Really for me, realism=DCS A10. don't think it can be surpassed for home based PC

Oh I won't surpass DCS that's pretty much a given, but they're not striving for DCS fidelity anyway so that's alright. As long as it's somewhere between LOMAC and DCS I'll be happy, throw a little FALCON in there as well . If anything it will be nice to mix up with the theatre of war. Different planes etc so it doesn't have to compete directly with DCS series, but can be a nice side sim. I will be a little disappointed if it's a Birds of Prey/Apache Air assault type of game, not that there's anything wrong with those titles, just not how I want to spend my harrier or Pucara time. :pilotfly:

There is potential here and this potential has a release date (well rough one) :)

Im not expecting Jet Thunder to be of the same fidelity as any DCS module, but that's okay. Im just happy that I get to fly the Harrier :D

SIMHQ:

From Thunderworks news dated 1 Jan 2011:

Happy New Year Everyone!

Are the wishes of Aerosoft and Thunderworks. We have accomplished a lot in 2010. For example, in the 2 to 3 months following our signing with Aerosoft, we added the following features:

- Clickable cockpits with animated switches

- Several HUD modes for the Harrier, including Reversionary mode

- Gunsight with depression settings, set wingspan, range etc

- New clouds method, able to render cloud formations at up to 120km distance with very little overhead (previous method was limited by sector size, causing severe pop up artifacts, and so was replaced)

- Cockpit self-shadows

- Time of day 24hrs simulation (displaying constellations at night, etc)

- New and improved models for several types of Anti-Aircraft units used in the 1982 conflict

- New AI helicopters

...and more; effectively setting JT firmly in the track of being a realistic sim focused in a specific public (true flight simmers of course!)

Good news! I hope to see them continue to pursue the challenging path of realism... it pays! :)

Interesting little insight on the development of Jet Thunder;

Dante: This is an interesting question that affects directly our experience. Our lead programmer and cofounder, Steven, has worked for 3 years for THQ in a console product in the same style as Tom Clancy's HAWX. It requires a lot of investment (financial) to develop and promote a product like this; they don't have FM, DM, campaigns or anything, but they must have absolutely killer, cutting edge graphics, amazing CG cut-scenes with real actor or high-quality computer generated actors, excellent voiceovers (sometimes by well-known voice artists or even actors/celebrities), lots and lots of modern, real world vehicles and aircraft with licensing rights to pay for, expensive original orchestrated soundtrack, SDKs and licenses for every gaming platform out there, it's basically a Hollywood production costing quite like it with a very large staff backing it.

Basically, when I knocked in the doors of some publishers to offer Jet Thunder (JT), they suggested to transform it into a HAWX-clone so they can sell it more easily and in much higher quantities. We can't turn Jet Thunder into HAWX — a flight sim for PC and an arcade flight action game for consoles are two completely different products, they have nothing in common except airplanes in it. It would be easier and faster to make a parallel product under a completely different codebase.

Summing up, we didn't pursue that market because it feels like (in an analogy to film industry) doing an Avatar-type multi-million blockbuster before you do your indie-intellectual movie oriented to a specific niche. It is less risky to be running with much lower costs with a product aimed for a specific niche (this is a very important hint for this business!).

We would had sunk a couple millions in a risky HAWX clone, thankfully we didn't. Console blockbuster territory *is* risky. The game that Steven worked for THQ, "Stormbirds", ended-up cancelled, because it was too risky and the cost to promote and release was nearing what was spent on developing it so they thought it was better to just pull the plug on it than to spend more.

I wonder how you guys are able to play decently all those games:

It is a challenge to keep afloat, really enjoy, and fly decently at the same time:

Awesome work: Most used button: "Radio mute"

I loled at the chrono fixed on the panel. And men what a bromstick the manche is, HOTAS concept never reached the cockpit.

A little update I read over on the A2A forums from one of the project manager himself.

"yeah yeah, we know. Mea culpa.

While the previous new date was a rather serious change in the whole idea we had on Jet Thunder (adding the Pucara to make it a two sided ground attack release) this time it is just a delay. The curse of software development, any building work and cleaning up your hard disk. You plan to get it done on schedule but it just does not happen. We simply did not manage to get the files done in time and the crew that works on it is really getting worn down. Weeks of 100 hours are more or less standard.

For a small part this is due to 'feature-creep'. As we are closing down it is hard to avoid adding small things that seem very important. All things that need to be inserted, tested, documented etc. For a bigger part it is due to underestimating the work, also something that seems linked to any development. You plan for it but in the end it always bites you in the backside.Blame me, I am the project manager and do not blame the developers.

So what happens now? We'll it is clear that Jet Thunder is a major project for us. Although we intend to update the project aggressively based on customer feedback I will not push the developers to release something that they do not like. Initially it is a download release (as all sims these days) so we do not have dates with shops and printers. We only got to deal with you, the customer. But we are not giving a new date but we will keep on showing process. No matter what we are talking weeks not months.

What was done today? Check out this ejection seat. Tomorrow it will be unwrapped and textured. But it does show that we are not rushing this product in this vital moment, right?"

The cockpit does look pretty amazing. I just hope it has the detail in the FM and damage modeling as well.

It scares me that they even mention flight dynamics...

Is this a Pucara in the Falklands simulator? How did this make it onto PC? DCS Pucara?

We need Arma Falklands - it wasnt exactly an air war, ship sim, Para Sim, sub sim, anti air sim, rescue heli sim, anti ship sim standoff exocet.

Bless the Argies, it must really annoy them that we could defend a island so far away whilst they couldnt take it from close!

Wonder if the 2 Eurofighters could take out the Argies today, i recon the odds are in our favour even if we dont have a task force!

Saw this video and I was actually pretty disappointed. Progress appears slow, but I suppose the point was to demonstrate the ground AI. Still...

 All the makings of a crappy political argument, right here. Just add Argentinians.

I was sure it was going to be quite detailed from what I read a while back BTW whats with the dial next to the sight?

BTW, the "dial next to the sight" is a timer. Count the number of numerals. I would have said clock but it ain't moving. :D

The one to the right? I think that adjusts the size of the gunsight reticle.

Well it might be to you but it has alot of potential it could lead to a series of sims for the cold war and don't knock it until you've seen all their videos. It will have a dynamic campaign as well.
