  1. Hello, We need a new term like the classic "Luftwhiner" and I am surprised that someone hasn't invented it yet. Perhaps it is the difficulty of distinguishing between the following two areas: - In regards to the development of the Kamov (and various conspiracy theories) there has been a lot of whining here about ED abandoning fast jets, missile/sensor modeling etc. In particular a lot of people have said at one point or another that they will not buy BS unless "fast mover" combat is improved. - To a lesser extent there have been a number of complaints about modeling of "esoteric Russian aircraft that nobody wants", with the implication that everyone wants an F-14, (which some of us find rather insulting to non-Americans). We need a term for the first case (if not the second). It is all right and good for people to express their interests but it does get tedious when they don't recognize that other people may have an interest to. Any suggestions would be appreciated,

  2. That's crazy talk. It's the F/A-18 that everyone wants. I have a cool trendy nickname for the fast-jet whiners... ED's customers Seriously, who here bought LOMAC and FC so that they could fly helos?

  3. Do I detect some bitterness here Rugg? In all seriousness, we're all here to have fun. There's not much any of us can do to materially affect the decisions of ED, sooo . . . . just chill out and enjoy it. Start taking it too seriously and you'll turn into Mower. *ducks*

  5. Here are a couple of movies I made over the weekend: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=6MQOJmAG7tA http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Kt3cSNMk418 They are really aimed at the Falcon 4 crowd, but it speaks volumes that most of the graphics are from Lock On. The first one is a tongue in cheek girlie trailer - with a strong warning about the wrath likely to be incurred by anyone using illegally obtained software. The second one is a tutorial on how to drop cluster bombs. In F4AF it required eyes in the cockpit and 23 button presses. For those who demand clickable panels I say stick to Lock On: click click click and bombs away  DPS.

  6. I've spent quite a while putting together this collection of 10 missions for the A-10 to make up a campaign story line. The missions should be executed in order if you want to follow it :smilewink: The pack contains both Single player and 2 player co-op missions made in Flaming Cliffs 1.12b, unzip them into your missions folder, and go! Download from Lockonfiles I hope you have as much fun flying them as I did making them, here is the background for the first campaign from the first mission (don't worry, there not all this long!) ************************************ January 21st 2003 The Ukraine has be plunged into war. The Eastern Ukrainian provinces are Pro-Russia, wanting to join the 'New Russia' that Vladimir Putin has built from the tired and broken down Russia handed to him from Boris Yeltzin. Discovery of a massive oil field near Yakutsk, and new Natural gas deposits in the Barents sea in 2001 have meant that Russia has become cash rich in a relitavely short period of time. Following the discovery of these riches, many of the former USSR states have turned back to Mother Russia after many had failed to make independance work, and the Eastern provinces of Ukraine are just some of many former states and provinces asking to be welcomed back behind the Iron curtain of old. Southern and Western Ukraine however are still keen to become full member states of NATO. Controlling many of the oil assets of the nation, and having built close ties with the United States over the years. NATO is being torn appart with half being led by France, stating that full NATO membership can not be granted to a country that is in a state of turmoil, the other half being led by the United States stating that the process for the Ukraine to join has been underway since inauguration of the NATO Liaison Office in April 1999. In October 2002, Russia anexed the Ukrainian provinces of Chernhiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk and Donetsk at the invitation of the provincial governments. In November 2002 Turkey anounced that it was against full membership for the Ukraine and has stated that it will play no part in any confrontation with Russia, refusing to allow any military action from the NATO bases there. In December 2002 during the anexation of Poltava, there was what started out as a minor skirmish involving Russian forces being deployed to the province and local Ukrainian forces against the annexation. The Ukrainian forces took no hostile action, but blocked roads into the provinces capital. Whether through a break down in communications or by hostile intent, the Russian forces massively over reacted and fired on the units killing over 400 Ukrainian troops. Following this the United States, United Kingdom and Germany announced their intent to support the recognised Ukrainian government in Kiev despite NATO's concerns. You were deployed with the 52nd Fighter Wing to Simferopol air base in the Ukraine from your base at Spangdahlem in Germany, to support Ukrainian ground forces in the Crimean Province in the event of hostile action. The air wing consists of: 81st Fighter Squadron flying A-10's in the ground attack and Close Air Support role. 22nd Fighter Squadron flying F-16C's will conduct the Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses role. 23rd Fighter Squadron flying F-16C's will act as the wings Interceptors and provide Combat Air Patrols. Briefing: Yesterday hostilities in the Crimean province began with the runway at Kirovskoye being put out of action with runway denial weapons rendering the airfield useless. Engineer units are attempting to repair the runway, but mines were dropped with the runway denial weapons and clearing them is taking much longer than anticipated. Overnight Russian special forces captured the airfield and port at Kerch and the 1st Company of Russia's 5th Tank Regiment landed and are currently forming up to the west of the city of Kerch. The second Company has just landed at the port, and is making its way south-west from the city. The intent of the Russian forces is hostile, with a Ukrainian SU-24 recon aircraft being shot down by an SA-15 (TOR) SAM system over Kerch early this morning. As yet, air forces have not engaged one other, and CAPs are patrolling with a carefull eye on the other. Tasking: The Russian air defence network is getting stronger by the minute. At present however there is a gap in those defences to the south-west of Kerch. The new Tank company sighted unloading at Kerch this morning is bound for this area, and intelligence suggests that an SA-6 (KUB) system has recently been flown into the airfield at Kerch to cover them. Primary: Locate and destroy the SA-6 (KUB) battery before it has chance to deploy (near WP3) Secondary: Defence of the Ukranian forces at Vladislavovka (WP2) Threats: SA-15 (TOR) systems at Kerch Port and Kerch airfield. 2S6 (Tunguska) systems at Kerch airfield. MIG-29 Combat Air Patrols near Anapa. DO NOT aproach the port of Kerch beyond waypoint 4, as yet the Russian air forces have not entered Ukrainian airspace. ATC: Active runway for takeoff is 00L and landings is 00R Air corridors to and from the airfield are set, inbound to Simferopol is at 3000ft and outbound is at 2000ft. **************** It's been quite a long process to get these missions to this stage, if anyone finds any problems, or has feedback, it would be greatfully recieved... Thanks!

  7. Ok we didnt win but we did pretty well all things considering. Being my first Red flag I made the mistake of Wanting to "Escort" the frogs into the Box which may have been in RL the right thing to do but in this instance it meant we got there way too late. A special thanks to those who followed the intitial plan. it actually worked pretty well. with First blood in the A/A kills. Including the First Redflag ER kill by SCoRPIoN I myself didnt do too badly. Bagging 4 kills before copping a Slammer from STRIKER which came off his rails a fraction of a second before my ET hit him. Sorry STRIKER for the Spamming comment. If you have a look at the TAC VIEW though you'll agree that AIM120 took a pretty wierd course which lengthened the time it took to hit me. Special mention to Manawar, Mogas, Taipan, Wolverine Rock, blackG, Prinz and SAVO_SRVPSKI of DODGE flight. Very good flying. Disciplined and effective. Great Job! We will look at this match as a learning experrience. Till next time.

  9. Great idea centermass. At least we would know what's happening and why. Threads here disappear with no explanation what soever. Just like SK's last thread...Yeah his idea was..."special" but still it had over 10 pages of constructive posts. People weren't bashing at each other and everyone defended his ideas in a clean manner. Then I come back here and the whole thread is gone and I don't have a clue why. Yeah maybe it wasn't in ED's plan anyway but still...isn't a forum about discussion? That would be so great. There's really a lack on input from ED on this forum. And I think that's part of why there's so much frustration around here nowadays. Yes I know, there was Wag's announcement a few days ago and he will do another one soon but apart from that what did we get from ED? The last infos we had goes back in March. Chizh and Dmut used to come here once in a while to give us small update but now they only seem to go on the russian forum. I know english isn't there language but russian isn't ours. I think GA's solution is the best here. If they could give us regular reports of what's being worked on at the moment it would satisfy a bunch of us! And I guess they trust enough their beta testers to give them this kind of information (at least I hope so).

  10. So when is the GAZ-66 sim coming out? That seems to be the direction things are heading. Slower and.....slower.

  11. I don't remember saying that. Even if I knew the answer, I wouldn't say it. Even if ED knew the answer - I wouldn't believe them. Remember "there will be no problems with StarForce?" I ike to talk about the present, not the future. You must be confusing me with other people in that deleted thread, to whom I couldn't answer one way or the other. I referred their questions to the thread with the end-of-July update. No worries this time, but please - this is the first day in eight years when I can speak for myself. Don't take that away from me - not just yet. ;) Cheers, -SK

  13. So maybe it's just simply the Name "LockOn" combined with the name "Blackshark" that leads to statements like "those who bought LOMAC didn't want to fly a helo". It's that change of direction within that game title that brings the problems with it IMHO. Maybe world would look far different if BS would have been a standalone product from the very beginning. As FC began the big unbalance, BS is the height. I like all those high poly models and the way they simulated the chopper but it looks kind of unfitting within the V1.00 flyables. That's all... Unbalance...

  14. @ Avimus: Ahem, it wasn't a whine, simply a question. Perhaps its the air being thinner...all the way up there on the moral high ground...that must have got you confused huh? Everyone else: Thanks for the prompt, constructive and informative responses. I'll be flying the BS in whatever guise it takes...am just thinking as far in advance as possible for all the training and multiplayer missions etc, as the helo will fall under the auspices of the Bomber Wing which, as the CO, means I need to consider some "joined up" scenarios with Frog drivers as well as many other things.

  15. You're not seriously suggesting that past products should dictate a software companys entire future development? As far as I can figure out, the most anyone will have paid for Lomac/FC is about $60, rather less if they came to it later. They now have 8 jets, modelled pretty well, looking good, still fun to fly, and you'll most likely get another patch to fix the jet that has a couple of errors. ED are even going back to fast jets after the Ka50, and they'll be at the Ka50's level of detail . . . . which will, by the way, blow your mind. So what's to complain about? Is this JetWhining just a display of impatience that ED aren't working on the aircraft you want NOW NOW NOW!? Some people complained about the Su25T being the subject of Flaming Cliffs - well here's exactly the same thing all over again. A bunch of the people who complained vociferously about that jet now fly it perfectly happily . . . . just get over it and add another string to your virtual aviation bow.

  16. Usually I view forum arguments as the biggest waste of your life you can think of and the banter is just a lot of "handbags at dawn". However this seems to be affecting some of the more popular and helpful forum members, which inevitably evolved into an "I'm Spartacus so ban me too" situation which was bound to happen and I'm sure comes as no big surprise to anyone. I think most definitely some transparency would be helpful for all concerned especially for those that say members were banned for no reason or those like myself that miss the offending post or behavior and are left wondering WTF is going on. If members were told publicly why they were banned after the offending post then this whole debate could be avoided becasue we could all see exactly what went on, instead of members filling in the blanks themselves and choosing sides which just makes the forum less fun to visit. I mean airing things like that publicly would be the best way IMO and forget about the idea of privacy becasue what is there to be private about on a public forum? It's not like we're lawyers going to court against each other, this is just a forum for a game of all things so if you're going to get banned for a post you made publicly then why not be told publicly you are banned for X days for X reason?

  20. At first I wasn't even sure if I should write a reply in this post, and I'm aware that I might be stepping on some toes here, but I couldn't resist. So here goes. Why does this thread even exist (yes, I know that I'm adding to it by answering)? Not to play a mod or anything (I thank whatever gods I have left that I'm not, since I'd go postal 18 times per day), but is forum-moderation discussable? Last time I checked, the Internet, and this forum, wasn't a democracy, and freedom of speech doesn't exist in a private forum like this actually is. You can say what you want, but don't expect to not have a mod drop a 2000lbs JDAM on you if you break the rules. That's the way of things. Yes, frustrations are easy to come by. As all of us know, there's frustrations all around us in general and in Lock On more specifically. Sucky day + stress + being edgy from lack of sleep/sex/food/beer/good weather/money/peace&quiet/whatever + forum-post read the wrong way or written the wrong way = mental Kaboomery. Many, myself included, aren't always on-topic and constructive when posting stuff, and sometimes we push the envelope too hard. Sometimes we also fire off broadsides randomly because we're angry. For that we get a slap over the hands, or in some cases: a boot to the head (aka ban). Unfair? That depends on the point of view. In the end, what we as users of this forum actually feel about getting banned/having other people getting banned/general rules/forum moderation is, quite frankly, irrelevant. The mods/owners make the rules, and when we signed up we accepted the terms of use and thus also the rules as they are. The general feel of the forum has lately become, at least to me, more hostile and on-edge. People have strong opinions about how and what direction both LO:FC and BS should take, which doesn't always coincide with what other members, or the devs/mods feel. Thus triggering angry responses and in some cases flaming. Even though we don't NEED to do this, we sometimes do because of frustration. And get banned for it. Sometimes with reason, sometimes without (to us, that is). My point is pretty much this (I'm long-winded, I know. Someone tell me to shut the hell up): That we get banned/get warnings is our own damn fault, and there's not much to do about it than to step away from the computer when/if anger/frustration grow to uncontrollable proportions. Nothing good will come of it. Bitching about it is about as useful, as I've said earlier, as taking a piss in your pants in the dead of winter to keep warm. Those things that are less important to 90% of the people that fly are quite possibly the 90% of the things that will allow ED to give out patches/new software. If you were the Boss who has to answer to the shareholders, what would you pick? Spending money you don't neccesarily have, or making money? Besides, are you so sure of how easy it is to fix these issues?

  25. I am all for ED getting on with a "2nd generation" (my term) architecture and giving us a whole new ballgame. The way I see it, the whole combat sim genre is teetering on the edge of an era. For years it's been F4 or Lockon if you were serious into modern-ish fast jets. They have both been modded to the gills (F4 more obviously due to the source leak) and have reached their limitations. Supposedly LP is working on a "2nd gen" sim, but no word...nothing...nada, and they didn't even create F4. With ED however, we are at least getting sent out with the big bang of what appears to be awesome content to carry us for a long while to come. We already enjoy a product they made, we know they have outside business too, so IMHO we have every reason (short of the planet's destruction or other unforeseen events... alien invasion and what have you) to expect they will stay in business and we will get something else we will enjoy. all you have to do is live that long and hope they don't go into strictly governmental work. :D Or you can wait for the "duke nuke 'em" of combat sims: Fighter Ops! Also don't forget Jet Thunder is on the horizon as well! Face it it's a niche genre. We won't get even a title a year. So do your best to stay alive, and hope for the best.
