Nate--IRL-- Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 I've gone from a Core 2 E8400 and ATI 4980 bought 7 years ago to a 4650K@4.4ghz and a 670@1019mhz, the difference is unbelievable. I've gone from an average of 22fps (something I've always considered normal) to 60-100fps. I'm blown away. Everything is fluid and smooth. Ability to control aircraft has immeasurably improved (especially dogfighting in the P-51). Nothing seem to dent performance anymore (multiple Smerch attacks are no bother at all), Also got myself a nice 27" monitor. The Whole sim has changed for me, it's like I'm discovering something new all over again. Best money I've spent in a long long time. Cali Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 That would be expected, 7 years is a VERY long time. i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
hegykc Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Heh, thenks for the encouragement :) I'm kind of in the same boat: Quad core Q6700 at 2.66ghz and Nvidia GTX 9800+ 512mb, bought some 5 years ago. Even went with a 27" monitor recently, for work purposes. So the sim is unplayable at the moment. Was thinking of going with a similar setup as you described, nice to know I have a lot to look forward to. Only question is, go triple screen, or wait and see how Oculus rift does. www.replikagear.com

Rhinox Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 I've gone from a Core 2 E8400 and ATI 4980 bought 7 years ago May I ask who made that CPU for you? Intel released Core2Duo E8400 in Q1/2008, that is no more than 5 and half years ago (real availability was a few months later). So if you bought it 7 years ago, someone made it especially for you more then one year before oficial release... Concering ATI 4980, I'd like to hear more about it. Especially because this has never been released by ATI. Highest single-gpu model of 4k-series was 4890. This was released in 04/2009, that's ~4 years ago.

Spot on - > I had an E6300 initially and blagged my brothers E8400 when he got a Q6600 :) Regarding the ATI card yep your right - got the numbers backwards. Had a 7800GS before that I think. Boberro Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 I changed PC after 5 years. 20 FPS which I considered fluid (especially in BS at extreme low settings) to more than 50 in full details :) It was extreme change, however DCS: World (or previous) ED's products are poorly optimized, not due to team fail, but just engines flaws. Still 3 cores are unused, I am not sure about GPU cores though. Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
mmtaraval Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Went from a 2008 2.66ghz Mac Pro and an ati 3000 to my sig, and threw in a 24" asus monitor for good measure, that was a little over a year ago and I still giggle at the quality difference. I can't wait to see the changes in another 7 years. i7-4790k stock 4.4 / gtx 980ti / 16gb ram / 256gb ssd (os) / 256gb ssd for apps / Acer XB27OHU 27" g-sync

BHawthorne Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 With the 4670K and 4770K out now I'll probably pick up a Z77 and 3770K combo used. I'm currently X58 and 930. I'm not seeing enough difference in the 4770K to justify buying new. I still want to upgrade a bit though. :)

metalnwood Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 So your job on the ED testers team was to test minimum system specs still work on each release ;)
Nate--IRL-- Posted August 28, 2013 Author Posted August 28, 2013 So your job on the ED testers team was to test minimum system specs still work on each release ;) Heheh, not quite. That said, my old system did show up stuff causing FPS hits rather well. But overall it held it's own quite well at relatively High settings. To me 15-25FPS has been the norm for me in any sim for decades. But with the addition of more n more High Poly models, things would have gotten slower and slower as time goes on. It was time to retire it. Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading
