sapounas Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Good day I'm planning to build a HOTAS WARTHOG myself, can anyone send me a 3d model of the thrustmaster hotas warthog throttle and joystick or the dimensions of them? Thank you in advance
cichlidfan Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 I suspect Thrustmaster is the only source for the level of detail you would require and I would imagine that they will be reluctant to provide it. ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! Extreme 8GB, Corsair HX1000i, Phillips BDM4065UC 40" 4k monitor, VX2258 TouchScreen, TIR 5 w/ProClip, TM Warthog, VKB Gladiator Pro, Saitek X56, et. al., MFG Crosswind Pedals #1199, VolairSim Pit, Rift CV1
Davis0079 Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 I imagine building something by using another companies blueprints or by directly coping it would not be appreciated by the original manufacturer or their legal department...admittedly you are not doing this to make a profit (I hope)....i just dont see them liking the fact that you want 3d dimensions so you can make one instead of purchasing a proper one from them....not how many companies do business.. It only takes two things to fly, Airspeed and Money.
sapounas Posted January 13, 2014 Author Posted January 13, 2014 I agree with ever you are saying, but: I don't have 337euros. The companies don't have any hotas like that made from plastic to be cheaper. I don't care about it to be a replica level hotas. I do it for me and myself alone. I will make it using some wood planks that i have in spare. I dunno why my thinking is so bad? I have already made a collective for my UH-1H with all the switches and stuff working, so what would keep me from doing a warthog also? My question is: If someone already has it and can share them with me? If not, no problem, I will design it in the dimensions that fit MY HAND! :)
metalnwood Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Making anything for yourself is fine, especially of a stick which is not the IP of thrust master whom themselves has made a copy of another product. I thought I had seen a model about somewhere but can't see one right now, this is the closest. It could be a start http://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/3dsmax-fighter-jet-stick/620141
Davis0079 Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 if I were you...instead of coping a TM product...why not copy what they copied...the A-10 controls.....you may even find a real set for sale to be able to make your hotas with....and you may even find a better set from a different airframe that fits your purpose better....dismanteled military hardware is a "dime a dozen" in many places....cant afford a TM warthog hotas set, get a real set.... http://www.aircraftspruce.com/menus/el/gripspistolstick.html or http://www.boneyard2u.com/boneyard2u.html good luck on your adventure It only takes two things to fly, Airspeed and Money.
Extranajero Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 What are you thinking of as a construction method ? wood, I know - but how will you hollow it out to fit the switches and wiring ? --------------------------------------------------------- PC specs:- Intel 386DX, 2mb memory, onboard graphics, 14" 640x480 monitor Modules owned:- Bachem Natter, Cessna 150, Project Pluto, Sopwith Snipe
Trueno Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 From my own experience, try to get a grip from an old joystick... I did my own HOTAS with an old Genius F-31 Keep trying men!!! I´m thinking to build a mini generic panel control Regards

I will use wood for start. That's why i would like to have a 3d model. I want to cut the model to layers and then using tiny screws or glue connect the layers. That's how you hollow it. You just build around the hollow :) So, i'm planning to use my not-used-for-long USBizi (microcontroller as it can offer the following: Your platform can be a USB Joystick connected to a PC. The following is supported: - 4 axes with 16-bit resolution, X, Y, Z and Z rotation. The position of an axis is reported as a value from –32,768 to +32,767. - 32 buttons from index 0 to 31. - Hat switch with 8 directions. so i will have 4 analog (collective, dual throttle, and later planning rudders) metalnwood many thanks for the model. If I could have the throttles it would be great, as i will start from there :) Trueno great job man!

Sokol1_br Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 (edited) Sapunas, Not wrong with you idea - some people already start yours HOTAS with wood: :) http://www.sukhoi.ru/forum/showthread.php?t=73623 http://www.sukhoi.ru/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=148204&d=1325941903 Done: http://www.avsim.su/forum/uploads/monthly_08_2013/post-14848-0-92736300-1377367654_thumb.jpg Start: http://www.avsim.su/forum/uploads/monthly_07_2013/post-14848-0-03496200-1373362523.jpg All depends of your skill. ;) You cut some work getting in eBay a old Thrusmaster F16 FLCS or F22 PRO for "A-10" looking grip. This drawing is for F-15 throttle, maybe you can adapt for A-10: http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/9887/throttleu.jpg Soko1 Edited January 13, 2014 by Sokol1_br
SkateZilla Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Laser Scanning might be the best option, then make the holes for buttons. or have one of the 3d Modders build you a Throttle/Stick Assembly. Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2), ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9) 3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs
hannibal Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 the time and effort (the time) spend is NOT worth the building a copy of the warthog... just spend the 400$ and be happy. if u wana go the cheaper route, check out the CH prodcuts fighterstick.. find me on steam! username: Hannibal_A101A http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197969447179
hegykc Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 If you want a look-alike, you can draw one by hand using online pictures. If you want a 3d cad model, it's going to be way more than 400$... www.replikagear.com

sapounas Posted January 14, 2014 Author Posted January 14, 2014 sokol1 you gave me exactly what I wanted! Dimentions of the throttles (as you say they are similar to f-15E) and the base. Thank you. I wasn't thinking about laser scanning or 3d cad or 3d printing, cause like you said, it's gonna be more expensive :) Thank everybody for the time you dedicate to my problem, I will post pictures as soon as I can,
sapounas Posted January 27, 2014 Author Posted January 27, 2014 Trueno said: Any update sapounas???? I´m waiting man, lol I am waiting for the parts ordered from ebay, usually it takes 1-2 months to arrive. I already started the base, will post pics when ready :)
sapounas Posted February 7, 2014 Author Posted February 7, 2014 Some progress in the general design. Still missing the switches and other stuff from ebay. For hat (Slew/MIC/Coolie) i will use on this version the analog hats from PSP because they are cheap (http://www.ebay.com/itm/3D-Analog-Joystick-Stick-Button-Replacement-Repair-Parts-for-Sony-PSP-1000-1001-/121214806287?pt=US_Video_Gaming_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item1c38f7290f) an it will only consume 2 analog ports in my arduino. If i would use hat switches it would be 4 pes hat, total 3x4=12 inputs... for Brake i have DIY a MON-OFF-MON switch to be MON-OFF-ON, because if i would order one it would cost near 20$ from ebay (i will post how to when i will take some pictures) For the rest are simple switches and MON buttons. For the analog throttle axis i will use potentiometer if i have spare on my arduino, if not i will use magnetic rotary encoders from AMS (they are I2C so no they consume both SDA & SCL) Enjoy the early built pictures
insomniac Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Hi Sapounas, you have an interesting project going! Any status updates? It has been a while...
sapounas Posted September 14, 2014 Author Posted September 14, 2014 I am still here , just I didn't have time to spare for this project during summer, so now that is winter again I will continue. For those who don't have sokol1 files with dimentions I attached a zip. throttle_a10c.zipFetching info...
ofcross Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 Hi! Awesome! Checking the files now! Waiting for more posts!
