Just a thought, you might want to spray the panel before you start wiring, unless you are going to keep it wood coloures and just use the plexi overlays, but if you paint it black, its more forgiving of ill fitting panels?

I like it though!

Hey Mr. Burns,

thats selfexplaining that I paint it without the switches

i just wanted to see how it looks like. I curios how it will look like in black. At least I have a lot of spare space for other switches. waiting now for my thrustmaster mfd's to arrive.

I'll post the progress.

cheers

looks workable, but IMHO it is much more manageable with several individual panels then one solid piece.

the size of pictures in your post is huge, please try shrinking them down. other then that - good start

Thanks for your comment. sorry about the size. I forgot to shrink them down. will do it now. Thanks for telling me :) The reason why I build the one piece box is that I wanted originally simulate the middle console of the huey more or less. But during work I thought it might be a good thing to also make it available to other airplanes as well. Thats why I have the "black box" :)

I hope all the pics are in good size now :)

totday I will get the cabeling and hopefully it will be ready for combat until 20:15, when we have our squadron flight...

thanks to all for the comments and your support

Cheers,

ok. Always have in mind, that you first plan the layout of the panels and then drill the wholes. Stupid me did it the wrong way. I just drilled the wholes as I thought it might fit here and there. Now I did the decal stencil and had to discover, that I drilled the wholes to close to each other.

But see for your self:

not sure I understand your answer.

I do not see why middle console (or any other one for that matter) is better off with monolythic construction like that. Especially since you want hybrid instrumentation and paneling for multiple crafts. Feel free to build the way you see it of course, but it sounds like you already realized potential issues down the road )

Just my 0.02 worth off.

hmm, not sure if I understand your question now :smilewink: I wanted to emulate the middle console of the Huey. But during construction, I joined a squadron where I mainly fly the A-10C. So now I have that thing done and want to use it. It was already a hazzle to build it as I am no craftsman at all. So for now I am pretty happy with the result. I just wanted a tiny bit more immersion to DCS and with that switchpanel I get a lil closer to it :)

Ok guys, here comes the last and final update. I finished my work and I am pretty satisfied about it. I learned a lot and I would do things better in my next project. but here some lil pics of how it looks like now:

Cabeling:

I prefered a flatbandcabel like this. so you dont have tonns of single cable hanging around.

kabel.jpg

Than stripping the ends away:

kabel2.jpg

connect all the wires with the USB Card Box:

platine.jpg

Next step was to drill the wholes in the plexiglass and connect the switches:

schalter.jpg

and than I printed the decals with my laser printer and put it behind the plexiglas. Fixed the switches and voila:

Thanks for all who helped realizing this lil console :)

cheers,

Starting my home cockpit step by step

Ok. Gotta stop ya right there. It's that whole wife yelling kids angry, no it's worse - reverse that! Kids yelling wife angry!

Now I've only got 26 years of marriage behind me, with only one of them being pit related, but from experience this is where you must tread lightly if this project is to go to much further. You will find, if you are even remotely like the rest of us, that a pit wife needs to be happy. In fact, it's pretty much a requirement that she hovers above happy and into the ecstatic area. Does not matter about what.

Your primary goal from now on is to keep her happy no matter what, as she can have devastating consequences on the further outcome of your pit. Like it or not, an errant flip of her wrist can uproot the entire pit relegating it to the garage, or worse, the dumpster. On a whim, she can make you the happiest soul on the planet and approve the purchase of something as simple as a Phidgets card or as complicated as an entire FMT. (Looking at you DM)

Of course I could be wrong. After working these pits awhile, crazy seems to start looking like pit addiction. Sounds like a new reality show! Pit Addict. just way too late for me to even try and be witty, so good luck.

Oh great and wise MacFevre you speak great truth to the point Not only did the wife come with on the trip to pick up the beast(she did not believe i could drive the height of the U.S and not do some thing wrong) but she sat next to me in what ever mood she was in, did it bother me in the least not on the road and not at home once i go in to the Hanger it is still and AWW moment. ( as in I can't believe I have it) Then again I have dumped some serious cash in to the beast:doh:

CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.

True true... only got 17 years married here currently, THE main task of pit building is to have kids and wify 'agree' or the outcome would be some 'erratic', :pilotfly:
