I dont know why you are having problems hosting a server Ali Fish, I have No Trouble doing so and have done so on XP, Vista 32, Vista 64 and Windows 7 64bit Are you sure a firewall setting isnt stopping you from hosting ? As far as I am awar Ali, their is no bug that stops people from hosting, if their was I wouldnt be able to host and I wouldnt be able to join servers that are being hosted. I would Look at your OS, your router or modem if you have one and software firewalls. all that needs to be opened is port 10308 and open it in both udp and tcp and unblock ping or disable stealth mode in your router and you should have no problems. When I host I have ping blocked and stealth mode on, so nobody can ping me and yet my buddies can STILL join my server by manually typing in my ip and port, but to rule out any problems you should disable those router features if you have a router. To rule out your router 100%, put your pc into a DMZ on your router and that will rule out your router/modem as being the cause, then you can start looking at either a bug in the OS or software firewalls. The only bug I know of is the one where ports seems to change but if you know your IP and you forward port 10308 and disable block ping and stealth mode and tell your friends your IP so that they can join your server by manually typing in your ip ingame then they really should have no problems connecting, so long as its set to INTERNET and not Lan. If you want I would be willing to sit with ya on some chat program whether that be MSN or skype or teamspeak etc and try and help you get it setup, because I am sure its just a tiny overlooked problem at your end thats causing you to not be able to host for 7 months. Worst case scenario would be to format windows and try with a fresh OS, that would be a very last resort, but I am confident that its either a router/modem problem, game settings not being correct or windows firewall or another firewall blocking your connection.2 points

might it be possible to suggest that Black Shark was clearly released too early without the "EDFORUM" fanboys taking offence !!!!! and released possibly in a worse state than anything pertaining to this general concensus you have regards other game and there fan boy followings leading to immediate post patches (rediculous assumption) however.. for a patch to take what must be 7 months now to complete. that tells me (and considering some MP code is being re written) that BS was infact released in a non satisfactory state.<watch the fanboys jump on me now> working yes. you state there is nothing majorlly wrong with the release state of DCSBS. i bloody well disagree. For 7 months ive been trying to host a bloody server without success. ive asked all the questions necessary on the forum with no Direct answers other than its a bug. In light of this i am trully sick of 1. The ED fanboys defence of the software that for me doesnt work. 2. Waiting for the patch whilst being subject to the crap i hear in this place. 3. sick of "whoever" adding a month onto the Patch ETA.(just tell me/them "it'll be done when its done in future please) 4. the belief that ED are some perfect group of developers. the talk of release of games with immediate patches is a good thing in relation to waiting 7 months for what i want. dont reverse your psychology with me please. incidentally through my 15 years gaming i have never experienced more of this "fanboy" behaviours than in this very forum. Granted you fanboys may have more common sense and are able to project your thoughts at a mature level. none the less iam serious when i state that i havnt experienced as heavy faboyish behaviours anywhere but in here.2 points

Well, these kind of things happen. They have no easy task ahead and have set lots of goals for a smaller developer. It Is very nice to get updates at least to know progress. I just wish they were working on NONE of this stuff and instead were working on DCS:Su-27 :)2 points

Now is this the aforementioned bug or is it something I am doing? At random points in time during a mission my mouse will automatically switch to mouselook and the only way to clear it is to switch to an external view. However, it seems that on servers with no externals the problem becomes amplified and occurs more frequently, in this instance the only way to clear this is to switch to F10 map view, if it's allowed. This happens in both SP and MP. Is there something I can change in the LUAs to stop this from happening or do I need to wait for the patch?1 point

well thanks for the posts offering help to me. thanks. i understand this post i make now isnt realyl on topic, but given the responses earlier i will post what my issue is that troubles me so.. & i appologise for my outlandish remarks earlier. especially upon ED. Just a frustrated person here. It was around 3 hours worth earlier i thought i'd have another stab at hosting that resulted in my remarks earlier. "i couldnt get these comments about BS not needing a patch out my head"... and then i let my attitude suck.. sorry to all offended. my problem hosting issue is the random assigment of port numbers !!! A different one everytime i open a new port both via windows firewall and my router firewall. i have even tried disabling both too.. so i host, leave and spot my ip in the server list containing no info and using some ramdom port number. i have posted in the multiplayer forum area along with my friend vekiq (same problem as me). i have flown online many times with vek by joining via IP connection only. and also via using hamachi and setting the BS connection to "LAN". its very lonely there via those methods. If i could actually meet new folks and entertain as a host id have a much better expereince in DCS:BS. it is the most wonderfull flightsim.1 point

I remember threads like this on frugals forum about Falcon AF. And they release 12 or 13 patchs. Was always the same thing, when they delay the releases. :music_whistling: This is the well-known patch feber. No worrys. Edit: actually its a good sign :thumbup:1 point

This is roughly how it went: FORUM: When's the patch coming? ED: We really don't want to set a date. You know, things happen. We don't want to disappoint you with promises until we are dead certain. FORUM: Aaaawh... But come on! Just estimate! Pleeeeeease? ED: Well... bah, allright. Roughly in a month or two, if everything works out allright. ... [Month or two passes] ... FORUM: ED! Where the **** is the patch? ED: Unfortunately, it was delayed because of X. FORUM: You bloody amateurs! You promised you'd release it this month and you failed! ED: Fortunately we have a PR department, who have barred me from accessing the internet while there is a risk of me commenting on that. I suspect everyone can see the stupidity in how that went down... Oh, and last line in the "exchange" has a bit of poetic license to it, but I'll let you know that if I was working for ED that's what the PR department would have to do to keep me from making a fool of myself. :P1 point

"we are working" sentence can mean that their brains "are working". Not working as doing code corrections but simple thinking. Thinking also mean working cos you think about it so begun work even when you don't do anything except think :D1 point

Funny thing is, when Black Shark got delayed a couple of times, many people got extremely dissapointed and (obviously) someone whined about it. But when they finally got their hands on Black Shark, they went "Man, thank you so much for releasing such a polished product!:D". So again, regarding this patch/update, it WILL be worth the wait :)1 point

Completely agreed. And it is rather tragic that when I read the update posted by Wags I knew immediately that I'd be seeing some "interesting" comments in a thread like this. Have people grown so used to the release-patch-patch-patch-patch-... ... cycle endemic to the present gaming industry that anyone that doesn't release frequent patches is obviously asleep at work. As opposed to the ones that release unfinished products being asleep at work - or, which is often the case, tied to paperpushers at massive publishing houses that don't know that sometimes it takes a good bit of time to ensure that a complex software application is working properly. I realize that some people have had some issues with DCS:BS - I frequent the problems and bugs section enough to have a pretty good picture of the problems that crop up. But compare that to most contemporary PC releases - here most of the problems (some exceptions) that are given threads could actually have been solved through a simple search. I've only been stumped about twice over there for solutions to a problem - and I am not a programmer, and I do not have any knowledge of the internals of the sim beyond some lua stuff. Someone with my solely user-level experience being able to factfind, troubleshoot and offer solutions to such a high majority of problems is an extremely good record for any contemporary software product beyond Minesweeper. My experience for most other game related forums I've frequented has been quite different. I fully agree with what EvilBivol-1 said about the general consensus as he (and I) have understood it: this game doesn't "need" a patch. It has problems that would be nice to have patched and I am very grateful to ED for taking the time to do that. But to see people put forth the fact that by now most other developers would have put out at least 5 patches as an argument against ED in this matter is just plain tragic. Some of the arguments I've seen is akin to saying that a particular automobile is crap because it's never been to the workshop for repairs...1 point

3d sounds will be ...difficult. I dont know much about sound, but I have figured out how to do some basic audio processing, like adding reverb, modifying gain, storing sound as byte[] arrays, so in principle we could do some processing on it... But...Hehe, for this first TEWS thing its just wave file playback. Very simple ;) I am very disappointed with how much memory the JVM eats and how much memory my mini gui uses =/, but at least CPU usage is low, and the app is multithreaded to allow dynamic amount of simultaneous audio playback threads.. So far I am using falcon4 sounds and my setup looks something like this: The controls are real time, except for Host and Port - Those fields must be set before you hit Start (but the Start button turns into a Stop button when it is running, so you can always restart and try new connection settings. ) For data export I am using : http://yoda.reservoirselite.com/rwr/TEWS.lua (I actually just asked LRM to run this file during LuaExportStart) Oh if you wonder, the Dclt parameter is a declutter setting, just a maximum number of allowed simultaneous nails (you only get simultaneous nails if you are not hardspiked by any target). The playback threads are sorted by priority from the lockon lua rwr export. Don't complain on the GUI! This is the first line of gui I ever made outside matlab ^^1 point

Only flown the two missions so far and one things really stands out - the briefings. Definitely the best written and most enjoyable to read of any campaign/mission I've played. Really like the lone pilot/mercenary scenario - good mechanic, good atmosphere. I'll feedback more the further I get in.1 point

Alexduke, given the general feedback on this and other forums, I think it's fair to say that your opionion is not representative of the majority of Black Shark players. By far, the feedback has been that the product is one of the most polished releases in recent memory. By most accounts, it is not in any immediate need of a patch at all, eventhough one would certainly be appreciated. This is not to say the product is perfect, but that your assesment of it is acutely negative and unrepresentative of what we have seen from most other users. I understand it's your opinion and you are entitled to have it, but it is not an opinion that is objectively fair. I'm sorry that you find the simulation "unplayable" in it's current state, but I'm quite sure the vast majority of players would disagree with this assesment and would in fact state the direct opposite. To all, delays will happen and plans will change. It's the nature of the beast, at least in so far as ED's business plans. At any given time, ED is working on a number of projects and resources are shifted according to needs. Long time forum members should by now be familiar with this reality, unpleasent as it may be. In the end, we are all striving for the same goal - realistic combat flight simulation. One step at a time. P.S. Also want to remind you that ED does not usually provide any release date estimates. We might post a "hopefully..." approximation, but it is YOU who then translates that as a release date and then blames US when it slips. If we wanted to give release dates, we would give release dates. We don't, because we know they are not reliable. You should know this, too.1 point

Good Question! I agree that the Mission Editor in a Multiplayer environment has ripped the Heart and Soul out of many an attempt to build a decently operative MP Mission........apart from that, what is so vitally important that cannot wait a coupla months? I cannot assume that we have all mastered the Whirly-Bird to such an extent that we can call ourselves 'competent' in all aspects of piloting the Kamov - surely not! Use the time wisely and get to master the Helo rather than berating the Dev's for having the 'audacity' to postpone a release for 45 days.......:huh:1 point

Не надо кричать, цвет в коде игры (не меняется). И повторения бардака с ИЛСами как в ЛО не будет. Для повышения видимости индикации ИЛС на светлом фоне есть поднимаемый щиток-светофильтр. Согласен, видимости объектам вне кокпита он не прибавляет, но такова жизнь. И еще добавлю, что претензии абсолютно необоснованы (разве что для вида без кокпита) и ИЛС на светлом фоне должен читаться еще хуже (для вида С кабиной).1 point

I have to admit I am very sceptical about expected 9 months intervals between DCS modules... at the rate Black Shark is going with sequential releases first with russian, then english DL then international CD then manual, then patch... seems many stages for complete release of single module... makes me think even 1 year between modules is not very likely :( But what can you do... for something good you just need to wait... everyone get back to work :D1 point

But I undersstand one thing: I paid for a product. It is not finished. Software developement today is: Releasing an unfinished product, then fixing it.(hopefully) And this is the way it goes for every kind of software.....damm I-net. Before 15 years that couldn't work for any developer. It is not only ED. It is every developer. This makes me dissapointed...no... this makes me angry. Because EVERYONE is going this way! You're talking about patches or update about patches? I hope you mean the last one, otherwise say good bye to our money... And now I'm out till August or whenever the patch is coming....it makes me tired...really tired....bad paying customers..what the hell are they thinking about wanna having a bug free and finish product, tztztz:mad:1 point

очень запоздалые вопросы про патч , собсвенно всё это нужно было размещать в теме "пожелания к патчу" (раньше такая тема была , счяс ненашол) вопчем будут ли доступны следующие возможности по выставлению принудительных настроек сервера по внешним видам? Сразу оговорюсь что признаю сервера ТОЛЬКО с ВВ(внешние виды) ,да и в сети сейчас только такие и робят ,ибо очень приятсвенно разглядывать однополчан за работой ,а полёты в закрытом кокпите (с отключенными ВВ)для меня сродни полётом в ОФФ ибо както притупляется ощущение общего шабаша (сие ИМХО и протесты асов мазохистов по отключении ВВ идут в сад ,повторюсь выйдите в ОН и посмотрите спрос (напоняемость) насерверов с ВВ) Вопщем вот наболевшее: 1)можно ли будет принудительно отменить фишку с клавишей ф5 (по умолч забито вроде вид на своего ,но лочит практически все кравты,тоесть на сегодняшний день циклически перебирая виды и приближая коны можно увидеть практически всех врагов и разглядеть у кого собсвенно какие намерениЯ .... (тоесть удаление данной фичи при сохраненииВВ) ,в ИЛ2 такого нет вообше ибо брэд, там кнопка вид на БЛИЖАЙШЕГО противника (и то если он от тебя в километре) и кнопка кравты врага внешний вид -по ним конечно умельцы вычесляют расположение но это дико гиморно ,надо привязывать ВВ противника к ланшавту и искать ланшавт на карте планшетке(сори за сравнение с ИЛом) 2) можно ли будет принудительно выставлять метки отдельно на наземку и отдельно на воздух. Причем хотелось бы принудительно (как в ил2) ставить ярлыки по разбивке отображаемой информации (тоесть например ярлык а)метка соотв цвета, б) метка соотв цвета+ название обьекта ,в)метк+назв +дист ....Вот эта фиче как воздух нужна на моём сервере (запускаю кажд вечер) - сервер с возможностью захвата наземных точек с последующим появлением наземки .Очень рад был когда нашол тут на форуме луа файлик для замены меток на обычные точки ,тоесть вся наземка была подсвеченна зелёной точкой ,единсвенное я его переделал на цветовую метку для каждой стороны(син, кр) и точку сменил на тире (ибо точка выгледит ка битый пиксель,что както поднапрегает),но юзается эта ценная фича только в ОФФ .... 3)можно ли будет принудительно более расширенно выставлять опции Ф10 ,летал на серверах с отключёнными ВВ но с включёнными видами в Ф10,тупо открываеш карту(Ф10) смотриш наземку врага и собсвоенно самого врага,встаёш на курс и шариш шквалом по запомненному ланшавту ...:lol::lol: 4)возможно ли убрать выставленную в редакторе технику с АБРИСа аппонента ? тоесть бох с ними зонами поражения(накрытия) ,хотя и поним можно выщитать центр зоны,но сам обьект стоит на абрисе как на ладони и навести на него спицу по абрису ...попахивает мего аркадно.... вопчем пока всё1 point

US Army helicopter doctrine was to fly nap-of-the-earth, right in amongst the trees. They don't do it in Iraq or Afganistan, that's not what works best there. But for the European theatre it's been part of their doctrine for a long time to fly right amongst the trees. Have a look at http://www.realmilitaryflix.com/public/536.cfm?sd=71 which is a army training video from the 70s. There's lots of footage of helicopters flying in among the trees. And it's a great film to watch in any case, as it has some interesting information about anti-tank helicopter tactics :) But also note that for the most part they are flying slowly when doing so, not racing around at 100+ kts.1 point

Thanks Yo-Yo. Panzertard: I think you're getting confused. An Out of Ground Effect hover at 4,000m would represent a hover at an altitude (i.e. above mean sea level) of 4,000m. So this ceiling represents the highest altitude that the Ka-50 can hover while being outside of the effects of ground effect. In Ground Effect hover ceilings are generally higher. The reason being that you may well be at an altitude (i.e. above mean sea level) of 4,500m but your height (i.e. above ground level) could be 2m - or close enough to the ground for the helicopter to be in ground effect where it can still maintain a hover relative to the reduced density of the air because of your overall altitude. Whereas without the aided benefit of ground effect helping to increase the lift/decrease the power required to maintain a hover the craft runs out of available power at 4,000m. And yes potentially if you are operating in mountainous regions and mountain FARPS, like those modelled in Black Shark, then an AGL height of 0m can be some 3,000m ASL. So for example if you are at an altitude of 4,500m you could expect to be able to hover while maintaing a height low enough for ground effect, but you would not expect to be able to do hover outside of ground effect. So, basically Panzer the way to think of it is that ground effect is affected only by height above ground level and is irrelevant to your altitude above mean sea level (within reason!).1 point
