Frostie Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 But perhaps a 3rd party can pick up the SM. Maybe ED will even help in some ways by offering to let it happen on top of their Su-27S FM ... who knows? This is probably the most realistic route for an SM to appear in DCS. Though I'm sure if ED made a lite SM on the same fidelity level as the A-10A, Su25, F-15 and Su27 ubifree modules it would be snapped up by the bucket load. Personally it's sad but understandable why ED themselves can't yet bring us a fully DCS'd SM, I half expected it. But a fully modeled Su27S is the next best thing, the only response from me in that regard is one of pure joy. "[51☭] FROSTIE" #55 'Red 5'. 159th_Falcon Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 in google typed "su-27SM" and went to images. What i found in less then 5 minutes; Surely, you can't make an fully fledged DCS SU-27SM out of this, though it does show you can find more about the MFD's and what they display to the pilot then that first picture GG posted. So an SM variant at FC3 SU-25/SU-25T level may well be possible. And if were lucky maybe even some kind of intermediate FC-DCS level module. ps, to GGTharos and SiThSpAwN Thank's for your reply's to my earlier post, fair enough i guess. ~S~ [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] The keeper of all mathematical knowledge and the oracle of flight modeling.:)

GGTharos Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Yep, I found the same stuff, but my point stands; our knowledge is limited to this. Compare to detailed knowledge of all the sounds in a Su-27 cockpit for example, or even what the RWR looks like when something's pinging your plane. I think you get the idea - that's why I said making a DCS version of the 27SM is not really a possibility. in google typed "su-27SM" and went to images. otto Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 (edited) So will any Su-27SM, Su-35, Su-30AnyVersion etc. If you can compare SU-27sm with F35 wich is a developing project like pak-fa for example than i rest my case. Are there 100% exact info on AA missiles like aim 120 c? No but they are still present in the game. If you were paying attention i was responding to someone about absolut realism.which is impossible to achieve in a simulation. My general idea was to have both the f35 and Su-27 in DCS. It's not normal to have a simulation where on one side you have the most modern available planes and on the other you have an 80's jet.We will be playing online F15E vs F18 or something. So what is the point of realism then. ED people are profesionals so i belive they had all needed info before anouncing the project. It is ilogical to start a project and get the info on the go. Edited August 15, 2013 by otto 2

I agree that an FC3 module could be made from these, though some of those screens will still be guesses - like how the right and center screens work and if there is anything special shown on them at different times. I'm guessing they are in navigation mode, but what do they look like in A2A and A2G modes? How is the radar displayed on them? I'm also sure some educated guesses could be done as far as what pages can be included that you don't see - you check to see what instrumentation is missing in the SM cockpit that can be found in the standard 27, and you can reasonably assume the screens will display that information somewhere on a page. Unfortunately an FC3 version is likely all that can be done with this information at the moment. Which if that is all we can get so be it (better than nothing ED, hint hint), I had just believed in the beginning that they had the info for a high-fidelity 27SM and got excited for that. If they could take the 27S high fidelity they will create and just added in the screens and the extra weaponry, I could live with that even if some of the screens are just guesses. But I can understand if ED wouldn't want to do that, since they have a specific standard for their high-fi modules. z3PhC1NlF0k sooo, how much does it cost to get inside of this? That matches with some of the videos I've seen where you get brief glances, though while you still don't get an eye full of screen at all times, it does have a little more detail then the ones I have. Problem is, both in this video and the ones I have, you can clearly see the left screen, but you really can't tell how the right screen is operating. One can easily figure out the left screen from still images, but the right screen would be a nice one to see in operation. Would be nice if ED can get seat time with it, but I have a feeling that won't happen. I can't understand what they are saying in the video so I don't know who the man is in the pilot seat, but I imagine a one time demonstration or a news reporter getting a story might be one thing. Saying that you'd like to get seat time with this so you can replicate it in a video game - that might be a different story. The F-35 is in LRIP, it's done 'developing' ... yes, there are problems that are discovered and things that must be fixed, but it's not some science/R&D project. It's an aircraft that's about to go operational with maintenance squadrons already training on it. The T-50 isn't anywhere near that. ED people are profesionals so i belive they had all needed info before anouncing the project. It is ilogical to start a project and get the info on the go.And I believe that you aren't listening. The info isn't out there, or more to the point, if they do have anything beyond what's in the youtube videos and internet pics, they really do risk being accused of treason. I was not joking. Get it? NoJoe Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 So I'll be brave and be one of the few here to say: I'm really looking forward to a DCS Su-27S! I think it would be a fun module to learn. It's unfortunate that we won't get the SM, but oh well. The S is still a cool airplane. As a Flanker fan, I can't see how this is a bad thing! --NoJoe
Dr_Arrow Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 I don't understand all the fuss about having Su-27S ... it will be a blast for sure and better fits the era of 90ties than the super modern Su-27SM(X) that is in constant development and several incarnations have already been made. I am sure that the DCS S version will bring good foundations for more modern Flanker versions that may arrive in the future.

I was very much looking forward to an Su-27SM and I'm not going to lie and say I wasn't bummed out by the news, but I'll take an Su-27S high-fidelity. At least some Flanker module is coming down the road. Another thing we should keep in mind is that Wags never said there will never be an SM, just that they changed their mind and did an S for now. Hell plenty (if not most) of their staff is Russian and I'm sure they'd love to do an SM, if ED could do it at the level they wanted I have no doubt they would do so. Like GG and Spawn said, obviously something happened and they couldn't do it. Now the third parties seem to be the ones being allowed to do more speculative aircraft, but none have volunteered to do any modern Russian planes yet. So it is just an "S" for now, and that's not a bad thing. FlankerNation Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 hmmmm ? I don't believe there is enough publicly available information on the Su-27SM for ED to a DCS module (but perhaps they will consider making an FC level module of it?) ED is based in Russia, not the USA. If there is leaked info and they do use it, they can quite easily end up being accused of treason. Hmmm.... OK CG I have to admit you got point here and of course we need to understand ED positions also. But there's always a way and I have an Idea, I m not sure on that thought just struck to me right now but let me get back to with a solution in a few days.
