well, this is not an option for me.. So, I am on the lookout for one of those three, but I: A) Have to buy the one that sticks to the floor the best b) Secure it to the floor one way that wont destroy the floor. So. Suggestions? jay43 Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Depends on your floor really is it wood ceramic carpet vinyl would help to know. If its a smooth floor get some Velcro tape the sticky one that works for me and won't destroy the floor even if its wood as the residue can be cleaned of with a little acetone. If its carpet its possible to screw it down without causing any damage to carpet except for point loading marks which will go away by simply leaving an ice cub to melt onto the affected area and left to dry naturally it will cause the fibres to float back up. Place it on the carpet and using as pointed tool gently put some pressure marks through the holes, when you move it out of the way you should see the marks, now using the tip of pointed tool open up the fibres of the carpet to separate them this is what we in the trade call row dividing as carpet is woven in rows, you should see the backing now and this is where you want to get the screws to go through as there will be no damage to the backing. dave4002000 Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Even though i'm not a fan of the CH Products joysticks, i have to say their Pro Pedals have served me well for many years. I've had the same set for over 6 years and they are still going strong. At this rate, i'm starting to think they are going to outlast my Cougar..lol. I've only ever used them on carpet, but i've never had any issue with them sliding around during use. I don't fasten or secure them in any way. will go away by simply leaving an ice cub to melt onto the affected area and left to dry naturally it will cause the fibres to float back up. I'd love to know how someone figured out that using an ice cube works like that..lol. I mean, was some guy's wife complaining about the carpet and he was like "hell, i don't know..just put an ice cube on it"? USAF Bomber Avionics Specialist, Ret. It goes back to the old days before mechanical stretchers were invented as the installers would install the carpet then water it with a watering can to shrink it to pull out the wrinkles I suppose they noticed it took out point loading imprints. 9.JG27 DavidRed Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 (edited) i have done something similar to that one shown in the vid... the idea was mainly the same, but instead of fixing the pedals with tape on the plate, i cut a hole into the plate where the pedals fit in exactly...besides, i didnt use a wooden plate, it isnt even a plate, it is a rubber mat, approximately 3cm thick, where i cut in the hole for the wheel of my deskchair and the one where the pedals are placed in. cost was about 3euros, and time invested about 5minutes.... Hempstead Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 I simply take a long 1/2" D stainless steel rod and put it in front of the two rear legs of the table, then wedge the rudder against the rod. Works like a charm, and the position of the rudder is just right too.
Tetra Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 I have the Saitek pro's, the velcro strips that come included with them are perfectly good enough to prevent any movement, even stuck to the carpet tiles I have on my floor. My Mods: Radar Warning Receiver Audio Expansion G-Breath Sound Mod
Hadwell Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 ya i just got a big piece of plywood and put it between the wall and my pedals so they don't slide forwards when i push on them, using the saitek pro pedals as well... on a wood panel floor... schkorpio Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 That roger dodger video is probably the best solution, you could also do it with some carpet or a rug. Or of course http://obutto.com/?page_id=2796 lol :) Sponsored by: http://www.ozpc.com.au
cichlidfan Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Or of course http://obutto.com/?page_id=2796 lol :) I agree, an Obutto is an excellent solution for securing your pedals. :P ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! TigersharkBAS Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Wow...so many high tech solutions. Wanna know my low tech solution that works excellently?? I have wooden parquet floor and Saitek Combat Rudder pedals. They ship with velcro strips. You apply one set of strips to the pedals and the other to the floor. I didn't want to stick something to floor so my low tech solution. A bath mat.....yes....a bath mat. Buy a cheap, rubber backed bath mat from Ikea, put rudder pedals on map. Velcro sticks to mat, mat doesn't slip due to rubber backing on floor. Voila.....stable and cozy under your feet during winter months :music_whistling: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Creator of: F-18C VFA-195 "Dambusters" 1998 CAG Livery https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=213788 F-18C VFA-195 "Dambusters" July 2001 CAG Livery https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=215950 Pilot avatars for DCS Logbook https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=221160 How to make a DCS A-10C Panel http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=65998
