I wanted to make a post about a subject of the flight sims and the TrackIR product. I was flying this evening on Flaming-Cliff server ( 169th ) and after some fun missions with the Su-25T .. Well the funny thing is that i was going to just do some training aerobatics with the Su-25 ( AFM ) when i just tagged along with some other 25's, i asked if the virtual pilots around me had this cool product that i enjoy since the early time of the TrackIR-2 and many other do as well. All the pilots were flying with out it.... i was quite surprised ! many of the guys really couldn't afford to get it and they all wished to have one. Flying with a TrackIR is definitely a much better flight experience and i couldn't fly with out it now . So since many pilots had the TrackIR3 ( with or with out vector ) and went to the newer version 4, why not give the opportunity for our friends to have the same fun with your older version 3 of the TrackIR. What do you think if you could sale for cheap or just make the future Trackir owner pay for shipping, Trade, Donate, Exchange anything would be great for many members virtual pilots. Please add to this post your ideas, opinions and ... which model you can give/sell(cheap ) here. It's almost 2009 and Xmas is not too far back.. For addresses and deals keep it on pm's .. Thank you greatly S~ Moderator please move this post where you think it should go .. maybe a sticky for a week ? ;)4 points

I saw some interesting stuff online about using the WiiMote as an IR tracker and decided to put something together for these wonderful clickable cockpits. Using an old golf glove, I attached an IR LED, battery and switch to enable my LCD monitor to act like a touch screen. Wasn't to hopeful at first, but in the end it actually works, and works very well! Here's a quick video of this little gadget, dubbed the "Power Glove" (originality is not what I get paid for), at work in Black Shark. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLkfx6QxLfg1 point

Yes the lean to the right is normal. It's a problem of having two blades spinning in the opposite direction. The advancing blade has to flap up to reduce the angel of attack, while the retreating blade has to flap down to reduce the angle of attack. They do this because the advancing blade is producing more lift given it's extra speed in forward flight. Now why do they do this? Because if they didn't the aircraft would constantly bank towards the retreating blade (like a plane with one wing producing less lift than the other). It's called "Flapping to equality". The faster you go the more they have to flap to equality. Now add another blade ging the other way and you have problem, The bottom blade goes up, and the top blade goes down. Simply keep from exceeding VNE (the warning light and alarm that comes on just before you have a mid air collision with yourself) and do not use the controls to their full extent, enter all movements smoothly, and when travelling at high speeds be careful of how much collective you use.1 point

We've already got this kinda thread in ru part http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=27252&highlight=%CA%E0+50+%E6%E8%E7%ED%E8 Summing all what was told by ED we can say it's 24,25, 26 model, without new warning system instruments Here it is http://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=1161530&WxsIERv=Xnzbi%20Xn-50&Wm=0&WdsYXMg=Ehffvn%20-%20Nve%20Sbepr&QtODMg=Haxabja&ERDLTkt=Ehffvn&ktODMp=Frcgrzore%2016%2C%202006&BP=0&WNEb25u=Zryvubi%20Nyrknaqre%20-%20Ehffvna%20NivnCubgb%20Grnz&xsIERvdWdsY=24%20LRYYBJ&MgTUQtODMgKE=&YXMgTUQtODMgKERD=58295&NEb25uZWxs=2007-01-08%2022%3A33%3A01&ODJ9dvCE=&O89Dcjdg=&static=yes&width=1200&height=812&sok=JURER%20%20(nvepensg%20%3D%20%27Xnzbi%20Xn-50%27)%20%20beqre%20ol%20cubgb_vq%20QRFP&photo_nr=7&prev_id=1249268&next_id=1151987&size=L1 point

We're all speaking about realism and our intention is clear - bring this game as close to RL as possible. No doubt you should hold throttle in auto position when your flight is simple from point A to point B. Agree that you can avoid using throttle when you lands and the situation is safe enough. But what will you do when there's close combat or you know that lots of stinger stuff can be near your base. When you flares are out but you should complete your mission? Speaking about realism don't forget that Ka is combat helo. Remember how our planes and helos were landing in Afghanistan war. The "leaf" thechnic was widely spreaded right there.1 point

In a FBW system, the controls in the cockpit are not mechanically linked to the control surfaces. All inputs to the controls go to a controlling computer, which interprets and translates and send signals to the control surfaces. The Ka-50's flight controls are directly (mechanically) linked to the servos that control the rotors, so it it absolutely not FBW. The autopilot is ALSO connected to the servos, but only has 20% authority. In an FBW system, the computer has 100% authority, as there is no mechanical connection from the flight controls to the servos/control surfaces.1 point

So... the moving company came to pack my house up. Moving cross country. I had to decide what was going to stay with me and the family for the trip (driving). Normally would have said pack everything. They wouldn't take the wife or the dog b/c they aren't authorized to move "life". I couldn't part with the PC though. So the desk, PC, X52, Pedals, etc. are staying with me. They'll find room in the truck. My wife would like to say... thanks ED. She now will share her seat, for the 4 day ordeal, with my rig.1 point

Mostly various insurgents causing trouble there nowadays. In addition to South Ossettia, you've also got Abkhazia and Adjaria, all regions that have tried to gain independence. There are some more troublespots just outside the map modelled in DCS, but who's to say some of them might not spread in a hypotetical campaign :) Russian troublespot Chechnya is just to the north east of the map in DCS. Nagorniy-Kharabakh is just to the East, and not too far to the west you have Moldova where a Soviet army refused to leave and claimed independence after the USSR collapsed. And on the Turkish side you've got Turks vs. Kurdish conflict. ACIG has some quite indepth analysis of most of these conflicts, particulary the airwar part of it, so go read about it at http://www.acig.org/artman/publish/cat_index_12.shtml Here's a map of the regions which have tried to gain independence from Georgia, and you can also see Chechnya in the top right:1 point

I've noticed a few posts of people asking for a DVD sleeve and since I needed some diversion from training and crashing I made this for those interested. :) It's A4 proportioned and at the moment it comes in at 200 dpi. I don't actually have a printer myself yet so if there are issues let met know. (Edit: updated label for lightscribe users)1 point

using the method Airway has explained i have made an English .pdf of the training missions text. it is 52 pages. this is the text that appears in the upper-right hand corner of the screen during the training missions. you will find a few places where ? question marks will appear in the text. these are in place of the Cyrillic letters that should be there. Yes there is. Under "Options" -> "Gameplay" you will find the option "Use these options for any mission" Tick this one and be sure that "Easy Flight" is disabled on the same page too. So you will always use the simulation commands setup.1 point

Okay, I've now written a wiki page on how to use this script for an alternative way of trimming in Black Shark using CH gear. The wiki shows the steps required to get the script running with a blank map. http://vaaf.net/wiki2/index.php5?title=CH_HOTAS_hardware_trim PS: I've just added a new profile with a more sophisticated set of trimming equations to the wiki. These get around the loss of range that occurs with the simple offset type trimming that I've posted here.1 point

Alright, just in time for the holidays... http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&cid=159&lid=1275&title=Ka-50%20Canadian%20Forces%20Livery#dldetails Only tested with the Russian verison. I haven't tested any of this yet with the english verison, I'm just finally getting around to downloading it today. You may need to play around with some of the cfg files to get it to work. I'll release an English version when I've had a chance to test it out. Thanks for your patience everyone! Enjoy!1 point

an IR LED is what you want ideally. Yours is probably working but because it is only visible in the IR spectrum no visible light will show, but the wiimote will pick it up. If you have a trck IR unit try putting it infront of it and see if it picks it up, it should. SD1 point

What did you use for the batteries? I mean, you obviously didnt solder on to them right? :P Can we get some pics of individual components you used in your setup. I have no idea what the switch looks like and the dicksmith electronics have no idea about a tact switch...1 point
