lmp
Nice vid indeed... only there was no vortex ring, the landing was done correctly. The turbulence you see is exiting ETL, not VRS.

AlphaOneSix
I'm pretty sure that's not the parking brake sound... but I'm at a loss as to what it could be.
Devrim
Hmm. May be I selected wrong word. Isn't it like a hydraulic sound that we hear right after squeezing the lever? Skulleader
Hello guys, and we hear parking brake sound very loudly. Devrim at 9:26 we can hear the "wheel brake" and at 9:28 we can see the pilote press the button for the "parking brake" but I can't hear the sound, no ? But I found this video very awesome, a real tutorial... Thanks for this great video. Devrim
Because (in my opinion) by squeezing brake, he has already increased the hydraulic pressure. After that he has just pressed button, that's it. The hydraulics are still in high pressure. Rogue Trooper
Nice video, good to see the MI-8 shake in transition. I miss the loud hydraulic brake. HP G2 Reverb, Windows 10 VR settings: IPD is 64.5mm, High image quality, G2 reset to 60Hz refresh rate as standard. OpenXR user, Open XR tool kit disabled. Open XR was a massive upgrade for me. DCS: Pixel Density 1.0, Forced IPD at 55 (perceived world size), 0 X MSAA, 0 X SSAA. My real IPD is 64.5mm. Prescription VROptition lenses installed. VR Driver system: I9-9900KS 5Ghz CPU. XI Hero motherboard and RTX 3090 graphics card, 64 gigs Ram, No OC at the mo. MT user (2 - 5 fps gain). DCS run at 60Hz. Vaicom user. Thrustmaster warthog user. MFG pedals with damper upgrade.... and what an upgrade! Total controls Apache MPDs set to virtual Reality height with brail enhancements to ensure 100% button activation in VR.. Simshaker Jet Pro vibration seat.. Uses data from DCS not sound.... you know when you are dropping into VRS with this bad boy.
agentkgb
Guys, I may be wrong, but that parking brake on the Mi-8 isn't air operated? At least that sound cannot be heard on hydraulic systems AFAIK. Like a big truck, (well older one), whose brake system is air operated and not fluid (hydraulic) like in a car. So in case it is hydraulic, we shouldn't hear anything at all. If it is air operated, well it depends how far the buffer tank is located from the cockpit but it definitely should have a distinguishable sound like what we had... But then we should have the air compressor sound aswell, if it is not far from the cockpit :) - KGB - [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Zarni
Guys, I may be wrong, but that parking brake on the Mi-8 isn't air operated? [quote=TECHNICAL MANUAL HELICOPTER, UTILITY Mi-17 HELICOPTER OPERATOR'S MANUAL] 2-7 Landing Gear The landing gear system is a tricycle configuration consisting of two non-retractable main landing gear (M/L/G) and a nose landing gear (N/L/G). A fixed tail strut is mounted at the base of the vertical stabilizer to prevent the tail rotor from striking the ground during takeoff and landing. The nose and main gear, and the tail strut have hydraulic/nitrogen shock struts to absorb normal and high impact landings. The main gear wheels are equipped with pneumatic disc brakes. The brakes are applied by squeezing the brake lever on the pilot’s cyclic stick. The brakes are disengaged by releasing the brake lever. A retainer holds the lever in the engaged position for parking. Pressure in the main brake line is indicated on the MA-60 BRAKE PRESSURE gauge on the pilot’s left side console. When the brakes are applied, the pressure should be 30 to 36 kgf/cm2. Pressure reading on the gauge should be zero when the brakes are released. Google "TSMO-Dash-10-(TM-1-1520-Mi-17-10,-Apr-07).pdf", you can find official manual. Everything is possible except skiing through revolving doors. agentkgb
Then I was right, thanks Zarni. I already have that manual, just couldn't check it. So it is NOT hydraulic, rather pneumatic (gas-operated). - KGB - [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
AlphaOneSix
The brakes are not hydraulic. When pressing the brake lever, you get an air sound... I'll try to record and post it real quick...

GregP
Awesome little video, AlphaOneSix. Guys, how cool is it that we have a fellow DCS fan who can quickly whip up little clarifications like that by just walking outside and making a 10-second video?!?! AlphaOneSix
I'm also doing rotor tracking so I got about an hour of stick time today. It's fun, but after a while I just get sick of it. (rotor smoothing, not flying) EDIT: I'm just glad I have something substantive to offer. I was initially "hired" by Wags to help test the upcoming AH-64A module....but everything was subject to change then, too....and it did.

AlphaOneSix
Well I don't think it was any secret that ED initially "planned" to release the AH-64A after the Ka-50, but it never really passed that planning stage as far as those of us outside of ED were concerned. Then they started on the A-10C and the rest is history.
