Dudester22 Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 I know it's down to preference, but I was looking to have this looking nice and real. At the moment it looks quit nice around spring time at 8.15pm, but I am wondering if there is a better setting. I find day time a bit bland when it comes to looking at the scenery and the ground textures. However, it seems to make it much more realistic as it get's darker. I might have to try a dawn flight when I get sometime though. Does anyone else only fly when it's darker or is it just me who finds it better? I just hope this doesn't ruin my chances of finding and hitting targets when I eventually get to grips with this Sim.
311Gryphon Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 I've flown at dusk and it was interesting. To be more precise, I was starting up the 'Hog with the sun still up and waiting on my flight leader to get started up I watched the sun go down and some planes fly into the base we were at. We where wheels up about official dusk and by the time we got to the target area it was mostly night with some light still coming over the western horizon. I don't know if it looked more real or not. The flight leader had tags on and that just kills the immersion for me. It looked nice. It was fun and a good departure from daytime flying. I will say that with tags off I'd have had a little trouble finding targets but that's nothing new. I have trouble in daytime. So now that you bring it up, I'll have to fly some more dawn and dusk missions and see how it is. http://www.youtube.com/user/311Gryphon i7-8700, 32 GB DDR4 3000, GTX 1080 TI 11GB, 240 GB SSD, 2TB HDD, Dual (sometimes Triple) monitor, TM Warthog HOTAS, Saitek Pro Combat Pedals, TrackIR [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Wrecking Crew Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Many of the missions on my Hollo Pointe server will go through day and night changes. A few are night-only: Ants, Pirates Of The Crimean, Nuke Plant is up now and it is prolly nighttime in it about now. sgtmike74 Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Do anybody know if flying at night helps with MANPADS? I know the missile can see heat at night but what about the crew? Do they use Therms or NODs at all. Any difference in engagement ranges when acquiring targets?
WildBillKelsoe Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 you should try a campaign mission in dynamic weather. Just pure challenge. AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

Just ran a quick mission, flying at 6K feet. During clear day, got four manpads, at least, up the backside of my GEs. With heavy clouds, not one shot. Cleared the clouds and tried it at 2300 (11pm): same as clouds, no shot.
Nealius Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 I've always liked the winter scenery. Snow looks awesome too but presents lots of problems with the TGP for me.

Bring on the night then!!! I like those dusk to night transitions missions. I've flew a few over on the 104th and really enjoyed it. Even the Su25t was fun flying SEAD in the blackness of nights relying only on my instruments. Very fun. Edited June 19, 2013 by sgtmike74 Correction
